Zev's Dragalge cut through the water as he raced away from the medical corps ship. He had only succeeded in delaying the supply line, not sinking it completely. A victory was still a victory, however, and in his mind, he had accomplished enough.[break][break]

As he and his Pokémon raced toward the distant island, Zev kept his eyes out for any hostile forces that might intercept him. He expected Rangers, mostly, but he was prepared for other government vessels or even the League-aligned Nautica.[break][break]

Rangers he could handle with ease. The latter would prove more troublesome.[break][break]

Ahead, he spotted shapes moving in the water. Behind his full-face mask, the Rocket Beast narrowed his eyes. Was it friend or foe?

Her earlier battle with Rocket had cost her Munchlax and Gengar, her oldest and most trusted pokemon. The duo were recovering, and Robin didn't even have a full pokemon team (let alone a strong one), so they had her scouting the sea to report back if any Rocket members were discovered. She was shaken from her earlier fight, but this was a second chance to help, so she took in stride. At least out here, she wasn't being scrutinized, and it was actually beneficial to have some time away from the havoc.[break][break]

Til the boredom set in.[break][break]

She was determined not to think about how hard she'd lost earlier, but she was running out of ways to stimulate herself among the waves. It had to have been at least an hour she was out there. Just as she was hoping to be relieved, she turned to see a fast approaching figure. Oh, thank goodness. She would benefit from a different, less monotonous task to help freshen her eyes.[break][break]

"Glad you're here!" She yelled, waving in broad motions with one arm so the motion could translate well over the distance -- something her voice couldn't manage over the waves. She pet Seadra's head for a moment, glad she'd have a chance to stretch her legs. As the figure got closer, to proper speaking distance, Robin nodded approvingly at the mask. "That's super sick. Where do I get one of those? I don't want the reflection of sun on the waves to sunburn my face too bad." Only slowly did something trickle in from her subconscious, some kind of internal alarm that things were amiss.[break][break]

The figure in the distance waved at Zev, clearly assuming he was a friend. As he and his Dragalge drew closer, he saw they were seated on a Seadra, and that they were wearing the telltale colors and design of a Ranger uniform.[break][break]

From the way they—no, she—was yelling, she must have assumed he was there to back her up. It only meant he had the advantage.[break][break]

Zev uttered a low whistle only his Pokémon could hear. At once, Dragalge unleashed a SMOKESCREEN, covering the space between Zev and the Ranger. Then, opening a Pokéball, the Rocket Beast released his Marshadow.[break][break]

The small ghost zipped through the smoke, lunging straight for the Seadra. Gathering energy in its body, it lashed out with FORCE PALM, attempting to paralyze the Ranger's Pokémon.

In a second, everything went south. [break][break]

The smokescreen startled her and the Seadra both. Seadra was one of her newest additions to the team, and the pokemon had not yet learned to tame its more base instincts in favor of protecting its trainer. "We're under attack!" She managed to cry out before being bucked into the water. Mistakenly, she thought the newcomer was still her friend, arriving just in time to witness the smokescreen assault. [break][break]

Robin re-emerged from the water to the sound of the Marshadow's assault on her Seadra. The pokemon made a strangled noise as it was paralyzed. Robin pulled a pokeball from her belt and aimed it to the sky, releasing Honchkrow. "Pursuit!" She sputtered out, letting the flying type seek out the Marshadow as best it could in the smokescreen to enact its requested Pursuit. "Where did they come from?" [break][break]

She swam to her Seadra which was twisting uncomfortably in the water. "It- it's okay," she murmured lowly. She lifted her head to speak to her flying type. "Honch, clear the smokescreen as best you can." She never seen it use a flying attack, but it's movement in the air might work out in removing the obstruction. She then dove underwater to see if she could see any more aquatic assailants, but she only saw the bottom of the Dragalge.[break][break]

She broke the surface again. "It's you?" She had intended to sound accusatory, angry, but it came out weak from the salt water and surprise instead. "Honch, get to Ollie, NOW." The bird would try to leave the scene if uninterrupted.

