Reiner's electricity repelled the IRON JUGULIS, but not for long; the Paradox Pokémon's three heads each belched a cone of FLAMETHROWER in the Luxray's and the child's general direction. That would not stand with Josh. After all he had done, he wasn't going to let the terrified young girl take any more punishment in front of his eyes.

Leaning low into the saddle, Josh squeezed the reins tightly, ordering a QUICK ATTACK from his mount to catch up to the Paradox Pokémon with all due haste. "Faster, Blitz! Faster! When you get close enough, electrify that hunk of junk!"

In a flash of lightning followed almost instantly by a low rumble, the Gym Leader and his Luxray pounced toward the metallic dragon, a powerful and precise SHOCK WAVE cutting the flying-type's FLAMETHROWER short. The two electric attacks were more than enough to force the Iron Jugulis back into the mist from whence it came.

[attr="class","inner-finally"]Speed is what he had boasted when he once challenged her little gym. Speed is what he continues to boast even to this day, what he uses to go after the Iron Jugulis and dismantle it back into mere wisps of imagination.[break][break]

But all the speed in the world still won't allow Josh to turn back the hands of time, a still beating heart uncomfortably swallowed as Reiner slinks over and picks her up. Does one right make everything okay? Is he actually trying to help her? Or is he just trying to alleviate his own guilt?[break][break]

Regardless, he's still saved them from an unnecessarily messy battle. Her eyes briefly meet with his, then sweep away as she beckons Reiner onwards. And before Josh can hope to stop them, they'll disappear in the rolling waves of pink.

The split second of eye contact Eris afforded Josh felt like the most kind gesture one could give. It was a split second that, to him, was as close to an acknowledgment of his sincerity, his empathy, and his true character as he was going to get out of Eris. Josh didn't expect her to turn a new leaf toward him in the moment. He was responsible for perhaps the girl's most traumatic moment in her entire life. The privilege of carrying on a civil conversation with her may not come for months. Years. Perhaps in Josh's lifetime, even. Seeing Eris alive and well sparked something had never felt in his heart since that fateful day. He at last felt ready to forgive the hardest person to forgive for the actions that still marred his reputation to this day. Not MATIAS SILPH.

After the young child disappeard into the pink mists, they began to swirl with the face and stings of the Beedrill locked in League custody. Waving a hand at them, the mistforms fell apart. "Eris... I'm sure we'll see each other again," he said to himself before turning toward the opposite boundary of the Interdream Zone. Keeping his Luxray to a relaxing canter, the Gym Leader emerged on the south side of the island, a great burden lifted from his shoulders.

He was ready to give it his all against Rocket.
