Ever since his bond with Saber and all of his Pyroar peaked, Josh felt like he himself was a Pyroar at times. "This isn't my first time here, you know!" Josh quipped back in a HYPER VOICE, still struggling to control the powers of his Pyroar PSEUDO-AVATARSHIP. He covered his mouth apologetically when the reverberation reached his ears. Before achieving this unified state, he could never raise his voice to such deafening volumes. Now it felt like second nature.

"I'm so sorry, Baki," the Gym Leader said in a much more calm tone. "I'm still learning to control my suit's new powers. It... it almost feels like I'm my Pokémon." As to demonstrate, he inhaled deeply, spewing a cone of FLAMETHROWER toward a piece of Dynite Ore and melting the surrounding impurities away. "My pride will do what they can to help. If it becomes too much to bear, I'll step in and help you."

Josh felt bad for Baki absorbing the Eternatus core's negative energy. Perhaps the reassurance of his lions working together to gather Tera Crystals, Dynite Ore, and the like would comfort her. The more physical Pyroar, such as Simba, Vitani, and Kion, shattered the rock around the skeletal walls with PSYCHIC FANGS, FLARE BLITZES, and other powerful attacks, while the others, including Aslan, melted away the surrounding rock with their superheated cones of FLAMETHROWER. Aleph, the Leader's Type: Null, guarded the entrance from the constant Ultra Beast threat.

The slumbering God beneath Dewford was right in front of them, no doubt watching as they plundered the riches embedded in His corpus. Even if He was asleep, certainly a dragon was aware when others came to steal from his hoard. [break][break]

"Manju! Watch Devlin and his friends, will ya!?"[break][break]

As she spoke, the ivory ball on her waist popped open. The Ultra Beast began to float aimlessly in the pride's direction, wincing with pain as if it felt her own burden, mimicking Tsubaki's own emotional state, somehow. Like a looking glass, she turned to Josh, and her face reflected through the parasite's glassy body. [break][break]

"Like I said, I didn't mean to be so loud," Josh continued to make excuses for his behavior. While it was true he was still learning to control his suit, especially the Pyroar side of it, there was no reason for him to scream so intensely. It got the attention of a Nihilego that floated toward the two miners. Thankfully, it was just a single one this time. Either it was a straggler or a lone wolf. Josh hoped it was the former; having left behind so much ore in the past, he wanted an easy trip in and out of the poison-type's skeleton.

The Ultra Beast Killer, seeing the Nihilego wrap a neural tentacle around Zira, lunged at the wild in an effort to sever the tentacle with his CRUSH CLAW. While it set the Pyroar free, the masked normal-type found himself wrapped by another neural tentacle. The toxin caused the Type: Null to go berserk, bucking and slashing haphazardly in a desperate attempt to dislodge the Nihilego. Josh himself had to hop out of the way of the livid Pokémon to avoid being torn asunder by a potent X-SCISSOR. "Aleph, don't attack the yellow one! Just the normal-colored ones!" he cried, trying to communicate that Manju was not an enemy. Whether the Type: Null got the message was to be determined...

[attr="class","star2tsu2"]Manju recoils instinctively as the Ultra Beast Killer tears into one of its kin. Regardless of its allegiances, it remains one with the sea. Its angelic counterparts are reflections of what it might have been. [break][break]

"Arceus! get a hold of that thing, Devlin!"[break][break]

Baki shoot back at the man, clearly frustrated. There's no time for this, they're meant to be taking what they can from the Skeleton while they still can. Now he's got a berserk pokemon on the loose, and Tsubaki's attention remains divided. [break][break]

Manju stiffens, and begins to glow the same color as the core. In response to the X-Scissor, she glimpses an opening, delivering a refracted beam of energy at the Type:Null. The advantage of rock over bug, she instinctively aims to counter the berserk beast before it can deliver judgement upon her, as it will more of her kind.[break][break]

With the pulse of the glowing organ, more Nihilego amass just beyond the walls. Their chattering sounds like the calling of birds, flocking to the intruders who fight amongst themselves.[break][break]

The METEOR BEAM thrust Aleph into the center of the skeleton, the Type: Null letting out an alien cry of his own. Outmatched by the yellow Ultra Beast, he backed down and slumped next to Josh. Seeing how horrible the wound was, he sprayed Hyper Potion over it. "None of the Ultra Beasts around here are yellow! They're all purple!" Josh scolded his Pokémon partner, Kion and Zira distracted by the outburst while the other Pyroar remained productive.

