Tragic Surprise, not because of the lyrics but because of the production. I tried to pay homage to my roots on my first and second albums with it, though it's a callback to all of them, honestly. I wanted this album to sound like if you were chewing stars like popping candy, but this and a few others sound like the stars are a little sharper instead of wavering light.

Desiree was never much of a gambler when it came to casino, save for the glowing slot machines with all the cute little animations- playing at the table was not her forte. But, when thinking of the suits of cards, it appeared that herself and those she accompanied resembled each suit. Elise was hearts, as were the rest of her girls. Freya, with wisdom unmatched, was spades. With the inspiration of a Paldean champion-ranked, Silverio was clubs.[break][break]

And she, of course, was diamonds. Luckily she had familiar faces by her side following the traversal, as wandering into unfamiliar rifts was a gamble in itself… and the amount of wild cards would end up winding their way into their pack, one way or another.[break][break]

Pulling the bands of the goggles around her head always brought her back to the penitentiary, though she did it regardless. A glowing LIGHT SCREEN manifested before them, curved at the edges to lessen the sand carried by the wind in their direction. Though it was not the best, the plant creature tried its hardest to move it around the four by sensing the direction the sandstom’s winds traveled through its antennae.

WELCOME TO THE PSYCHEDELIC CHATEAU, CHALLENGER.[break][break]

The clacking of her boots on the marble rang out louder than the communications device that came seconds before. A new challenger; one that she swore she recognized the name of, but in the end, would require a face to match it. She knew many an Aaron in her life, including one of her cousins- yet, on her walk, she could only recall the one unfortunate enough to be part of her family.[break][break]

”Oh, good,” she sighed a breath of relief after turning the last corner, catching the front desk’s client, ”.. You’re much less wounded than the last time we saw each other, welcome. It’s just great to see you.”[break][break]

An illuminant Glimmora unfurled its petals of crystalline just behind her, giving the idol a temporary look as if she had glowing wings. It was a test of her own to use it today, as she was still quite unfamiliar with this one- as it was more so Diancie’s court jester.[break][break]

”You haven’t run into the bird since that day, have you? Or more devout to Rocket?” she asked, before cutting herself off, ”.. walk and talk with me for a second, the course is a bit of a walk down the grand hallway.”

The wound Fezandipiti inflicted upon her psyche was opened once more, bound by its feather that rested in her palm. It was a grim feeling, walking up the volcano seeking out rumors of something so baneful so close to home. Diancie felt it too, unease in having to royally proceed to one it had not won against upon first acquaintance.[break][break]

Maybe its cage would be enough this time, having extensively sharpened its gems upon hearing the order.[break][break]

”Ultimately perfect in every single way~,” she spoke in a way of stillness, ironically, ”.. this bird has got away with far too much in far too little time. Death cannot even take it, it needs to return back to its cage.”[break][break]

The Diancie politely wavered its constructed diamond cage back and forth in its levitation as it followed- trying to break the air that the idol had caused.[break][break]

”I’m fucking terrified, to say the least. Nothing good comes from its beautiful wings.”[break][break]

She wanted to kill it deep down, even if she had sworn off those thoughts. It wasn’t like it was a human- it was worse. Capable of so much more. She bore scars from it. She didn’t want any more, though it was unlikely the two would be so fortunate.[break][break]

Dropping her cigarette into the ashtray she had fastened onto the back of the Metagross with tape and a dream, she rose to a stand as quick as she heard her voice. And much like an angel, she jumped down from the light to indulge in a loving embrace of jovial delight.[break][break]

”You came! Ina,” she giggled in excitement, running to wrap her arms around her if she were to accept, ”.. it feels like it's been forever since!”[break][break]

Their last, tropical sunlight, was replaced by the dreariness of haunted woods- but dampened scenery couldn’t overshadow the feelings that came with seeing her dearest friend in the flesh since then. A war, which they both had a part in, could not have as well.[break][break]

”The war, the Megalopolans, all of that aside! We’re alive,” she smiled with a blush, spinning around as she felt so free from it all, ”.. and a little eyebags never hurt anyone. What have you been up to?”[break][break]

A momentary pink glimmer shone from her bag, only for a small time. The presence inside enjoyed what it empathetically felt, even while retained in its orb- a glimmer was its way of showing its approval.

The shivers creaking up her spine led her to wonder why she avoided coming here- save for the recognizable hunger that presented through the bearing of Hatterene’s fangs. Desiree had not been able to tell if it was the weather or the overbearing draconic energy making them feel this way- or, perhaps the two’s acquaintance with the fae. There were just as many possibilities as there were goosebumps amidst her arrival.[break][break]

Eva’s thanks snapped her out of it for a time. ”But of course, anything,” she smiled hesitantly, sparking a cigarette, ”.. it’s what’s so curious about our brains, right? We hear all of these crazy things, but in the end, can’t help but look. I’m with you there~!”[break][break]

Perhaps their fairies could be enough if the rumors of vengeful spirits were true.. but they weren’t with Kyurem. Both the Sky Pillar and Kyurem reeked of a certain stench, similar, but ultimately different. Yet still, she held a smile of wishful optimism, obscuring all her paranoia.[break][break]

”I’m sure you know far more about this place than I do, quirks and all,” she motioned her hand forward gracefully, ”.. lead the way? I’m.. totally not anxious or anything.. There isn’t.. more than the dragon spirits being unhappy, is there?”[break][break]

It was an unordinary feeling, this one. Kyurem’s doings had brought her closer to death than ever before on Hoennian soil. Dragons were frightening, even if fairies were said to have the upper hand. Perhaps even the diamonds would be too dull to cut through something of its likeness.. if that was what awaited them on this night.

It was no real bomb, though it felt like one had gone off in her mind; cloaked fractals were revealed one by one, shedding memories once retained as if they were shards of diamonds rather than strands of thought.[break][break]

”My memories have returned~! Oh, thank goodness,” she sighed in relief, dropping the fox mask on the ground almost faster than her limbs allowed, ”.. and thank goodness for all of you~! I can’t imagine what would have occurred if I hadn’t found a lil’ group to hang around inside.”[break][break]

Releasing her tiny little Foongus, it trilled in delight as it saw Desiree donning nothing but her ordinary face tattoos. It had learned much of the last time she had been masked from one of its fellow mushrooms- and sat in paranoia within its orb all this time, fearing what could have been.[break][break]

”It was a pleasure to meet you all.. and to see you again, Helm,” she smiled, ”.. I’m going to make my departure now. Au revoir~!”[break][break]

As she left, she couldn’t believe how easily she fell into yet another trap. Had it been not for any mind but her own.. she needed to shake that thought, but she couldn’t. Would it have been worse than the toxic chains?[break][break]

It would be best to forget this night- save for the friends she had made along the way.