Off the paralyzed Seadra and into the ocean, brought Honchkrow out for a brief attack and then sent him to flee to a more capable Ranger.

The sound of a splash told Zev that his Marshadow's attack had unseated the Seadra's rider. He urged his Dragalge forward through the black haze toward their foe.[break][break]

As soon as the Honchkrow emerged to counter Marshadow's attack, the ghost switched its target. The PURSUIT caught it off guard, sending it flying several yards back into the dispersing.[break][break]

But then Marshadow righted itself and zipped after the Honchkrow to throw a THUNDER PUNCH at the retreating bird.[break][break]

Zev, meanwhile, faced down the rookie Ranger. He had assumed the League would assign more experienced trainers to the island's defenses; they must have been desperate to put their newest recruits in direct danger.[break][break]

It didn't matter to him, of course. He would mow them down all the same.[break][break]

At his command, Dragalge launched a DRAGON PULSE straight at the girl and her Seadra.

The waves, smokescreen, and cries of her pokemon overwhelmed her. She had a burst of hope that Honchkrow could get to Ollie, only to have it crushed as the Marshadow launched a critical thunder punch. Honchkrow's cry was shrill as it descended to the ocean, KO'd, but Robin still had the peace of mind to return it to the pokeball before it would harshly enter the water. [break][break]

She had no idea where the guy was within the smokescreen. She did her best to return to Seadra's back as she shouted, "What do you want?" Seadra, however, had other plans and resisted, bucking her off several meters away. She couldn't fault the seadragon for wanting to flee, but Robin was running out of time and Seadra was her strongest of all the newer pokemon she was wielding. [break][break]

Seadra pushed out of her small field of vision within the smokescreen and was clipped by a pulse in the water. It whimpered lowly after, and she knew Seadra could take another hit, but she couldn't do it anymore. She withdrew the pokemon in its pokeball and held her hands up in surrender. [break][break]

"Hey, I'm out. That's it, that's all the pokemon I have." She couldn't justify bringing anyone else into this losing battle. "Please, you won the battle." She had lost battles before - more than she could count - but she had never felt like this. Unsafe like anything she'd ever experienced before; it was more than being outclassed by someone else or even hunted by a predator pokemon. An equally visceral but foreign fear filled her heart now. She was not prey like to a pokemon, but victim to someone, a person, with a higher intellect.

The Honchkrow fell, recalled into its Pokéball before it could hit the water. The Seadra soon followed it, leaving the rookie Ranger defenseless out on the open ocean.[break][break]

At her master's command, Zev's Dragalge came to an abrupt stop alongside the girl, sending a wave of water splashing over her. Zev's hand shot out, curling around the collar of the Ranger's uniform jacket.[break][break]

"Then you're coming with me," he said, the mask digitally warping his voice into a guttural growl.[break][break]

With a single arm, he attempted to haul the girl onto the back of his Pokémon.

From fear to humiliation -- she wasn't making any good moves.[break][break]

In her defense, she's stunned when he just grips her by the uniform collar like she's a wet kitten. It takes a moment for the situation to set in. When it does, she begins flailing. [break][break]

"So, now you're a kidnapper?! Get off me!" She lacked the fearsome team of her superior Rangers, but she couldn't let that keep holding her back. She lost the battle, but being taken like this would create much more stress for her colleagues than failing to hold back a Rocket villain. She risked losing her Ranger status if she failed this hard. [break][break]

The idea of it ignited her; on top of flailing from his grip, she moved to beat her fists at his back and wherever she could reach, though she lacked the positioning to land a good shot without dumb luck. She did her best to embody her Gengar's chaos, moving erratically in his grip to prevent him from securing her for travel. "Let me go!"

Was this girl an idiot? Did she think Zev was really going to let her go in the middle of a battlefield? "This is a war," he said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Now cooperate, or you'll regret it."[break][break]

Normally, he would have no trouble manhandling a person of her size. But between the swelling ocean waves and the splashing as a result of her flailing, she was slipping out of his grip.[break][break]

In an attempt to knock her unconscious, Zev lashed out, aiming a fist at her face.
