Josh's office building was small and only three floors. Real estate in Mauville was expensive, and most of the Gym's budget went to constructing the sprawling Racing Grounds just outside city limits, featuring two dozen intertwined courses that made the possibilities for Gym Challenges limitless. The waiting room was a love letter to the Johto deity Raikou, a fantasy of his childhood and an eternal reminder of how aiming for the stars nearly caused his life to irreversibly spiral downward.

Following directions from ANDREW WEISS, the receptionist on duty, Kaede would have made her way to a large third-floor office that had clearly been used as storage for a mainframe computer in years past. The large windows gave a north-facing view of the Mauville Racing Grounds below. ACE SHEEKE was at the beginner-friendly TWIST ROAD course, lining up to race a challenger with a Hisuian Arcanine that looked like it took great strength to ride.

Three of Josh's large Eeveelutions were sprawled about the overly large server room converted to office space. Kairi the Vaporeon, Blinky the Jolteon, and Clyde the Flareon were laying near different corners of the room, at rest from having just ran a race with a challenger earlier in the morning. All three were the size of small Rapidash; shorter than a human but still quite large, and wore saddles that may have beckoned riders to sit in them had they been in a more open space.

Memorabilia of the legendary Pokémon Raikou was scattered everywhere: figurines, plush, and the like were neatly arranged throughout. Though the most valuable part of the collection on display was a single copy of every officially-produced Raikou trading card printed in the past two decades, his most precious was a 12-inch Raikou plush that sat on the corner of his desk, its condition indicative that it had been loved and cuddled with for quite some time.

"Morning, Kaede," Josh greeted the pinkette that was about his age. He was already impressed with the female's professionalist, getting right to the point. "Have a seat," he gestured toward one of the two office chairs on the other side of the desk before clicking and clacking on his keyboard, pulling a copy of the Gym's internal interview form to take notes on. "So from what I understand, you're interested in a position at Mauville Gym, correct?"

Josh subtly smiled as Kaede showed interest in a position that didn't involve being a Gym Trainer. Unlike what was commonly believed, one did not need a lot of experience or skills with Pokémon to work at a Pokémon Gym. There were plenty of Gym positions that did not even require ownership of a Pokémon.

"We have ample need for help outside Gym trainers. As Mauville Racing Grounds grows, so does the need for people who keep us running behind the scenes," Josh answered, clear that the candidate's nonverbal communication was properly conveyed. "That said, are you looking for more of a desk job-type position, or something more hands-on, such as a more tech or maintenance-oriented position?"
