The battle’s forgotten, at least for the moment. Everything here is a test. Everything.[break][break]
From his vantage point overlooking this strange show, Navy runs a hand along his chin. He’s lost in thought, thinking on what to do next. She’s not stupid. She knows what Rocket would do. She knows how to press the advantage…[break][break]
But she chooses to be better.[break][break]
That, there, is the lesson. It’s the understanding that they willingly choose to not press that advantage. They know the stakes, but they still choose to be better. There is only one single thing in Sheriff Navidson’s world more important than victory: the lives of the innocent.[break][break]

From behind it all appears Navy who had been watching the match.

“And that’s what makes us better than them.” He says solemnly. “The ones up top on both sides. Valor comes in a thousand forms. We’re not just a militant government. We’re warriors protecting the peace. It’s our duty to protect people.” His ideal world, after all, is one where people are allowed to be weak if they so choose. With people like Johanna bearing the burden of strength, tempered by volition, that world seems a little bit closer to becoming reality.[break][break]
“Here.” Pulling open his jacket, he pulls out the valor badge – his own personal copy no less – and tosses it her way. In no time at all, the flames are put out.[break][break]
“Before you go, follow me.” He leads her to a quiet corner of the gym. There stands a smooth wall carved from the granite. Along the wall is carved words of wisdom from those who already earned their badges.[break][break]

She accepted the Valor badge as it flew toward her. She smiled, happy with the victory. And so she thought that would be the end of it.

But she was wrong as Navy surprised her with another task. A small one, but a task nonetheless. He led her to the smooth granite wall and instructed her to write a message of her own.

She took her time to ponder the various words she wished to impart on the people coming after this.

At last, after what felt like an eternity, she wrote.

‘Always strive to be better’

No easy task, she knew that. But a worthwhile one.

Then she turned to Navy and said. “I am ready now.”
