In the caverns beneath the new island on Route 105, Zev and his Annihilape faced off against the oncoming League forces. Dressed in his black combat gear, his face covered in a mask, none of them would recognize him except as the battlefield specter he was.[break][break]

He, however, recognized one of them at once.[break][break]

The girl with the Flygon and Charizard, he recalled, advancing toward her. This time, only the latter strode at her side.[break][break]

"You," Zev said instead as he stepped in her path, his mask digitally distorting his voice.[break][break]

His hand twitched in a signal to his Annihilape, who leaped forward. At the same time, the Rocket Beast pressed the button in the middle of his Tera Orb; the ghostly primate flashed with brilliant, coruscating light as he Terastallized and received Electric typing.[break][break]

Electricity charged the air as a THUNDERBOLT crashed toward the Charizard.

Entering into the huge cavern, it soon turned into a free for all, utter chaos broke out from all sides and there was no turning back.[break]
Yuina stayed close to Rasza, the dragon roared and flared with furious flame at all the stray attacks and offending rockets that came near, they had to do their best to maybe not even fend them off, but at least slow them down...[break][break]
And then, as if everything else around her was silent, Yuina heard one word, a voice she hadn't heard before, but she didn't have to to recognize it... To feel the encroaching danger upon that one word...[break]
She was face to face now with him, the one that attacked her in the air, she didn't know his name, and never saw his face, but she would still recognize him anywhere she felt like... And then the battle started.[break][break]
Yuina rushed away from Rasza as the air around her filled with devastating electricity, and the Dragon had little choice but to brunt the entire shock, they weren't prepared, Yuina should have been... How could she have known... Rasza roared, her scales crackling with electricity, and Yuina reached out to her with the energy she knew was there.[break]
The Charizard roared again, breaking out of the grips of the electricity, undergoing her change and Mega Evolving, the heat in the cavern rising now. The dragon roared, her firing burning brighter as she unfurled the length of her neck and released the most powerful Inferno that she could muster.

The two Pokémon clashed, their battle joining the greater chaos all around them. INFERNO struck true, filling the air with the stomach-churning stench of singed fur and burnt flesh.[break][break]

Annihilape screamed in rage and defiance, red eyes flashing. Closing the gap between him and his foe, he countered with POISON JAB.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Zev watched the young woman with predatory intent. In the skies, he had not been able to harm her directly. But there, on the ground, in that cavern, nothing held him back.[break][break]

Drawing a combat knife from its sheath at his hip, he advanced on the girl.

The battle was full on now, as Rasza filled the cavern with heat and burning intensity, her fire struck and indeed did sear the raging Pokemon that her attacker had sent out, but it didn't stop the Pokemon. Instead, through the flames, it rushed forward and closed the distance between them and struck with a poison laden fist as Yuina rushed to get out of the immediate line of attack.[break][break]
Rasza roared, her scales tinging a slight purple as she recoiled back, she was already exerting a lot of her energy in being in the mega evolved state, but now the poison seeped into her scales... Yuina turned to her partner, in the midst of the battle she knew that they didn't have to be here for long, just long enough... But she was afraid they wouldn't even have that long...[break][break]
Especially as she looked and found that he was holding a knife... His intention was clear... Yuina was shaken, panicked, she didn't need to see his face to understand the very clear intent he had behind wielding a blade, the way that he was advancing towards her... If he got a hold of her.... She turned and ran, she needed to keep her distance, keep herself away from him, and she moved to rush to the other side of Rasza.[break][break]
Shaking off the effects of poison, only for now, Rasza roared as she pushed away the offending Pokemon with a wing, and found that the human attacker was advancing as well. The dragon flapped her wings furiously, whipping up the dust and dirt in the cavern, set alight with her burning energy for Scorching Sands.

Annihilape flew through the air, the Charizard's wing sending him tumbling end-over-end. Eventually, the Ghost-type righted himself, but looked haggard; the burn he sustained slowly ate at his flesh, charring more of it.[break][break]

But the reptile's next attack was not aimed at him. Zev paused as the Charizard inserted herself between him and her trainer. As soon as she began to flap her wings, he covered himself in crystalline armor, though most of it remained hidden beneath his clothes and mask.[break][break]

The SCORCHING SANDS ripped into his clothing, fraying the fabric with countless, tiny scratches. He took the brunt of the attack without bothering to cover his face with his arms, knowing the sand could not penetrate his carapace.[break][break]

"You should focus on your opponent," Zev said, "not me."[break][break]

Annihilape lunged from the darkness of the cavern to rake a SHADOW CLAW across the Charizard's scales.

