Your Bus Ticket Has Expired...
POSTED ON May 19, 2023 8:37:03 GMT
Bus tickets were expensive.
No, that wasn't correct. Bus tickets, plural, were expensive. A singular bus ticket was both cheap and relatively convenient to purchase when you only needed one of them. When you needed multiple, the cost stacks up. Then you account for transfers, the societally mandated 15% tip, and the delays. After it all, you're left with no money in your account and even less in your pockets.
This was why mankind's greatest invention was not the Poké Ball, the Pokédex, incenses, racing Pokémon, or sliced bread. The greatest invention ever created by mankind was instead the legendary bus pass. You could use them anywhere, take them anywhere, and save money anywhere! There was one distinct problem with buying a bus pass, however:
You needed to navigate through the official website.
Howard could barely unlock any device with a password, much less navigate through some of the buggiest and most poorly designed websites ever created in Hoenn's history. That's why he bit the bullet and bought a dozen bus tickets as he took the winding path into Mauville City. Now that he was finally off the bus, he wanted to kiss the ground.
"I'm never taking a bus again in my life." Howard groaned as he bent forward to kiss the ground. This was a noteworthy feat, given that his backpack was almost as large as he was, and was part of the reason that all those tickets had been so expensive. Yet another reason that Howard would never take another bus, ever. The bus that was now loading with passengers seemed to disagree, however.
You'll be taking me back, Howard. The bus whispered into his ear with devilish intent.
I am not taking you back. Howard thought towards the bus.
Yesssssssssssss, the bus hissed back. Yet the only verbal insults the bus could throw towards Howard was the sputtering of its engine and the clickity clack of shoes on steps as the bus loaded up with people. Howard turned away from the box and popped his back, releasing a satisfying grunt as his spine remembered how to bend properly again. Now that he was in Mauville, the only thing left to do was call into his hotel for the night and prepare for a fresh start in the morning.
"Crud, what was that hotel number again...?" Howard scratched his chin. He snapped his fingers. "Right! It's something like this..." The archaeologist punched in the hotel's number and his device began to ring.
"We're sorry, but the location you are trying to reach could not be found. Please try again later." The device beeped at him, and Howard stared back at it in a lack of comprehension. He frowned and punched in the number again. Same response.
"Nononononono...!" Howard punched the number in again for the third time. Third time's the charm, right? The same response greeted Howard's ears.
"THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENINGGGGG!" Howard yowled, causing a ruckus that would draw any eyes towards him. He hardly seemed to notice, though. This was a common occurrence.