Before Josh could recall Aleph, the Type: Null bolted toward the chattering sounds the small horde made. "You can't go it alone, Aleph, especially with wounds that bad! Aslan, Vitani, back him up!" The Shiny Pyroar, the king of Josh's pride, dashed just outside the skeleton and loosed a NOBLE ROAR upon them while the female pounced one, hurling it aside with her PSYCHIC FANGS.

Josh returned to Baki's side, ready to whistle for another of his Pyroar in case the line fell. "I am so sorry, Baki," he replied. "He's been here so many times. He should know by now which Ultra Beasts are wild and which ones are tamed. I'll keep his Poké Ball close to me so it doesn't happen again."

She snaps back at him. Maybe she'd be more sympathetic if she didn't loathe her own inadequacies, but she wasn't gonna let this slide. Reminded her too much of looking in a mirror, and she sure as shit wasn't ready to be leader of a gym challenge. [break][break]

Aggravated sigh, she focuses her attention back on the core. [break][break]

"Fuck, you're causing more problems than..."[break][break]

The glow of the sea tempts her with visions of another world. She loses herself in its gaze for a moment as spectacular light shimmers, and then the world around them distorts. In front of them is a dragon wreathed in roses, an aura far more intimidating than mere ultra beasts. They recoil at once, and even Manju shivers in its presence. [break][break]

The dragon raises its roses to the sky with an elegant gesture, and then it brings down a Chloroblast on all the pokemon and trainers amassed in front of the core.[break][break]

"We can talk about it more once we get back to Hoenn safely!" Josh tersely replied, preoccupied with Aleph's attitude. The Type: Null was the best option he had to repel wave after wave of Ultra Beasts, but he was moody. It was as though the souls of the two Pokémon that died to create him remained restless in the normal-type's heart. One day, that retainer would come off Aleph's head one day. One day in the distant future, the Gym Leader would be able to see the Pokémon's true colors.

Josh knew the stress within Tsubaki was high. Nothing he could say would reduce that stress, he thought. All he thought he could do was fight alongside the valuable ally he had gained during the war. The friendly fire felled the remainder of the Ultra Beasts, but it also left Josh's Pokémon team much worse for wear. "All hands on deck, Pyroar Brigade!" the Gym Leader cried.

The five lions dropped what they were doing, a war cry from the Gym Leader amplified by his Sygna Suit. With a lion-like bellow, he created a FIRE ZONE around himself ans his team, amplifying the strength of the various fire-type attacks his pride unleashed upon the rose-wielding dragon.

The air around her increases by a hundred degrees, and Baki sweats. Staring at the abomination in front of her, she reaches to her hip to retrieve Sumire's ball.[break][break]

"Sumi, I needja! Don't let me down!"[break][break]

The arbok hisses, causing the dragon to falter for a moment, intimidated. In sync with her master's desires, there's no hesitation at all. She takes advantage of the moment to spit a sizzling bundle of corrosive acid toward it. [break][break]

"C'mon, Devlin! What's the use of all that speed if your thoughts can't keep up!?"[break][break]

A barb, like the abomination's blossoms. If there was any wonder what inspired the fusion's manifestation, the prickly personality of the poison specialist left no doubt. [break][break]

Ironically, the limit of his super speed was the speed of Josh's thoughts. Even with all the time he spent honing his reaction time, the human limit was the bottleneck that kept his Pokémon from working with Josh to their full potential. Riding Raikiri everywhere helped, but it could only do so much.
