On the other side of the field, the masked man readied another attack with the ease of an experienced mercenary. Swaying left then right then left then right, it became nearly impossible to follow the nimble movements. It was like a child attempting to match up to his senior. The disparity was far too large to easily bridge with Chi-Yu's powers alone.

At least, that was what she thought until her Blaziken reacted in her place, kicking up his leg to shoot out a more condensed version of STONE EDGE in front of her. It was a measure crafted with the means to defend, as well as warn.

Using what little time her partner had conjured up, the Coveted reached from the ocean now gurgling around her, raising it upward to scorch him alive.

Shadow swallowed flame as Talonflame and Mandibuzz dueled, vying for control of the skies. Blaziken conjured stone walls to defend against icy shrapnel.[break][break]

A strange thickness permeated the air as the other two Ruinous Avatars collided, frosted blade meeting impassive stone. Rather than the typical heat of battle, a different frenzy had replaced it -- something that overwhelmed the senses in its suffocating vastness.[break][break]

The insatiable tinge of ENVY spiced the air, leaving her dry and gasping for something to slake her sudden wanting.[break][break]

The biting chill of HATRED shivered through bare skin, as if all the world would punish them frozen if their blood dared to remain still.[break][break]

It stirred something dormant within her: a GRUDGE buried deep beneath the frozen earth, writhing and festering as it screamed for release.[break][break]

Didn't this woman deserve her punishment? Hadn't she been the arrogant one between them? Hadn't she told them she wished them to BURN?[break][break]

Elisabeth's hands tightened, suppressing this sadistic impulse as best as she could. Their presence alone awakened that unseen beast from within the cage of her mind, slithering back in with those tempting words. No, she willed herself, biting her lip. Not here. Not now.[break][break]

Then green eyes flitted up to catch the sight of jayden cross plunging forward in a gleaming arc of white metal, and the riot of flames that moved to engulf him whole burned through the last of her inhibitions.[break][break]

"LEAVE US!"
[break]

A guttural scream tore through bleak silence, the earth trembling and shaking underfoot as ugly black thorns snarled up from the ground between the Cursed and the Coveted. Like grasping fingers, embers caught between their brittle branches like a fiery moss, setting the entirety of this dying vegetation afire.[break][break]

The thicket of thorns disintegrated to ash slowly -- a burning bush that sacrificed its life for another.[break][break]

"HEED OUR WARNING. WE OUTNUMBER YOU HERE."

In the shadows, two ochre pinpricks of light flickered into existence, a name carved upon its back flaring back to life.

[break] Even without CHIEN PAO there to control his movements, Jayden was possessed. He moved as if he were connected together by the strings of a poisoned marionette, controlled by nothing other than his own HATEFUL emotions.

[break][break] He did not hear, he did not breathe, he did not feel anything except for the HATE that he felt for the woman in front of him, cloaked in brilliant flame that expelled outwards in a magnificent wave, threatening to swallow him whole.

[break][break] Behind those eyes of polished sapphire was the ghost of his past demons, the reminder of his father's control that birthed THEO BECKETT's ever-lasting resentment. The image of the Rocket Underboss commanding his own pokemon to attack him, to incinerate him in that infernal parade.

[break][break] It had almost killed him. The hatred, the resentment, the anger.

[break][break] And here he was again, willing to burn in PENELOPE LIVY's fire, for the sake of those convictions.

[break][break] For Rocket.

[break][break] For himself.

[break][break] "MATIAS SILPH, you're going to pay for what you did. I'll make sure you regret every breath you ever took," he snarled, a HATEFUL tornado of ice swirling around his blade as it slashes down in an arch of white metal against crumbling rock.

[break][break] "NOW DIE!"

jayden can conjure a cold or snowstorm that exudes an aura of hatred. targets caught within its radius are CONFUSED AND/OR BERSERK

[break] The CURSED'S decree screams through the air as ice and flames coalesce in the frozen tundra. Jayden inhales, feeling the burning edges lick old wounds, but before he can plunge himself into the madness, vines suddenly wrap around him. Ice-blue eyes widen with surprise, as Elisabeth Fiorelli saves him from further damage, taking the brunt of the flame as he throws himself to the side, swathed in snow.

[break][break] Belyi shouts with agony as the FLAME CHARGE slams into him and he is thrown back, claws sinking deep as he skids across the snow. Icy blue glimmers like starlight as his MIRROR COAT reacts in retaliation, surrounding itself in prismacolor before energy pulsates outwards towards the other in retaliation.

