WHETHER IT WAS DISPLACED BENEATH LITTLEROOT DUE TO DIMENSIONAL ENTANGLEMENT, BROUGHT BACK TO FUNCTIONING ORDER DUE TO DIALGA, OR BOTH, can not be determined. However, this kingdom made entirely out of intricate mechanisms is void of human life. Clockwork gears, iron tunnels, and curious domes make up this kingdom that continues to function like an animatronic music box.[break][break]

Mechanical Pokemon like Magearna, Volcanion and others present in the kingdom seem to be robotic, set to a rhythm or programming like an animatronic figure.[break][break]

Several clock towers loom above the entire kingdom, though their machinery seems to be in disrepair.

Since Yumi had experience venturing into the Ultra Wilds, first in a larger group and then with a single partner, she thought going by herself would be no different. After all, she had acquired powerful Pokémon, and though Hitoshi Inoue remained her preferred bodyguard, her Pokémon made do in a pinch.[break][break]

"We're going to see what we can find," Yumi explained to Tenteki, her Phione, as they ascended a building she'd chosen at random on an elevator. Though rickety, the machine seemed serviceable.[break][break]

"Intelligence reports say that the place is full of pipework and clockwork, so perhaps we can get inspiration for my fashion line."[break][break]

The Sea Drifter Pokémon uttered an excited chirp and clapped its paws together.[break][break]

Almost at the same moment, something within the elevator's mechanisms screeched, causing the woman to clap her hands over her ears and Tenteki to jump in alarm. The carriage ground to a halt.[break][break]

Lowering her arms, Yumi glanced around at her metal cage with a new sense of trepidation. "Well, fuck."[break][break]

It had been quite some time since she had ventured into the Mechanical Kingdom's curious rift with Violet Fairbanks and dylan sayer, but now that she had finally got the assurance she desperately needed, her better mental state allowed her to traverse once more. Desiree found herself back at the apartment complexes they had found, cloaking the walls in expensive floral tapestries to make them appear much more refined than they truly were; and she was quick to cover the hole she'd made in the wall in her spout of stress and anger, hiding the mark of regret spawned by post trauma. If she hadn't snuck away to attend the ticking timepiece of a plane such as this one, she knew many would be upset and make her come with reinforcements other than her pokemon. But she wanted to come alone, to experience a personal retreat to enhance her mind.[break][break]

Though it was not much other than cozy decoration and a tiny pink mini-fridge full of water bottles, the modifications she made caused the apartment to feel much more at home. "You can put those over there on the table, we brought too much~! ♡" She directed Lumine, her Shiinotic, who held clumps upon clumps of more tapestries depicting flora. During this, it sounded as if there was clanking coming from the lower levels as if she weren't alone, prompting her to duck behind a pile of golden trinkets. Desiree hoped above all else the strange guards of metallic had not found a way inside.[break][break]

But her Phione recognized cries coming from within the elevator, those which sounded all too familiar- it had no doubts it was the same, being another of its species. Curiously approaching the shaft of the vessel, it peered over to see that it had got stuck on the way up. Calling over the Reuniclus that floated within the room and communicating in a decrepit language of sorts, previously straightening out the textiles on the walls, she began to use her PSYCHIC abilities to pull it up to their floor and open the doors to the chamber.[break][break]

The sea-dwelling pokemon trilled excitedly at the sight of the other, clapping its paws at the success while invigorated at the sight of another. Peering from behind the pile of rubble, the idol had not expected to run into another trainer, but even with her relief, she refused to let down her guard just yet. "Did you come here from Littleroot, too?" Desiree called out from behind the rubble, her golden eyes meeting the stranger. "Sorry about the elevator, it's been hard to fix.. but, are you.. also here on behalf of the league?"

