A humid, lush jungle surrounds you. The heat is unbearable and the air is thick. Sweat clings to the skin like a Spidops' silk.[break][break]

Suddenly, a deafening explosion sounds behind you. A volcano has erupted. A lethal pyroclastic descends upon you and your Cyclizar, and you must race against the clock for your lives.[break][break]

It was time to once again enter the digital world. The simulation offered many different scenarios, but one that stood out the most involved a Cyclizar from the past. "This seems right up your alley, huh Josh?" Remarked Andrea to her friend. "I've heard that humans have been riding Cyclizar since ancient times."

Sure enough, the simulated landscape was a prehistoric jungle filled with Pokémon that were considered fossils in the modern era. Andrea found herself riding on a Ciclizar without a saddle. The climate was even more tropical than Hoenn's, which immediately became an issue for the woman currently wearing a full-body Fuecoco costume.

"It's too ho-o-o-ot!" The young cosplayer complained, pulling the zipper of her Sygna Suit all the way down. Rest assured, she was wearing a modest sports bra underneath, so no indecent exposure happened. "Whew, much better! Say, we should let our own Cyclizar tag along!" She proposed, letting Gia out of her ball. She also sent Jalapeño out, who perched on top of Gia's helmet-shaped head.

Their happy-go-lucky trip was interrupted by a volcanic eruption. As chunks of rock and ash rained down on them, the fiery cosplayer instinctively reached for the reins of the past Cyclizar, only to realize there were none. "We should go inside that cave! The ash can't reach it!" She urgently cried out, directing her mount towards it.

The simulation threw Josh into his element: he was astride a Cyclizar. If there was one Pokémon designed to be ridden without any gear at all, it was the friendly dragon that coasted on his air sacs. Goroh, Pico, and Jody all followed the ancient Cyclizar the young Leader was atop, the unfamiliar Pokémon perfectly responsive to his commands.

The presence of screeching Aerodactyl in the skies was a sign that they were in the distant past. Even his loosely-fitting tee with art of Raikou on both sides was drenched from how stlfling the humidity was. Only the high speed they were coasting at kept Josh even remotely comfortable in the tropical conditions.

Their swift but otherwise leisurely ride was interrupted by an earthquake, Josh forced to recall Goroh, who reeled about in confusion after an earthquake knocked him off his wheels. "Andrea, we need to go faster before this eruption catches us!" He pat the ancient Cyclizar's head and squeezed the dragon-type's scaly sides, trying to coax a QUICK ATTACK out of the Pokémon. They would need it if they wanted to take shelter in time!

However, your sense of security is short-lived. The cave feels odd; a powerful energy radiates from within. Further adventure reveals a Wishing Star embedded in the cave, a piece of Eternatus that has begun to metamorphose the stone around it.[break][break]

Thanks to their coordinated Quick Attacks, the pack of Cyclizar made it inside the cave in the nick of time. However, this place was not as safe as it may have initially seemed. Andrea felt an otherworldly pulse very similar to the one she'd felt during her many excursions in the Ultra Deep Sea.

"W-why is it here? This doesn't make sense... This isn't real, this isn't real..." The girl began to mumble incoherently, showing symptoms of paranoia caused by Eternatus' mind-corrupting influence. Steeling her mind, she tried clinging to whatever vestiges of sanity remained.

Josh was impressed with the ancient Cyclizar's handling; it was superior to any of the ones he had trained. Goroh spun out at the very end, barely sliding into the wide cave before the eruption would have claimed the confused dragon-type's life. Unlike the full-sim MMO that Josh played, this full-sim environment was not subject to the usual regulations. Instead of uploading the player's brain through a system, their entire bodies were digitized. This world, to its players, was just as real as the outside world. The system had full access to their brains' pain receptors.

This was no game.

Having been down to the Ultra Sea many times before, the presence of the Eternatus shard did not bother the Gym Leader. "It's just like at the Dynite mines past the rift, Andrea," Josh reassured her, withdrawing his dragons and sending out Aslan. The Shiny Pyroar's presence made the young man's Sygna Suit activate, letting him shield the cosplayer from the harmful radiation. "I'll protect you." For every time Michael Navidson shielded Josh's frail mind in his moments of dire need, he vowed to reciprocate that protection to another who needed it. In his eyes, Andrea was in need.

Suddenly, you can hear the sounds of hooves clopping toward the village. The townsperson shrieks and flees into a nearby home as a GLASTRIER crashes through the fencing.[break][break]

This was no game, indeed. If they died here, they died in real life. Andrea took Josh’s rear as he shielded her from the madness-inducing radiation, muttering a “Thank you” to the Mauville Gym Leader. She could handle most of everything thrown her way, but sometimes it got too much. It was nice to have people she could rely on when things got too overwhelming.

Suddenly, they were transported into a different simulation entirely. As the tropical climate of the Stone Age was instantly replaced by the unforgiving cold of the Crown Tundra, Andrea pulled her zipper all the way up, shivering. “Brrrr! W-why did it change all of a sudden? D-did we cause it to glitch out?”

An NPC provided helpful exposition in Ye Olde Galarian. As if on cue, a berserk Glastrier appeared, wreaking havoc on the village. “Forsooth ‘tis the steed of ice- I mean, that’s gotta be the Pokémon the old man was talking about!” The freezing cosplayer exclaimed. “We’ve gotta calm it down before it destroys everything!”

Her Fuecoco Yawned, a large bubble of snot coming out of its nostril. The girl stood a few feet away from the rampaging stallion, raising her hands in front of her. “Easy, boy! We don’t wanna hurt you! Wouldn’t you rather be sleeping than fighting?”