[break][break] As the attacks skyrocket above him, Jayden rolls to his feet. Crimson-stained snow rests beneath his feet as he takes in a sharp breath, focusing on the coolness of the ice around him to temper his emotions. Eventually, the blurry charades of MATIAS SILPH fall away to reveal someone else beneath his delusions, chipped away like shards of glass.

[break][break] Not MATIAS SILPH, but PENELOPE LIVY.

[break][break] "You will regret ever defying us today, Councilwoman," he murmured.

[break][break] Once again, HATRED brims in his eyes like a growing tide. Tiny swords flash into the air like daggers, swirling around him before shooting out towards the Councilwoman in an attempt to cut her into a thousand pieces.

[break][break] Echoing alongside Elisabeth Fiorelli, he shouts alongside her:

At the mention of his name something triggered deep inside, flaring up against her inner walls with frightening speed and terrifying strength.

But it wasn't the fact that it was him.

It wasn't even the deeds her memory obscured, or the time he'd discarded.

It had nothing to do with him and everything to do with the crime committed: the cruelty of mistaking her presence, in the wake of her blazing glory, with that of another. Especially with someone as treacherous to his own country as the very villains they fought. Eyes outstretched wide, magma singing, the councilwoman gritted her teeth.

She wanted nothing more to plunge their very souls into the deepest depths of hell. To ravage and ruin what's left of these very icelands, until only blood, mud, and iron smothered their bodies, leaving them primitive and vulnerable.

But she was outnumbered, nearly wounded, and heaving out air as quick as it comes.
[break][break]
"Big talk coming from someone's puppet," for a split second her eyes switched to Elisabeth Fiorelli, still ugly and distant, no different than their last encounter, "Better train him fast, Elisa, because next time I won't be alone and you won't be leaving alive."

With both arms rising to eye level, Penelope not only commanded her splotch of magma to bolster in height, but in width as well, all until a capricious wave divided their side of the land. One push, one step backward, and the wave was sent forth, creating the perfect distraction for her retreat.

"Run then, coward," she laughed, and there was a manic energy in the sound as she grinned wider, the earth around her shuddering as more thorny vines carved their way through the snow with snaking black tendrils. "Run far, far away, until you can't run from us anymore."[break][break]

What empty threats. What meaningless bluster.[break][break]

Envious beings were such shallow, short-sighted creatures.[break][break]

The waves of magma threatened towards them, but in the arrogance of her swelling power, Elisabeth didn't feel the fear the sensation would normally invoke in her. A thorny barrier rose to furiously meet it, confident for reasons unspoken that jayden cross would supplement whatever weakness those defenses possessed.[break][break]

HATRED and GRUDGES possessed a kinship stronger than that of other vices. It was an incestuous relationship, where one fed on the other to thrive.[break][break]

Her Mandibuzz and her Aromatisse's actions were lost to her comprehension, consumed as she was by the heady emotion that flowed through her. If Jayden were to look at her now, he'd seen an almost gleeful look on her face, with no trace of the restrained composure that had characterized her early on their training here.[break][break]

"Let them run," she said to him, and a thrilling undercurrent sang in the words. "It pleases us that they should run."[break][break]

It was a macabre excitement that wasn't strictly her own.

With each passing moment, his HATRED swelled, fueled by the unyielding GRUDGE that had been first borne within the confines of Dewford's Rifts, from his inaugural clash with Greyson Connors months prior.

[break][break] 'You are dog for Rocket — nothing more.'

[break][break] Within his heart, resentment burned. Resentment for the League, for MATIAS SILPH, for PENELOPE LIVY, for Greyson Connors. Towards all who dared to oppose Rocket's claim on the region, all who stood in the way of their relentless climb to glory.

[break][break] Try to make it out alive, Greyson Connors had once said. PENELOPE LIVY repeated that sentiment when she threatened both Ruinous Beasts, threatening their life as one.

[break][break] How might they feel now, when the sun eclipsed over the horizon, to know that it wouldn't matter. In life or in death, they would always prevail. HATRED and GRUDGE would forever burn in the darkness, as fire would always endure as long as there was a breath of winter's wind.

[break][break] As PENELOPE LIVY's flames scorched the snow below, Jayden recoiled. His gaze blazed with fury as she and her Pokemon vanished into the distance. Instead of triumph, all he felt was bitterness at her retreat.

[break][break] This was no victory.

[break][break] "We will finish them next time," he growled, eyes fiercely ablaze. The wintry white of his hair remained unchanged, refusing to revert back to it's former darkness as it may have done before. PENELOPE LIVY had scorched a reminder onto his heart, an indelible mark akin to the brand declan walsh's Darkrai had left on his skin.