Yumi spent what felt like hours trying to find a way to get the elevator to move again. She would have summoned one of her other, stronger Pokémon if the space had been big enough. As it was rather cramped, however, she didn't want to risk damaging the machinery.[break][break]

The more time passed, the more panicked she became. Distantly, she registered a song filtering through the building—a sung melody of some kind that pulled at her heart. But so engrossed was she in trying to escape her prison that she did not realize how much the song affected her.[break][break]

At last, overwhelmed by her entrapment, Yumi burst into tears. She slumped down in a corner of the elevator and sobbed.[break][break]

Her Phione cried out, distressed at her upset. It floated over to her, trying to calm her, but to no avail.[break][break]

Suddenly, the elevator lurched upward, halting Yumi's crying. She and Tenteki watched with wonder as the doors opened. A woman and her Pokémon stood on the other side of the threshold.[break][break]

"Y-Yes," Yumi hiccuped. Hastily, she wiped the tears from her cheeks. "I did, but not on behalf of anyone. I'm here on my own. Who're you?"[break][break]

Rising from the rubble of trinkets and metal, Desiree eyes met the beauty and the discordance of the woman, who appeared to be wiping away the tears from her cheeks. What a relief it was that she appeared friendly rather than one of the hostile guards of the kingdom, but it was still heartbreaking to think that she had potentially been stuck for quite some time. Especially with the quirks of the lands behind the rifts. "I'm here on my own accord too," she said, taking the hand of the Shiinotic beside her as she approached, ".. I'm Desiree, enchanté. ♡ It's safe in here I think, the guards that peruse the streets probably won't find us here."[break][break]

The tone of the Mechanical Kingdom had graced her ears just like it had the last time she visited, though it was almost as if she were used to the lulls it inflicted on her mind, one with the music itself. Though she was quite worried about being found, just like she had the last time with her group; though, it was more so that a friend decided to attack them first, right after the green clump of cells fled. Walking to look out one of the windows of the facility, the streets looked empty, at least, for now.[break][break]

"Wait, you haven't seen any pokemon-like machines guarding the streets here, have you? The ones plated in gold, with arches of metal on their backs that release steam?" Desiree asked, turning to face the stranger once more, manifesting in her heart with hope that her answer would be a no. They were tough, emotionless things, those which she had no desire to take on once more.

"I'm Yumi, and this is Tenteki."[break][break]

The woman stepped out of the elevator and followed Desiree into the apartment suite. A few of the decorations inside didn't match the rest of the architecture or interior. Plus, there was a mini fridge, which stood out like a sore thumb.[break][break]

"What is this place? Your hideout or something?" Yumi asked, looking around, her expression colored with surprise.[break][break]

At the mention of the Pokémon-like machines patrolling the streets, she nodded her head. "I did see several on my way here, but I avoided them. It's not easy to navigate this place," she added with a sigh. "Do you know what those machines are?"[break][break]

They were Volcanion, according to Team Rocket's reports. But Desiree didn't need to know that Yumi had a criminal organization's worth of knowledge at her fingertips.

Clasping her hands together with a smile, Desiree tried to burn the name of the woman into her memory, despite how she was much more versed at remembering faces. Though she had originally thought she'd be facing the Mechanical Kingdom alone this time, a vacation away from the monstrosities that cloaked Hoenn as of late, being able to find herself in the presence of another was comforting. A stranger at that, one that would not be able to hold her previous meltdown in this very housing complex against her.[break][break]

"Yes~! ♡ A few friends and I found it last time we were here, though anyone is welcome to use it if in need, you included!" She exclaimed, fluffing out one of the tapestries near the window. However, her bubbly demeanor died down at her confirmation, cloaked in concern when Yumi expressed that she had indeed spotted some of the guards navigating the ruined kingdom. It was a blessing that the stranger had been able to avoid such beasts, but their presence was a precursor of worry.[break][break]

The thought that they could be lurking in the corners of this brilliant world once more manifested goosebumps on her skin, mechanical eyes scanning for any intruders. "I think they were constructed to represent a certain kind of pokemon, one I've never seen before. They guard the streets and are very hostile, very mean-spirited.. if they have spirits at all, their parts crumble and fall off when struck. Perhaps royal guards? There are portraits of them in the big castle, too." Desiree rambled a bit, hoping to enlighten the fellow adventurer on those she'd encountered. If there was safety in knowledge, she hoped that what she said would prove fruitful- especially if they would encounter one, arceus forbid.

