Like a Pyroar restlessly stalking her den, she turned on her heel, finding interest in the arrangement of blossoms nearest to the window. Dappled in sunlight, the crimson roses seemed all the lovelier in their dark red hue.[break][break]

One polite falsity beget another: "I'll endeavor to make do without your scintillating company. Be well, Councilwoman."[break][break]

When the door shuddered closed behind the departing woman, Elisabeth's hands once more found purpose in the twining of thorned stems into rose-studded wreaths. Her previously calm, unbothered expression shifted the longer she stared at the sanguine flowers in her hand, eyes narrowing as her lips tightened into a thin line.[break][break]

Serenity, was it?[break][break]

Outside, the buzzing of insects in the Petalburg Woods hummed loudly, almost maddeningly so. The heat had begun to become a stifling, bothersome thing. The flowers in her garden had been wilting more than they should, this time of year. Droughts, she suspected, or something like it had made it more difficult to flourish this season.[break][break]

"What am I doing," she murmured to herself, a hand resting on her forehead. Whatever it was, 'peace' seemed far from it. A terrible headache took hold of her, ringing in her ears.[break][break]

"How much longer can this façade last?"

"She'll figure out the truth sooner or later. All of them will."

A sudden gust of wind startled a nearby window open, and Elisabeth blinked towards it, startled out of the darkness of her thoughts. When she closed it, two pinpricks of ochre light winked out in the distance -- watching her.[break][break]

An easily forgotten thing, that. Inconsequential.[break][break]

And certainly nothing that suggested of the tie between her and PENELOPE LIVY as of yet to come.
