Navy has immense respect for Remiel Calcifet. Everyone knows about him. How couldn’t they? Foreigners harbor an obsession with royalty. With the world in his hands, he could have done anything. He could have lived a leisurely life in Galar, allowed the world to pass him by, marry some beautiful girl, grow old, die with a pokepedia page that reads like 20,000 words of nothing.[break][break]
Instead, he fights in a foreign land. Remiel’s secrets and his checkered past are hidden from Navy. All the sheriff sees is a man who’s come here and put his money where his mouth is.[break][break]
They’re supposed to be meeting for training. With everything going on, the AQUA initiative has to be ready. When the manure hits the fan, and it will, they’ll all be expected to be there.[break][break]
Navy waits for him on a balcony high up in the HQ building. It’s windy up here, but not windy enough to blow the sheriff’s hat off his head or put out his cigar. It’s a nice breeze. Pidgey fly by, paying the humans glued to the ground no mind.[break][break]
“Heya, Prince.” Navy turns and smiles at the Prince when he inevitably arrives. “You manage to convince Elise she shouldn’t introduce herself as a princess to every bozo she meets?” The words are accentuated with a smile. The mention of Elise Calcifet is especially warm. A career big brother ever worries about others.[break][break]
“Look forward to seeing you in action out there. You bringing the big guy?”

The chance to train with members of the AQUA INITIATIVE was not something Remiel thought he would ever be granted again. After all, only a year ago they had been some of his most dangerous enemies. Even longer ago than that, however, he'd been invited to join. Sometimes he wondered what life might have been like if he'd accepted that offer and defected from TEAM ROCKET earlier.[BREAK][BREAK]

But that was all in the past.

With a force such as DEWFORD TOWN's Michael Navidson in their ranks, AQUA was certainly not at a lack of manpower presently. "Greetings, Navidson," The exiled prince smiles, offering a curt wave as the soles of his suede shoes rap against the polished balcony floor. Joining the man at the railing, Remiel soaks in the view for a moment before chuckling. "Elise hasn't been in Hoenn as long as I have. If we're patient, however, perhaps she'll learn the second time she's kidnapped."[break][break]

A bit of dark humor, sure. But that's what Remiel Calcifet was: a chiaroscuro of a man who had been through more than he'd signed up for.[break][break]

"ZEKROM is eager to stretch his wings again," He answers, leaning on the balcony railing with an arm. "We're taking every opportunity we can for growth and improvement." Turning to Navy now instead of the horizon, however, he nods. "Thanks again for inviting us here. It helps to have a sheriff vouch for you when you're part of the AMNESTY PROGRAM." The avatar smiles.[break][break]

“It’s a hard thing, turning away from a bad path.” The sheriff muses like a man who’s faced such a choice himself. “And you can do a whole lot of good. ‘Sides.” His smile has an air of playfulness at the edges. “I’ve got a weakness for dragons. Heard you’re a Garchomp guy, too.”[break][break]
“Seriously, though.” He says after a moment. “Glad she’s okay. If you or her need anything, you’re both welcome down in Dewford. Rocket knows better than to mess with my little town.” Somewhere in the back of his mind is an intrusive thought, that this man would have poisoned them all against them. Not this man precisely, but the creature once was – Admin Fox. Navy chooses to place faith in the notion that Admin Fox is no more.[break][break]
After all, if a god of righteous ideals vouches for Remiel, who’s he to judge?[break][break]
“We’ll be helpin’ Tapu Koko stretch his legs on a little island not far from here. We’re good to go whenever you’re ready. Got a flier on ya, don’t you? Here.” He pulls out a short range headset, tossing it at the prince. “This way we can talk over the wind while we ride.”[break][break]
A Flygon is called out in short order. Tanwyn is gentle, as far as dragons go. Her wings flutter like those of a dragonfly. Her tamer jumps in the saddle, waiting on Remiel.[break][break]
“Damn good day for riding.”