Yumi opened her mouth, prepared to respond to Desiree's comments, when a mechanical stomping noise filled the air. Quiet at first, it steadily grew louder.[break][break]

It sounded like an approaching Volcanion.[break][break]

Yumi threw a surprised and apprehensive look at Desiree, then turned in the direction of the noise. Sure enough, an enormous Pokémon-like creature, its body made of red-and-gold metal plates, turned the corner and entered the space.[break][break]

Immediately spotting the two women and their Pokémon, it unleashed a mechanical roar and a blast of STEAM ERUPTION in their direction.[break][break]

"Fuck!" Yumi shouted, ducking behind the nearest furniture. "Tenteki, do something!"[break][break]

Her Phione cried out, determined, and aimed a SUPERSONIC at the Volcanion.

It felt exciting to be of use in one way or another, having been able to tell a stranger more about the guards that had taken to the streets of this strange kingdom. But all of that excitement had been reduced to fear and caution, turning to face none other than an approaching guard. The curious ticking mechanical being was alone this time, a blessing amidst the wretched soulless prowess it exhibited, but it still was nothing less than a lethal threat.[break][break]

Retaining the Reuniclus and Shiinotic into their respective containers on her belt, Desiree sprinted to duck alongside Yumi near the closest dilapidated furniture. "Not again, nononon," she whined to the universe, haphazardly pulling a pink, glowing orb from her purse, ".. aim for the arch, my blossom! Striking it may make it unstable, unable to attack once more! Fuck!" Clicking the button on the glowing orb, terastal energies swept through the surrounding air to Phione's head, granting her a crown of glistening dewdrops. Though the steam eruption of the guard was enough to barrel the sea-drifter pokemon backward, it had been able to absorb the hit to protect the trainers hidden behind the couch, barely faltering the crown upon its head.[break][break]

A similar cry to Tenteki's resonated through the room as Desiree's Phione cast BUBBLE BEAM from its crown and mouth, popping and rippling toward the Volcanion Guard's arch on its back. Though some crashed upon the surface and crackled at the metal fragments, causing some to shed, more bubbles fluttered through the hole toward a large pile of gears and mechanical trinkets. Upon their impact, some of the smaller bits split into two, releasing what appeared to look like souls. The glimpse the pinkette got of such things was brief, for the chaos unfolding around the safehouse was overstimulating- but it made absolutely no sense, for inanimate objects were the farthest thing from the living.[break][break]

Was that the secret of the Mechanical Kingdom, being that the gears that turned the clockpieces were alive deep on the inside? Desiree wished not to believe it within her hyperventilation and panic.

From her hiding place, Yumi watched the battle unfold. She, too, saw the strange phenomenon rise from a pile of machinery struck by the bubbles, but she had no vocabulary to describe it.[break][break]

In any case, the raging battle occupied her attention. As the Volcanion roared and rumbled, it countered the Phione's attacks with those of its own.[break][break]

Thankfully, the earlier SUPERSONIC befuddled it, and the strange, mechanical Pokémon ended up accidentally charging into a wall. The structure cracked, and that section of the ceiling bowed, as if ready to collapse.[break][break]

"Tenteki, the ceiling! Hit the ceiling!" Yumi yelled.[break][break]

The Phione aimed a DAZZLING GLEAM at the fragile construction. It fell directly on the Volcanion, knocking it unconscious at once. The Pokémon slumped bonelessly against the floor.[break][break]

Slowly, Yumi stood. She glanced at Desiree. "I think you probably want to find a new hideout."[break][break]

The guard of the dilapidated citadel seemed to stumble into a wall, and with the glimmering array of the fellow Phione, fragments of the structure rained down to render it unconscious. Raising her hands to her heart in shock, attempting to stifle her heavy breathing, Desiree looked in shock at the whirring mechanics slowly coming to a halt. A heartbreaking sight interwoven in relief, for they were free at the cost of the vanity she'd spent hours adorning on the walls and corners. Her first instinct was to be upset at such things, but expecting to create such a personalized space in such a strange terrain was a bit unrealistic when looking at it from an objective view.[break][break]

"It's worth it, as we're safe," she spoke with heavy breaths, picking herself up from the rubble and meeting the gaze of the other woman, ".. Thank you for that. But conspiracy theories were conspiracy theories, even if the one she had of aliens had been proven true in the swamp coated in Megalopolan blood. Looking to the elevator, Desiree felt she'd had enough of the Mechanical Kingdom for one day, especially after that. Tapestries torn to shreds, souls vacating inanimate objects.. and secrets still tucked away, ones she hoped she'd soon be able to get in the know of.[break][break]
