it'd been a month since penelope had begun her path to self-improvement. from her runs with MATIAS SILPH, to her practice battles with Melody Miro and Callan Young, there had been progress made. not only were her senses sharpening, so were her Pokémon's', who now sought to discover answers without waiting for a call from their trainer.

it was exciting. it was new. and, more than anything else, penelope wanted to try these learnt skills in a proper battle.

which brought them here, along the outskirts of fallabor town, after obscuring a tip from her intelligence team. supposedly, a low-grade smuggling deal was to take place. so low-grade, the league was looking to ignore it, in favor of spending their resources elsewhere. they would've gone through with that decision had not been for Penelope's persistence in sending someone to check it out.

the same someone penelope was now forcibly accompanying.

the mission started out as any standard busting would: the two first scouted the area for any lingering grunts, taking care of whoever they came across (through discreet means), then they used the dim windows to peer inside the warehouse.

it was dark -- too dark to see anything properly -- but the more they looked inside, the more they gained an understanding of the building's layout. from the cracked windows to the slanted stacks of cargo, there was a path to which they could eel through without detection. and that was exactly what they did.
[break][break]

from there, everything fell into place. they both waited for the perfect time to strike, and during that golden hour, the two quickly took down the remaining grunts, with penelope being able to handle most of them on her own and without the assistance of her coworker.

"okay! that was easy," she sighed, finishing off the last of them herself. her partner had already begun rummaging through the grunts' items and loose documents. "let's finish up quick. don't want to stick around for too long."

The alert on his phone surprised him. Rocket rarely pinged him out of the blue. Then again, he was working a different rank now. The notice is just coordinates, and Mint squints. He's close enough to Fallarbor. But the warehouse? There's a pause before he hurries to fix a quick disguise. Luckily, he's done the same thing so many times he was pretty quick at getting in and out of cover. [break][break]

"Moving in ETA 2 minutes!" he shouts as his phone, swapping to a comms unit in his ear. If they've infiltrated, there's no point in moving through the front. Back door it is. "Neon, at back exit C, running in." His hand is already on his waist as he plucks a a pokeball. He doesn't stop when he spots jayden cross eyes on the intruder. The pokeball is thrown, releasing a green Nidoqueen. [break][break]

"Torti, cover me!" is the only order he gives as he tries to slide tackle PENELOPE LIVY, ignoring whatever dramatic standoff she may be having with her boss- er colleague? Friend. The Nidoqueen's eyes are set on the Blaziken already rushing forth to cut between pokemon and trainer with a wild EARTH POWER. [break][break][break][break]

He looked familiar, like a faded piece of a nightmare forgotten long ago. Nerves pricked her skin, sending a sharp jolt through her. She had to wake up.

"Thanks babe."

The crafty shield offered just enough space for Blaziken to focus his attention onto the sliding rocket. With a high FLAME KICK, the fire type ensued a torrent of flames around them, dividing the two individual pairs of fighters. It was with this conquered space she felt safe enough to take a step back. Her eyes anxiously flicked from CIAN MAHER, back to the rockets.

Regardless of the uncertainties that fell upon their relationship, Penelope Livy knew one thing for sure: she'd rather let the world sputter out in a burst of flames before anyone, especially a rocket, hurts Cian.