It wasn't turning away from the bad path that was difficult for Remiel. To him, most paths looked alike: each marred with grey shrubs and blessed with the bounty of green at different intervals. The fact that one of these paths ended in the potential annihilation of the world made his decision to turn away from it that much easier.[break][break]

But, no: the toughest part of turning away from one path was facing those who walked the other. Some of these faces were strangers to him, fed plump with gossip about his misdeeds. Others were not. Others had been his enemies; some even his victims. But, every once in a while, one would come along who was simply glad he'd switched paths at all.[break][break]

"Thank you, sheriff. Your support means more than you could know. We'll be sure to come visit soon." The royal nods with a smile as he unclips a Luxury Ball from his pack. From the ensuing flash of golden light, after he tosses it, a larger-than-normal GARCHOMP emerges. A low growl rumbles in her throat when she sees the FLYGON.[break][break]

Thankfully, Remiel is there to soothe her with a pat on the neck and a gentle Draconian purr.[break][break]

"Hooo, Damkina."

[break]

The matriarch Garchomp's presence alone was an answer to Navidson's understanding of Remiel's connection with dragons. "Sounds good," He responds, mounting Damkina with ease afterward. Once he's settled in, he places his headset on. "I heard TAPU KOKO is a great warrior. I can't wait." The excited grin that spreads across his face afterward is brighter than usual. "Let's fly." [break][break]

And, with that, the pair of them take off from the tower atop their dragons.[break][break]

Tanwyn’s eyes squint at the Garchomp’s challenge. Even a gentle dragon still bears a dragon’s nature. A gentle hand on her wing calms her down. She acquiesces at her tamer’s touch. Navy can see it in her demeanor – she’s grateful it is the prince’s Garchomp she flies alongside rather than his own black dragon.[break][break]
“Koko’s pretty crazy.” He ruminates over the buzzing of Tanwyn’s wings. “Not as like, a turn of phrase. No, he’s pretty close to looney.” Rather than sounding like he dreads their training, the sheriff’s voice hints at mirth. “Meanwhile, Bulu’s too lazy to even train. Dunno how Ramsey dealt with him.” Mirth turns to derision at the notion of being lazy. He gets enough of that with kyle lopez.[break][break]
“Nothin’ some dragons can’t handle.”[break][break]
He loves the sense of freedom that comes with flight. Far below, the world’s troubles seem a distant concern. It’s no wonder that those who view the world from this height forget all about the troubles of those consigned to the ground.[break][break]
“Your girl’s pretty big. Only one I’ve ever seen that’s her size is Vortigern.” A moment’s pause. “Uh, my Garchomp. Caught him in the wild. Was your girl raised in the…what was the word Elise used? The drakery?” Which isn’t the word she used at all, but that’s what a middle school education can manage.

Truth be told, Remiel hadn't had much interaction with the TAPUS that had come to HOENN. To hear that their personalities were so distinct came as no surprise. It made them less threatening if anything.[break][break]

The wind whips through his hair as he follows behind Navidson. With most people, having a conversation mid-flight was nearly impossible. Thankfully, the sheriff seemed to have enough experience with it to speak loudly and clearly.[break][break]

"The word is 'draciary'," The exiled prince smiles, having come across such mispronunciation before. "Think of an 'aviary' but with dragons. And, no: DAMKINA was born and bred in the mountains of KALOS. My father's side of the family has a history of raising and living with all sorts of dragons there." The childhood summers he'd spent there dragon-riding had always been his favorite.[break][break]

"You're a Dragon-type specialist, too, right?"

“Yep. Pretty new at it.” He wouldn’t have called himself any kind of trainer before Meteno. Just a man coasting by with a Skarmory, cracking cases to pass the time. Hoenn has a habit of reforging those that live there, for better or worse.[break][break]
“Freya helped teach me the basics. Taming ‘em’s hard work.” Tanwyn, the only dragon he has worked with for longer than a year, seems amused by the words. How she hears them over the winds, he doesn’t know. She’s always been sharp, his Tanwyn.[break][break]
“Think if I ever take Goode up on her offer to join the Elite 4, I’ll say I’m a Fighting-Specialist there. Fighting and Dragon…that way I’d get to use Arthur. Er, my Kommo-O.” That beast was a recent addition to his own draciary, if it could even be called that.[break][break]
They’ll be there soon. Garchomps and Flygons are quick. Miles are nothing to them, especially under an open sky.[break][break]
“I can tell, ‘bout your Garchomp. Vortigern was born in the wild. Makes him bigger, meaner than any other Garchomp I’ve seen. Got any tips?”

