nothing comes from watching the HURRIFERNO sweep through their opposition, incinerating everything in its path until all that's left is ash and dust.[break][break]

no guilt, no remorse, only sick, twisted satisfaction that creeps up in the form of a grin. it fades when he watches groudon's SOLAR BEAM collide against garchomp's MAX WYRMWIND, each blast of energy as strong as the other. but something has to give.[break][break]

the resulting explosion of energy sends them skyward. charizard is lifted high up, spiraling out of control only to come level with the help of its HURRICANE.[break][break]

even before the explosion dies down, charizard and matias are soaring toward Navy, firing off a DRAGON PULSE as they approach.[break][break]

Something causes his sygna suit to deactivate. He is made aware of the heat. It’s blinding. Scorching. It is like standing upon the surface of the sun.[break][break]
Something gives, and he only hangs onto Vortigern by a thread. Matias comes for him. The pulse rocks Vortigern. It’s a war on two fronts. A god on one side, a paragon of his kind on the other.[break][break]
Four of his Pokemon are gone, snuffed out like candles. Nothing before the wrath of an angry god and his chosen one. This is the fury that shaped continents. This is the hand of a god at play.[break][break]
Yet still, when faced with all that, he can’t back down. This is his job, it’s what he told Amor Rose he was here to do. It’s his job to protect people from the people charged with protecting them. Matias Silph is no hero – merely a monster. In that realization is resolve. Resolve forges a battle bond.[break][break]
“Never.” He says. “Not to you. Not to Rocket.” That’s what it means to be a champion.[break][break]
Hattori appears in a flash of blinding light. His mega stone reacted to his Lord’s resolve. The overt thing to do would be to strike Charizard. To strike at Charizard is to spell his doom. No. His place is not to be strong. Hattori's place is to be quick and clever. He acts as a thief in the day, moving in close to snatch Ash's mega stone before disappearing once again.[break][break]
Vortigern lunges for Groudon. This is no proper attack. It’s a feral thing, a monster going for another monster’s throat. He wrestles with the god of the land. Together, they reshape the landscape of the chamber beneath them.

with their MEGA STONE snatched by the THIEVING greninja, their MEGA EVOLUTION comes to an abrupt end.[break][break]

there is a limit to what matias is able to do here. he knows this—knows that crossing a particular line will make it impossible for them to excuse him. even in his rage, he knows these limits that confine him.[break][break]

so, for that reason, Navy will live.[break][break]

Navy and his Garchomp are only spared by the Black Dragon’s guile. Nothing proves half as effective at mitigating the rage of a god as that god’s own domain. With a rending claw, the dragon raises up a barrier of solid stone. It creates enough space between the two combatants that both will have a moment to reconsider – perhaps long enough for the elite to wrangle his patron into leaving.[break][break]
His escape will not come easy. Hattori, having heard a threat to his Lord’s life, is relentless on the offense. The Greninja seems to appear from every shadow. He lashes up, strikes, disappears. Each shadow sneak carries him away from the eruption. Hattori is no fool. One false step and he dies. Neither will his honor allow him to make this a cakewalk.[break][break]
“And stay out!” Navy shouts, doubting the other man can hear him. The organ above them alone hums like an active reactor, feeding dyna energy into Vortigern to maintain the transformation. Add an eruption and all the other distractions, they turn into empty words. Considering everything he’s lost today, it feels good to say them all the same.

for the sake of keeping dewford whole, they leave, groudon vanishing back into the capsule that is somehow able to contain it. there, its rage will linger and fester, perhaps never to disappear.[break][break]

the SHADOW SNEAKS prove to be nothing more than a nuisance as they soar out before eventually returning to hoenn, a place he does not consider home but fights for it all the same. he is their hero, after all.[break][break]
