Gentle music played throughout the room as water reflected around them. Summer looked around in awe, underneath the glass as creatures swam above her head. Different types of fish, shark Pokemon, even mammalian species.[break][break]

She'd never gone to an aquarium before. Everything was brand new and fascinating.[break][break]

Even if she felt queasy since she got up that morning. But she didn't want Gunner Graves to worry. It was probably something she ate, after all. She wouldn't pass up time with him for something like that.[break][break]

When Gunner learned that Summer had never visited an aquarium before, he immediately bought them two tickets to the Oceanic Museum in Slateport City. Seeing the exhibits was the next best thing to traveling to Alola to swim with the marine Pokémon, and it was easier to do with his budget.[break][break]

They had plans to grab lunch at the café, then watch the Primarina show at one o'clock. But there was still time to kill until then, so they were leisurely making their way through some of the halls.[break][break]

"Yeah!" he exclaimed, grinning, looking very much like a kid as he gazed up into the glass. He pointed at something else in the tank. "And look at that Dewgong! I didn't realize how big they were."

Summer looked at him as he watched the marine animals, unable to help the smile on her lips as his features lit up. He was really cute when he looked so carefree, like nothing was holding him down.[break][break]

She wanted to protect that smile.[break][break]

"If you ever want to see one up close, I have one of my own. I'm just not as skilled wielding water-types as I am with fire," she said with an almost embarrassed chuckle.[break][break]

"But she's a gentle soul."[break][break]

She wondered if her hand was too clammy in his.

Gunner graced Summer with the same smile. "Maybe this summer we could take another beach trip and let out our Water Pokémon so they can play together. I have a Wailord, but she doesn't often get a chance to play because of her size."[break][break]

And, truth be told, Gunner's job prevented him from frequent trips to the beach just so she could swim.[break][break]

He began to lead Summer down the hall at a relaxed pace, unaware of how uneasy she felt. They passed a few more tanks with other Water-types before arriving at a gift shop. The goods were often overpriced, but they were unique to the aquarium.[break][break]

"Hey, do you want to buy anything to commemorate your first visit?" he asked, gesturing with his other hand to the shop.

The speed by which Summer departed both startled and confused Gunner. Was something wrong? "Summer?" he called out after her. Then, unwilling to simply wait, he followed after her, pausing only when he realized she'd run into the women's restroom.[break][break]

Of course, he couldn't enter. So he simply waited some distance away, hands in his pockets, attempting not to look like a creep to any of the other ladies heading into the bathroom.[break][break]

Finally, when Summer reemerged, Gunner gave her a look of concern. "Are you okay?" he asked. Usually, people didn't run off like that, even to use the toilet. Was she sick?

It shouldn't be a surprise that he was waiting for her when she came out of the bathroom. But Summer still felt relief when she saw Gunner by the door, quiet as she decided to lean against him.[break][break]

Gods, her heart was still pounding after that feeling.[break][break]

"I'm okay now," she finally said, keeping her eyes closed as she spoke.[break][break]

Now that Gunner was aware something was wrong — or at least had been wrong — he could see that Summer looked more pale than usual. He pressed his hand against her forehead, checking for fever, but her temperature was normal.[break][break]

"Will you be okay eating lunch?" he asked, still not certain what exactly plagued her but hesitant to continue their date. "Or would you rather go home? You won't ruin today either way, I promise."[break][break]

A part of Gunner was disappointed at having to leave so soon, but Summer's health was more important. Still, he wondered why she didn't say anything earlier. He would've been happy enough to reschedule the date for another weekend.

So Summer was really that sick, huh? "Of course, darling."[break][break]

Gunner steered her toward the entrance of the Oceanic Museum. Thankfully, the building was designed with ease of navigating it in mind, so it didn't take long for them to step back out into the bright afternoon light.[break][break]

Her request to stop by a pharmacy made sense, too. Maybe she could get something over-the-counter that could ease her stomach. Gunner checked the map app on his phone and found a local pharmacy just a couple of blocks away. And luckily, it was on the way to his apartment.[break][break]

Still holding Summer's hand, he started off toward down the sidewalk. "You can rest up at my place until you're well enough to go home," he said. "We can watch a movie on the couch or something."[break][break]

He was going to make the most out of the day, one way or another.

The light made her head spin. Summer pushed through it, anxiety gnawing at her core as they made it to the pharmacy. She looked up at Gunner and offered a small smile.[break][break]

"As long as you stay in bed with me. I'll be right back."[break][break]

A few minutes later, she came out with a bag containing all she needed for the time being... as well as an electrolyte drink and water for later.[break][break]

"Here, I'll carry that for you," Gunner offered, hand extended to take the bag from Summer. If she insisted on carrying it herself, however, he would not insist. She was only a little sick, after all.[break][break]

They made their way back to his apartment, taking the Corviknight taxi at the nearest stop to his neighborhood. The flight was not long at all, and Gunner was unlocking the door to his residence within ten minutes.[break][break]

His Zoroark, Mordred, looked up as soon as they entered. The Pokémon had been lounging on the sofa, enjoying a light nap. The sound of their early arrival had stirred him from dreams, and he padded over to Gunner and Summer to greet them.[break][break]

Patting Mordred on the head, Gunner gestured for Summer to take the couch. "Go get comfy. In the meantime, can I get you anything?" he asked. His first instinct was a snack, but she'd turned down lunch for a reason.

Summer allowed him to carry the bag, though she hoped he didn't look inside it. She was relieved once they made it back to Gunner's place, seeing Mordred waiting for them.[break][break]

Ignoring her own illness for a moment, she let Hela out of her ball, allowing her own ZOROARK to greet Mordred with a happy, chirping noise.[break][break]

"I'm okay, thank you. I'm going to run to the bathroom first," she said, taking the bag and setting it to the side.[break][break]

In a few minutes, Summer was back, but she was holding something in her hand, her face red and her heart stammering. "Uh... Gunner?"

Gunner assumed the bag held some stomach medicine along with the electrolyte drink and water, so he had no reason to root around inside it. Despite being a spy — or perhaps because he was one — he understood people's need for privacy.[break][break]

So he handed the bag back to Summer as soon as they arrived in his apartment and nodded without question to her need to use the restroom again. If she was sick, it only made sense.[break][break]

While she was occupied, Gunner prepared a light lunch for himself in the kitchen: a toasted sandwich with ham, pepperoni, and salami, paired with thick slices of mozzarella cheese, lettuce, and sliced tomato. There were enough ingredients left over in case Summer felt well enough later to eat a meal, too.[break][break]

He was only a couple of bites into his sandwich when she returned from the bathroom. The deep flush of her face immediately told him something was wrong.[break][break]

"Summer? What is it?" Gunner asked, frowning. He put down his meal and rose from the kitchen table.