He'd heard whispers of the discussions surrounding the vacant ELITE FOUR position. If Michael Navidson was promoted to it, and Remiel graduated from the AMNESTY PROGRAM soon enough, the royal thought perhaps he might take up the challenge once more. Just as the potential thrill of those future battles begins to sink in, however, the sheriff asks for tips.[break][break]

"Depends on what you're raising them for." Remiel responds, patting a hand on Damkina's neck. "If you want them to reach their full potential, I suggest catering to their primal natures as much as possible. Most dragons are a species that achieve definition in conflict. To have them shy away from that or become excessively 'tame' is to dampen their innate strength."[break][break]

However, building these sorts of relationships with dragons was certainly not easy.[break][break]

He’s got a whole mess of Gible running around Granite Cave. You got a sygna Pokemon? Ever since I synergized with him, he’s started acting weird by Garchomp standards. Got himself eight mates. Thought harems were a human thing.”[break][break]
Or a king thing, and his Black Dragon certainly considers himself a king.[break][break]
“Think we’ll be there soon. Word to the wise…be ready. Going off his rep, Koko will be trying to pick a fight as soon as we hit the ground.”

The crown prince regards the man's long pause with interest but doesn't pry. He was sure a man like him, with a storied history he could only imagine, had much to draw from when it came to 'primal natures'. It was a sheriff's job to maintain peace and order within their given jurisdiction, after all. They often saw humanity at its worst.[break][break]

For that, Remiel had genuine respect for Navidson and his career.

As soon as the man begins speaking again, however, the royal finds himself laughing. "Dragons certainly aren't shy about that sort of thing. I have a TYRANTRUM who behaves the same way back at the draciary. It's common among alphas." Breeding for them, after all, was as much about survival and evolution as it was a show of strength and dominance.[break][break]

As soon as the conversation dips back to the meeting at hand, Remiel focuses. "Right. We're coming in hot." No introductions. No preamble. Straight to the point of the matter. With one hand, he reaches to his belt and unclips a black ball. "I suppose it's time then."[break][break]

With that, an electrifying flash summons ZEKROM into flight above them.[break][break]

"This is more his fight than it'll be mine," Remiel admits with a smile, ignoring the dissatisfied grumble of an otherwise eager Damkina. "So I'll let ZEKROM take the lead while I observe from above. Feel free to join, but apologies in advance if he gets a little carried away."[break][break]

“Holy shit.” He’s seen footage of the true black dragon, read stories, heard secondhand accounts. Like most stories, they are but a candle before the blazing inferno of living, breathing legend. Zekrom flies, and the sun is eclipsed along his path.[break][break]
There’s a reason why such creatures become the basis for stories told to children. Stories of heroism, stories of knights and dragons doing what knights and dragons always do. Navidson, a man who has seen too much in too short a time, forgets himself. He tries to remember language, mankind’s gift, enunciate words that will make him seem like something more than a street kid from Slateport out of his depth.[break][break]
“He’s, uh, he’s cool.” Smooth. Very smooth. Only an urgent need for action calls him back to the proper order of things. They fly low, close to the island. He’ll have to begin his attack soon.[break][break]
“Be our eyes in the sky.” Navy asks the prince. “I’m better on the ground, close to the action.”[break][break]
He pulls out a pokeball of his own. It’s just an ultra ball, nothing specialized or meant to house sleeping legends. Stamped atop the black-gold ball is a roaring dragon’s head. His own black dragon wants to play.[break][break]
Below, Tapu Koko notices them. Its cry carries across the air.[break][break]
“Koko? Kokokokokokokokokokokoko!” Excitement, mirroring Navy’s own.[break][break]
Vortigern, his first Garchomp, one of the largest examples of the species Navy has ever seen, flies free in a flash of crimson. Navy’s sync stone activates. He loses himself in a dragon’s soul for a moment, the suit making both dragon and human greater than the sum of their parts.[break][break]
Without warning, he jumps from Tanwyn’s back. Below him is empty air. Vortigern catches his trainer, the jets atop his head pulling in air. A sonic boom explodes from them as the Garchomp roars, flying down to meet Tapu Koko’s charge.[break][break]
Electricity and draconic energy clash, splitting the sky. Navy’s heart catches in his throat, wondering when Zekrom will join the fray.

