Haina Desert - Pokemon Sun & Moon

A VAST DESERT LANDSCAPE dotted with rocky structures and monoliths. Curiously, they almost seem humanmade, though there are no signs of people here. Shrubbery and turquoise crystals are encrusted throughout the bright and sweltering dryland. Occasionally, you may stumble upon rocky terrain that is difficult to traverse.[break][break]

Mysterious obelisks with missing seals are situated throughout the desert. No one knows why they exist, or who made them.

he wears a scarf of his own, eyes cast more downwards than anything else as the harsh wind buffets them. to his left, his mutated avalugg grunts beneath the monotonous effort of maintaining its EARTH POWER. the dual-type's will kept the worst of the sandstorm at bay, but not everything.

luckily it's ice-typing exuded a fair amount of cold, counteracting as much of this SWELTERING HEAT as it could.

from the bag around his waist he pulls out a circular disk. the SEAL is rather plain - a mud-brown colored disk, flat and with barely any weight to it. the surface of the disk once held an image, though it was long since lost to the sands of times.

neither Greyson Connors nor LANCE VOLLANS acknowledge aaron's second question which is kind of worrying since they're balls deep in a sandstorm. thankfully, the storm begins to weaken the further they trudge along. in the distance, he begins to make out tall shapes that he assumes to be related to the obelisks his roommate is talking about. not that he really knows what an obelisk is.[break][break]
"yeah, sure, fuck it." [break][break]splitting up sounds like a shit idea in a hostile world like this, but he's not going to cling to greyson's side the whole excursion if his groupmates are going to be tough guys and strike out on their own. it'd be the antithesis of cool if he argued against it. with his hands on his hips, he peers up to watch the blocks that make up the obelisk begin to shuffle. it reminds him of a rubik's cube except in tower form.[break][break]

noticing the sand beneath them starting to shift as well, he takes a step back, urging for Greyson Connors to do the same. it drops to reveal a cavern labyrinth, but before they have time to investigate, he hears aaron faust's faint cry for help.[break][break]

"shit. i think faust is in trouble."[break][break]

quicksand itself was not inherently dangerous. it was the actions of the person while they were inside that could turn a situation deadly. then he hears aaron faust's scream, and he can't help but release a very, very long sigh.

his avalugg marches along with him, and soon enough they're mere feet from the sinking trainer.

"stop struggling so much. the more you move, the faster you sink. you're flailing like a remoraid out of water."

he gives it a few seconds, before placing a hand on the flat of avalugg's back. it grumbles, a sound like churning earth, but it embrace it's EARTH POWER to slowly release aaron from its grip.

by the time Greyson Connors finds him, aaron has sunk even lower into the sand. he feels a little vindicated down here, like all his fears of quicksand from watching cartoons growing up have finally been validated. even in this unfortunate predicament, he narrows his eyes at his soon-to-be savior.

the sand shifts as the avalugg uses earth power, slowly pushing him up and out onto more solid ground. aaron lets out a sigh of relief — about as close to a "thank you" as greyson will get — and stands up with extra care to where he puts his feet.

"this shit looks like a skyrim dungeon," his voice floats over Greyson Connors 's and LANCE VOLLANS 's shoulders as he finally catches up. he's ready to get the fuck out of the storm and away from any more quicksand, so he brushes past greyson to enter the cavern first.

🗺️ the "DESERT SEAL: GRAND DOOR" can be slotted into an obelisk temporarily, causing the obelisk to shuffle blocks in its structure like a rubik's tower. when the blocks still, the sands surrounding the obelisk will begin plunging into a cavern labyrinth below. there, old temple-like structures (e.g. pillars, arches) can be found and a large golden ring pressed upon the wall.

"thanks bro," aaron says in passing to LANCE VOLLANS as they enter the labyrinth. it quickly meets its disappointing end in a room with a big ass ring on the wall. he walks around the room, trying to find some secret something to make this place worthwhile.

the ground rumbles. he looks over his shoulder and sees Greyson Connors 's hand stretched out toward the ring. [break][break]"are you fucking stupid? why the actual fuck would you touch it?"

pokemon begin to swell out from the cracks and crevices within the walls. aaron kicks one that gets too close. his pikachu jumps down from his shoulder and zaps another with a thunderbolt.

he starts looking around but in the end, it's his dugtrio that ends up finding the lever. it bumps into it with one of its bodies, opening up a passageway off to the corner of the room.[break][break]