The sudden change of environment would have thermally shocked the Master of Faster if he were not seated on Aslan's back. The sweat on his back began to crystallize, prompting him to set the lion's reins down and cuddle the noble creature as closely as he could while Andrea Vaneau took stock of the new locale.

The entire landscape was covered in snow and ice. While Josh was more used to cold environments by way of being a Johto native, there was no truly getting used to the cold produced by the front's source: a Pokémon Josh immediately recognized as a Glastrier. He knew how fierce the equine's ICICLE CRASH was, but he also knew what would calm the creature.

Carrots.

While Andrea's Fuecoco YAWNED to wear the ice-type out, Josh sild off his lion and scoured building after building looking for a stockpile of carrots. With the villagers' consent, he snatched a pair of them to give to the narcoleptic legendary Pokémon. He carefully raised the tip of one to the Glastrier's mouth, grabbing onto it at the opposite end as to not have his fingers crushed.

"I have one of these. Kinda wish I brought her. Her name is Hylda, and she might be the fastest Glastrier in Hoenn. That's how I knew what to do."

However, whoever tames the horse finds themselves permanently bound to it. Ice freezes your limbs to the horse in eternal linkage. While the townspeople celebrate, you realize your predicament too late as you gallop out of the town.

As expected, Josh had no trouble taming the wild stallion. His entire creed was that if a Pokémon was ridable, he would ride it. He was very similar to Shalin Nariya in that regard. "No wonder you knew what its favorite food was. Nice job!" Andrea gave him a genuine thumbs up.

Having saved the village, the young man rode off into the sunset like a lone cowboy. And he galloped. And he galloped. And he galloped.

Wait, why wasn't he dismounting the Glastrier? As she noticed the ice encasing the rider's limbs, the young PokéManiac came to a horrid realization. "He's stuck there! Jalapeño, you've gotta thaw him out, but be careful not to burn him!"

With a Shift Gear, Gia the Cyclizar heated up her cold-blooded body, chasing after the galloping steed at full throtle, while carrying the little Fuecoco on her back. Once they had bridged the gap, the tiny red croc fired a Flamethrower, but it was not enough to melt the seemingly un-meltable ice.

Josh was Similar to her, yet different. With every step the Glastrier took, another layer of ice was added beneth its hooves. The Gym Leader, if anything, looked nowhere as excited as he should have been. This Glastrier was nowhere close to as fast as Hyida. He loved being recognized as the village's hero. It was what he always wanted to be. Without realizing it until Michael Navidson 's visit when he was not in great shape after the Dewford battle, what he had always been.

As his core temperature dropped from riding the Glastrier, he wanted off. But he could not; his clothes were frozen, stuck to the legendary Pokémon's freezing mane. Was it his patronage with Articuno that prevented Laurence Anderson from suffering a similar fate when he rode bareback?

"I guess I'm this Glastrier's Avatar now?" Josh joked, trying to keep a positive attitude as Andrea rode Gia alongside him. One thing was clear, though: this stallion was no replacement for Hylda.

The simulation states that the Pokemon is a Koraidon: a muscular, ferocious dragon able to break the earth with its fists. No other data exists pertaining to this Winged King. Curiously, it seems paired with you.[break][break]

A roar rattles down the tunnel. Another Koraidon stomps toward you in apex form, its fierce plume and twisted antennae flicking about like whips.[break][break]

You're in the middle of a territorial dispute and there's no way out.

"Not funny, Josh!" A crying Andrea retorted, distraught by the possibility that she might lose her friend forever to this stupid simulation. And yet, that was not to be his fate, for the royal steed suddenly disappeared, as did the ice keeping him eternally bound to it. "It's changing again?!"

Now they were inside a large grotto filled to the brim with Tera crystals, a mysterious, reptilian creature appearing beside them that vaguely looked like a Cyclizar, but not quite one. Its actual name flashed in front of them in floating, digital text.

"Koraidon? I've never seen this Pokémon before." The young PokéManiac muttered. Gia approached the larger lizard, sniffing it curiously. Koraidon sniffed the Cyclizar back, a happy growl bellowing from its air sac.

"Agias!"

The eccentric trainer smiled. "It's friendly!" She beamed, reaching out to pet their newfound, scaly friend. Jalapeño jumped off Gia's back, approaching Koraidon as well and trying to play tag with the quadruped dragon's tail.

A second, less friendly Koraidon lumbered towards the group. This specimen was even larger, walked on two legs instead of four, and had a rich plume of feathers atop its head like a native chief. The friendly Koraidon seemed to be scared of it, cowering behind the two humans. "Has that big Koraidon been bullying you?" Andrea asked.

Such a thing was not uncommon in nature. Survival of the fittest and all that. However, the way the bigger Koraidon used its size and strength to throw its weight around just didn't sit well with her. "Enough with the fighting! This cave is big enough for both of you! Why can't we all be friends here?" The girl yelled.

The Winged King refused to let its right to rule be challenged, roaring mightily. Harsh sunlight was reflected from the crystal walls, the temperature of the subterranean cavern rising drastically--feeling closer to the prehistoric jungle from the start of this simulation.

"Being big and tough doesn't give you the right to hurt others! RAWR!" Andrea roared back, raising her arms over her head to appear taller than she actually was. "Gia, Dragon Rush!" Her Cyclizar charged forth, while her Fuecoco used a Helping Hand to boost the whole team.