The mistake was already made, as Rasza had turned to try and blow away the human advancing on them, it was like he didn't even budge, and her searing sand did nothing to hinder him as he remained where he stood. Instead though, that left her open, and the dragon roared at the heavy strike she took head on, the Annihilape having full agency to get in close again.[break][break]
Rasza hissed, the poison still stung in her scales, and now she could feel seething shadows seeping into her face, she just needed to put some distance between them again, or else she wasn't sure she could go on much longer... Rasza opened her wings and lunged into the air, flapping furiously then as a Hurricane whipped around the Annilihape.[break][break]
That moment left Yuina entirely open as she shielded her eyes from the whipping dirt and sand that the dragon's wings kicked up.

Once more, Annihilape flew through the air, the HURRICANE sending him slamming into a large stalactite. He fell to the ground with a heavy thud, injured further by the incessant burn. Still, he managed to rise and retaliate with another THUNDERBOLT.[break][break]

Zev took the opportunity to advance on the League woman again. Though the winds kicked up by her Charizard buffeted him and offered some resistance, he eventually closed the gap between them.[break][break]

With one hand, he grabbed the front of her clothing to prevent her from escaping; with the other, he brought the knife down upon her.

Wind whipped around the cavern, Rasza fought with her wings to push the crazed primate away so that it couldn't get a hold of her, but even as it was thrust into a set of rocks and fell to the ground with a heavy thud, that didn't stop it from getting back up and surging with crackling electricity.[break][break]
Standing in the midst of it all, the chaos, the conflict, Yuina had had trouble keeping tabs on what was going on around her as she tried to shield her face, blinking furiously as dust and debris flew around from Rasza's attack. Looking up and around, finding herself exposed in that moment, she had little time to do anything else before she felt herself thrust forward by her chest.[break][break]
In that quick instant, Yuina was face to mask with the man that had targeted her, and even as she stumbled in being grabbed, no words escaped her mouth, but her eyes said everything that her voice lost in panic and fear couldn't. She struggled, pushing against his hand that held her there, to no avail, she was trembling, terrified. She couldn't even see this man's face, not a single feature, she would never know what his gaze held, she would never know who this assailant was... And then...[break][break]
A piercing scream caught Rasza's attention, and in that one second she turned her gaze, the primate's Thunderbolt struck her. The dragon roared, electricity surging over her scales again. She lost altitude, falling and trying to catch herself on her wings, but she fell the rest of the way, landing on the ground with a heavy thud, barely standing on her two legs. She was poisoned, electrocuted, slashed, she could feel the power of her mega evolution waning, and as the Charizard hissed through panting fangs, she turned to find Yuina frozen, a knife thrust into her shoulder at the hands of the man that had advanced on them.[break][break]
Unsure of how much longer she could keep going, if this was the last thing that she was going to do, the dragon roared with all of her remaining energy as she lunged forward. Claws aimed to grab the assailant and thrust him away from Yuina, and with what strength she had left, Rasza picked up Yuina's petrified figure and moved into the air, looking to head back through the caverns they had come through, and away from this... monster.

Zev's blade sank cleanly through cloth and into unprotected flesh. He was already in the process of yanking out the steel to attempt a more fatal strike when the woman's Charizard snatched him away.[break][break]

Her claws did nothing to his body, but he could not fight her strength; he smacked into the ground and rolled several feet with the force of her throw. Annihilape rushed to his side to defend him from another attack, but the Charizard was more concerned with her mistress' well-being.[break][break]

Zev sat up, breathing hard from the exertion and adrenaline of combat, but otherwise unharmed. He watched as the winged reptile took flight and carried the injured girl away from battle.[break][break]

Scanning the area for any other foes, he rose to his feet. "Good job," he told his Pokémon.[break][break]

And then he broke out into a run, hurrying after the rest of Team Rocket's forces in their effort to penetrate the center of the island.