The great LAND SPIRIT is just as impressive in person as the texts and legends had made it out to be. Perhaps a bit on the shorter side, of course, but no less intimidating as it acknowledges their challenge with an electrifying glare. ZEKROM is eager to meet it but is outpaced by a faster dragon:[break][break]

The exceptionally large GARCHOMP that Michael Navidson has synced just with.

With a size rivaling that of his own Garchomp, the dragon-born prince marvels as it makes contact with the TAPU without hesitation. But ZEKROM, of course, only sees this as an opportunity to strike. Without holding back, the BLACK YIN charges in with a BREAKING SWIPE of its large tail that threatens to strike Michael Navidson as well if they don't clear the way. "Watch out!" Remiel warns.[break][break]

TAPU KOKO, in the meantime, WITHDRAWS into his shell to guard.

The prince’s warning reaches two synergized souls. Vortigern tosses Navy aside with little ceremony, sending him flying across the island. Zekrom’s tail would have turned him into a fine red mist.[break][break]
“Thanks, Prince.” Navy calls out over comms as he stands up. Vortigern’s solution to the Zekrom problem was to dig. There is only a hole where Vortigern once stood. Garchomps, kings and queens of the land, can chew through solid stone like it is nothing, find shelter deep within the earth.[break][break]
Closing his eyes, Navy sees that darkness, feels his hand-claws tear a path beneath the ground. Vortigern will be back. For now, on the ground, Navy and the colossal black dragon must contend with their foe.[break][break]
“Here, I’ll cover for ya.” Navy reaches down into the ground beneath his feet. Vortigern has done this many a time. According to the scientists at League HQ, he now shares power with his land-king. Concentrating, he rips up like he’s revving a chainsaw.[break][break]
A blade of solid stone shoots up, its sharp ends heading right for the League’s guardian spirit. Navy’s sync stone vibrates, spreading a draconic field across the island. Zekrom and Vortigern will find their dragon spirits shine all the brighter while basking in the infinity energy, as if either needed the help.[break][break]

The swing of a crackling tail meets a worthy obstacle when it comes in contact with the hard outer shell of the TAPU. ZEKROM growls with defiance as he lands on both feet again. Before he can charge forward with another attack, however, TAPU KOKO emerges from its shell with a powerful FAIRY WIND that blows the BLACK YIN backward.[break][break]

Remiel, in the meantime, marvels at the abilities Michael Navidson has adopted. SYGNA SUIT synchronization with a GARCHOMP seemed as exhilarating as he thought it would. "That's a TIER THREE upgrade, right?" The royal calls out from afar. "Absolutely brilliant."[break][break]

When the DRACONIC FIELD spreads over the battlefield, however, Remiel takes notice of something else: the sharply draconic look in the TAPU's eyes as it glares at its opponent. Navidson's ability seemed to make them brighter.[break][break]

"Its eyes..."[break][break]

They looked like DRAGON TM's, frankly.

Theories about TAPU KOKO's relation to the DRACONIC SPIRIT were few and far between within academic circles. It was a Fairy-type, after all, and there was very little recorded evidence of any connection whatsoever. Nevertheless, Remiel was one of the few who surmised there had to be something more. They just hadn't looked in the right places yet.[break][break]

As a deity of war and conflict in the past, however, the archaeologist hypothesized it had an obscured reputation as a DRAGON KILLER. Much like his Galarian side of the family, truth be told.[break][break]

Spawning a LIGHTNING JAVELIN in his hand, the AVATAR casts it down from above before it strikes the open ground. There it embeds itself, spreading its own ELECTRICAL FIELD that mixes and mingles with Navidson's.[break][break]

remiel can summon LIGHTNING BOLTS in his hands that he can then hurl or wield for ELECTRIC-TYPE damage. he is able to throw these to a target location like a WAR FLAG OR STANDARD. should it hit a surface that is not a person or pokemon, the bolt will remain there until dismissed and will emanate a small ELECTRIC FIELD.[break][break]

within that field, remiel, his pokemon, and his chosen allies gain INCREASED SPEED due to its diminished effects of gravity; designated enemies will accrue residual ELECTRIC DAMAGE.

"We're taking it to the next level," Remiel exclaims over the ferocity of ZEKROM's roar. "Push past your limits!" And that's all the BLACK YIN needs to hear before it reaches out with a PSYCHIC power to telekinetically yank TAPU KOKO in his direction.[break][break]
