Haina Desert - Pokemon Sun & Moon

A VAST DESERT LANDSCAPE dotted with rocky structures and monoliths. Curiously, they almost seem humanmade, though there are no signs of people here. Shrubbery and turquoise crystals are encrusted throughout the bright and sweltering dryland. Occasionally, you may stumble upon rocky terrain that is difficult to traverse.[break][break]

Mysterious obelisks with missing seals are situated throughout the desert. No one knows why they exist, or who made them.

the sight of the dead body is sobering. [break][break]aaron listens to Greyson Connors read the yellowed paper he plucked off the corpse, arms crossed and gaze lingering on the slumped shape at their feet. he doesn't know shit about megalopolans, at least not enough to discern the blue skin peeking out from beneath tattered clothing as anything but the process of decay (another thing he doesn't know shit about). like any good canon character, Greyson Connors raises their spirits with a comment that makes aaron breathe a little harder out of his nose. he lets out a small cough to stifle it.

"i mean, shit," he shrugs unhelpfully. "takes a furry to know a furry so you're probably right."

aaron moves on, following the length of the hall, inspecting the rust and damage like he knows what he's supposed to be looking for on this hunk of scrap metal.

it's not fear that he carries forward but caution and understanding earned only after years of experience in the field. there's also an innocent sense of wonder that grows when he peers around at what greets them.[break][break]

the mummified bodies are ignored in favor of a sigil on the wall. he approaches, and carefully, he reaches out to smooth his hand over it.[break][break]

a few seconds pass before the ground shakes. the wall crumbles before him to reveal an immense vault.[break][break]

it comes out staccato, incredulous, riding a wave of laughter that rises in his throat. he opens his mouth to say more, but then the ground shakes and his attention is drawn down the hall to LANCE VOLLANS and the vault that's opened in front of him. [break][break]
"holy shit, dude."

aaron follows after Greyson Connors , peering over his head at the treasures calling out to them on the other side of the now-crumbled wall. he feels the tiniest twinge of suspicion, but it's easily drowned out by flourishing thoughts of becoming the richest man in the region.

"aight," aaron says with a too-nonchalant shrug of his shoulders. he never watched the mummy, never mind the sequel, so the reference is lost on him. "you got it, commander delphox-fucker."

he skirts around them, confident until he reaches the threshold. he steps inside tentatively, looking around for bodies or traps that might kill the immaculate vibes of this vault.

"seems pretty good to me," he calls out, voice echoing off high walls and tall ceilings. "think we can take some of this stuff home with us?"

and then, inevitably, he touches something. or tries to. his hand phases through the ornate latch of a treasure chest, past bejeweled metal and into nothingness. he snaps his hand back to his side, but he feels like he's already fucked everything up.

something deeper in the once-vault glitters, catching his eye. he ignores the rumbling, ignores the fading footsteps of LANCE VOLLANS and Greyson Connors as they pull back to safety.

"what the fuck?" he mumbles, closing in. a glass of clear liquid, so ordinary and out of place in this alien world. he picks it up, takes a sniff, and finds it odorless.
