"I'm rooting for him to win the whole thing," he replied to the dragon master. "He's put in so much work to step up his game. I used to recommend so many new trainers to go to his Gym first. Haven't been doing so recently. He's too good now." Josh waved at Chomper and gave the green Hydreigon a gentle rub on the head if he allowed it.

Before long, they had both been called for their flight. They had even been paired with one another for the first round. "I had hoped we would meet in the finals so we could prize split, but the Great One seemed to have other ideas in mind." Clicking the switch on Raikiri's Poké Ball, the Zeraora emerged with a loud purr that Andrea may have been able to feel tingling from. The moment the starting horn sounded, the mythical thundercat took off like a lightning bolt, BOUNCING into Chomper in an effort to slam him into the rafters above.

The impact made even Josh flinch, the Gym Leader happy the construction of the venue was built with Pokémon combat in mind. The leap from below left both of them so high up that Josh had to step to the back of his Trainer's Box just to see the action. It was almost dizzying looking that high up into the sky, though he was used to viewing his environment through odd angles due to flying on his Dragonair.

With both combatants still stuck in the rafters, Raikiri pushed himself toward where several of them intersected, using quick electric discharges as thrust. Landing on ground as solid as could he up there, he leaped for Chomped again, his PLASMA PAWS discharging arcs of white electricity all around him. Were he to land on Chomper, the Zeraora would attempt to slam him into the ground, adding the relentless pull of gravity to the feline's strength.

Chomper's raw strength made the Hydreigon terrifying, and the added speed Andrea's Sygna Suit bestowed upon him speed to match the mythical cat's. The two mighty Pokémon clashed in a violent exchange of claws and fang blows, with no clear victor among them. Another blow like that, and Raikiri would not remain standing. "Get out of there!" Josh cried, Raikiri backing away from Chomper and into a corner. It was a tell that the feline and trainer were about to use the most devastating power in their arsenal.

Josh raised his Z-GLOVE above his head, it and the crystal of QUICKINIUM-Z hidden beneath Raikiri's fur gleaming a brilliant yellow. Wreathed in lightning bolts, the HYPERSONIC PLASMA CHARGE was all but checkmate if Chomper could not remain standing amidst its triple threat. The first: paws flying toward him too fast to see. The second: the matrix of lightning bolts surrounding the thundercat and his trail. The third: an aural explosion from the yellow Pokémon outrunning his own sound waves.

Raikiri plowed through stone after stone from Chomper's DRACO METEOR. Even after the supersonic strike, the lightning strikes, and the sonic boom, the Hydreigon was somehow still in the air. The Zeraora caught his breath after the Z-Powered exertion, giving Chomper time to recover, too.

The Gym Leader was getting into time trouble again, the final seconds winding down. He had to make a move before the clock expired. Chomper couldn't have much more in him, Josh judged. Even a simple QUICK ATTACK would do the job, he thought, then ordered. Raikiri dove for the three-headed dragon's sensitive belly, aiming to leave a wide scratch across it as he zipped past.

Raikiri slammed on the brakes, his paws nearly igniting from the friction burn when he saw Chomper fall backwards in dizziness. The match was over. The Master of Faster had prevailed over Hoenn's dragon champion, and Josh was on his way to claiming another relatively small check in his sweep of side events.

"Best of luck in any other events you and Chomper hop into," Josh said after the clock had stopped. "You and Chomper are tough - you just happened to run into a Gym Leader that didn't do as well in the big tournament." His serious look turned into a big smile. "See you at the airport, Andrea! Next time we meet, we'll be on the way to Sinnoh!"
