She blinked rainwater from her lashes, her surprise immediate and self-evident as he stepped towards her. "You mean now?" she blurted out, caught off-guard. "People usually give more notice than this."[break][break]

Two competing instincts manifested at once. The first was resistance to further giving into how Matias wanted things, when he wanted them. The second, inexplicably, was annoyance at arriving for such an event unprepared.[break][break]

She fixed him with a disapproving look, 'excitement' not even remotely visible in her expression.[break][break]

"I haven't even agreed yet, and you're already planning everything." She exhaled deeply, his persistence somehow always throwing her despite it being the most consistent thing about him. "I'm not opposed to it, exactly. But we'll have to be smart about how we do it, not... impulsive."[break][break]

Was he even capable of waiting for delayed gratification?

She'd braced herself for the typical wheedling back-and-forth she'd come to expect from him; he always seemed so loathe to let her ever leave his side, as if he understood how prone she was to disappearing into thin air.[break][break]

How much of that was his own personality, and how much of it was him becoming alarmingly perceptive about her own?[break][break]

This time, however, he shrugged and surrendered with ease.[break][break]

"It's unlike you to concede," she said, grateful and suspicious alike as she released her Butterfree from a Pokeball. At first she moved slowly, waiting for the inevitable protest as the Bug-type flitted closer to her, but inexplicably he seemed unbothered by her hasty exit.[break][break]

"I will meet up with you later," she said at length, her voice softening a bit at his seemingly newfound patience. "And we will do dinner eventually. I promise."[break][break]

Though she had no intention of it being that night as she let the TELEPORT whisk her away to her Sootopolis apartment.

was it not mere moments ago that they discussed the impossibility of him ever conceding? even to her, it seems that may never change, his words nothing more than half-truths to placate in the short-term; the long-term can be worried about later.[break][break]

he imagines he will need to find a craftier way to quell her anger. it's a shame he won't have much time.[break][break]
