A bird trains. His whole life, he has trained. He trained in the wilds, when he was truly free. He trained when he was draped in chains he could not see, corralled by walls meant to hold him in. What matter chains, what matter walls? All that matters is the blade in his hand.[break][break]

His life for this swing. His life for the quest. All he must do is follow the quest. When his new trainer leaves him at something the humans call a ‘daycare’, he neither cares nor pays attention. He falls into his routine. Across the verdant green of the plains behind the daycare, he swings his sword. There are mighty dragons in there with him. Them, too, he fights.[break][break]

Dratini fall. Gible fall. These princeling egg-hatched dragons are no match for a warrior. This nameless bird will emulate the examples of the knights of old. Though chivalry may well be dead, though knights forgotten, he will not forget what peace might be won by the strength of his blade.

Your loneliness won't do a child good. But that's all that's left for you in the end. Loneliness is what you need to embrace, because she can't always be there for you. Nobody can but yourself. So all those tears you shed, shed them, shed them and leave them behind. But don't look into that puddle and expect any answers to your loneliness cause they won't be found.[break][break]

The only thing in that puddle that's left is your reflection, and it's a sad thing. Pitiful.[break][break]

You dash it with your hand. You like the feel of that, the chaos that erupts all around. Like smashing a giant drum, you hit that puddle of stagnant water over and over, til it's little more than a puddle of muck. [break][break]

Rain starts to fall. The cloud collects above the daycare and it starts to drain down. Tears from the sky. A dirge for a tale far away. The bird knows that the heavens do not weep for him. He has done no great deeds. There is no victory that has proven cause for celebration.[break][break]
In the course of his training, he cuts down another Pokemon. A Larvitar. Like most of his kind, the Pokemon was a bully. He was making his way to another Pokemon down the path. She’s a little purple creature – one he has never seen before. She belongs to the protégé of the man calling himself the bird’s trainer. Kneeling by her, seeing her alone and solitary, he pats her on the back of the head.[break][break]
A small thing, a human gesture. Something to show solidarity with another caught out in the rain. It’s not always so bad.

A warrior’s instincts must always be keen. The act of compassion is met with disdain. He senses the attack as he feels the soft electricity spread across his body. It’s trapped inside of him now. Soft muscles lock up, threatening to stop completely within her attack trajectory, but the bird hasn’t been training for nothing.[break][break]
This creature has found excellent company in the woman who trains her. They’re just alike. The sort of people to see a reason to find cause for offense in a helping hand.[break][break]
Best to show her a different kind of compassion, then.[break][break]
His blade flicks across her head. It is blindingly swift. A blow he has practiced against the fastest monsters in the natural world. With this first impression, he has taken full-grown dragons by surprise. Stepping back, as if to ask, is that the best you have, he falls into a battle pose.[break][break]

It's such a difference that it takes you off guard, that leek lashed across the dome of your skull. You see stars, the likes of which you could only aspire to. It sends you away, dizzy. You grasp for your head with a Tearful Look. [break][break]

And then all the rage in your heart grips you. You hate that you were made to make that face. That you were made to cry from something as little as that. All the acid that pools in your veins bleeds through, drips from your forehead into the puddle of rain at your feet, sending electric pulses all around as you feel your anger grow.[break][break]

The bird wobbles to his feet. Thunder cries, but not for them. He shakes. Creatures start to gather around them, curiously watching the match. This little dragonslayer wanders into their home and now he’s being shown up by something like this. The Pokemon around them cry. Shriek, call for blood. They’re no different from the humans when the skin’s peeled away. The same desires for meaningless bloodshed.[break][break]
This little creature has never been loved. That’s what he gathers, watching her. Telling him to come fight. Holding his blade, he readies himself…[break][break]
…just to turn and walk away. He’s not the sort of person who would attack a creature like that.

Standing up for your dignity, your fighting spirit, the part of you that needs to be strong because you're only ever gonna go it alone in the end... you stand up on your own two legs for the first time, readying a charge of electricity in your fingertips as you take one staggering step forward...[break][break]

He sighs. This creature’s pride is wounded. She wants to attack him – she wants this fight.[break][break]
The problem I that they’re not alone. Others among the Pokemon watching have seen what he sees – that she is vulnerable, weak. She exudes static electricity, but that alone might not be enough to dissuade some predators. One of the dragons steps out of the herd – a gabite. Drool drips from its fangs. It wants to attack her. Kill her. Eat her.[break][break]
It’s like the black dragon resting at his trainer’s side. The creature roars and charges her down.[break][break]
Like a streak of light, he comes back towards her. Past her, until his sword is locked in place. It’s caught in the maws of the dragon. Weakened by static electricity, he falters. With her growl sapping his fighting spirit, his blows lack the power they need to deliver this battle to a decisive end.[break][break]
Yet still, he fights on. There’s nothing else to be done. Slipping onto a knee, he feels…[break][break]
He feels good. A streak of light encompasses him. Shrouds him. He stands tall and proud at its end, a golden warrior. He will not let it have her.
