"Ollie!" Lutgarde calls out as they see a familiar face amongst the people participating, "and Tofu. You're taking part in the tournament as well?" They walk over with a big grin, their black-red dyed Sylveon Sylv as always with his ribbon wrapped around their wrist. However, they stop a couple of steps before the duo, not approaching fully - already anticipating the battle that'd come, most likely, seeing as they both also have the gear equipped for this tournament.

Sylv coos in greeting, tilting his head ever so slightly.

"The one and only," Lutgarde replies with a grin, returning the shoulder clasp with as much gusto as given. "Only recently. Didn't think there'd be a tournament at my doorstep when I show up here," they laugh, before nodding with a smirk. "Let's have Sylv and Tofu meet up first, eh?"

Sylv chirps happily at Tofu in greeting, letting his ribbons flutter and reach out- but he holds back before he could actually touch the Pikachu, unsure if this is the right time for an emotional read, even if habitual. As their trainers have cleared the battlefield, Sylv shakes himself once, twice - and lunges into a Quick Attack!

[break][break] Tofu gave a sound of acknowledgement, leaping excitedly towards the center of the field. Despite how many battles he'd already done, it seemed that the rat was more than excited for the challenge. After all, so far, after every fight there had been the guarantee of a sweet treat. This shouldn't have been any different, right?

[break][break] Eyes widen at the other's QUICK ATTACK — it happens so immediately that he has no choice but to be thrown back. Tofu skids backwards, making tracks in the dirt, as he tries to stop himself from flipping off the combat circle.

[break][break] "C'mon Tofu! Electro Ball!"

[break][break] A crackling sphere glows in the center of the field, the reflection of Tofu's smug face. Then with a slap, the Pikachu knocks it back towards his pokemon in a dangerous game of catch.

Sylv doesn't let Tofu much room to breathe, but the Pikachu returns that in kind. The Electro Ball's smug face catches the Sylveon off-guard. Lutgarde, on the other hand, grins upon seeing the ball coming flying, being reminded of the made-up games and sports they used to play when they were younger.

Truly a way to make a mid-twenties feel old.

"Send a Light Screen, throw it back!" they say, and if they were actually younger, even their trusted companion would look at them with disbelief. As bonded as they are now, however, the Sylveon leaps into action, trusting their trainer as they set up a Light Screen similiar to a net, so the Electro Ball would bounce off of it.

[break][break] Growling with annoyance, the Pikachu leaps forward. His tiny paws press tight against the pavement, body trembling with the effort, when the earth suddenly shakes with movement. Water leaks beneath the gravel, lifting a sudden SURF that is pushed towards the Sylveon to consume him.

The sudden appearance of water makes Sylv jump into the air, but only that wouldn't do - the battlefield's about to be flooded! He throws a Light Screen below him, in the hopes of using it as a surfboard momentarily, and then as a stepping stone to accelerate enough for a Quick Attack! If he wouldn't end up in the waves, after all.

"Not a Vaporeon, I'm afraid," Lutgarde replies to the tease with a grin, which earns a bit of a side-eye from Sylv. "Don't wanna paint the water black red by accident." Truly, if Sylv had chosen the Vaporeon route, they would've gotten more experimental with way more dyes ...

The Iron Tail coming at Sylv is enough to send the Sylveon back, but he makes sure to at least get a bit of an impact in. "Hey, Sylv's not a ball!" they call out, the feigned indignation betrayed by a bit of a smirk. Bouncing back, Sylv puts quite some effort into landing on his paws, before sprinting forward again, using Quick Attack another time!

Sylv is Lutgarde's dearest, which gives them an additional awareness that, while lovely like many other Sylveon, Sylv is also irritable and a drama queen. At Ollie's words, he seems to puff his cheeks a bit mid-run, and adds another edge to his Quick Attack - more power, more speed, more ...

Hit by the Discharge, Sylv finds himself flying in the air again. He lands with some difficulty on his paws, letting out an indignant huff. "Oh no, now you've done it," Lutgarde says, not being able to hide a bit of a smirk - they know the two pokémon would get along again after the battle ... or so they hope.

For now, Sylv doesn't approach again, and insteads sings with a Disarming Voice - returning, at least on the surface, to a mellow, soothing song.

[break][break] So in contrast to the other's indignance, the rat is decidingly smug as he sees his attack make it's mark. Which makes it all the worse for when the DISARMING VOICE sings through the air.

[break][break] Thinking quick, Ollie raises his arm to trigger his Dynamax evolution. As light swirls powerfully around the Pikachu, tripling him in size, he hopes it'll be enough to take in the incoming damage.

Sylv as well as Lutgarde both stare as Tofu suddenly ... triples in size. They haven't seen that yet at all, and just ... "Holy shit," Lutgarde murmurs, with a grin apparent below the awe.

Sylv takes this less with admiration, and considers it fuel to his stubbornness - raising the volume of his voice, more and more, adding an inviting tone to it so Tofu would please come and see eye-level with him pretty please, and all that. (He is not entirely sure if this is how it works, but he's adamant on believing it for the moment.)

The fight's called over, too, as Lutgarde also sees that Tofu's counter drops to 0. Waiting a moment for Tofu to become normal-sized again, Lutgarde and Sylv- well, Sylv half-collapses as soon as the battle's over, so they call him back to his ball for a brief moment. "Goddamn, you really kept your surprise for the very end, huh?" they laugh, "You really gotta get me up to speed with what happened there. But I can see how Hoenn keeps you," they add with a fond smirk.
