The ground level of Mount Pyre’s caverns was occupied with those still bound to the mortal coil. Living, breathing, warm humans, filled with crimson fluid, pumping organs and lively brains. Suffice to say, they were the absolute last thing the noise was concerned with. It was the sound of a cello, its mournful strings crying down from the third floor of the burial grounds. Yet, those on the lowest floor could not possibly hear it. The brick and earth of the very mountain would not allow such a thing.[break][break]

Yet for those motivated enough to climb, the mournful dirge would tickle their ears and flirt around the edge of their senses, a funerary song delivered too late for the vast majority of those interred here. Ah but the song, oh the song, had a purpose: Disturbing the dead. Awakening them from their slumber, stirring them from their graves, clawing their consciousness back to the land of the living. So what if they took the form of Pokemon?[break][break]

The crying of her bow upon the strings of her cello were like music to the ears of one Pokemon, a happy and joyful seeming Shuppet, floating and spinning through the air around its trainer. It was enjoying their time, finding the familiar notes scratching through the wind comforting and yet…its trainer’s expression was different. Svetlana’s eyes were closed, her mind focusing on the instrument, her expression apathetic and neutral.[break][break]

“Come…awaken forlorn spirits.” It was the only words she would say, the cry of her dirge reaching its apex, the notes rising and climbing before ending with a heavy weight that would settle within the souls of whoever her audience happened to be. Grudges were but a chain and chains were heavy, for what else but the most heavy of emotions could bind the deceased to the world?

After the heavy losses he had suffered in Oldale's Silent Icelands, Josh descended upon the southern docks of Mount Pyre. Seated on the back of a Dragapult, the swift, slithering serpent gently circled downward in an effort to make the landing as smooth as possible. There was a time and a place to zoom across Hoenn and whoop at the top of his lungs amidst an adrenaline high. This was not one of them; the mountain was a sacred place. He had been there many times, the rift to the Border pulsating before him, almost beckoning him to enter now. He had to go there with a very special set of Pokémon, though. Ones equipped to deal with the harsh atmosphere, and most importantly, the spirits of legendary Pokémon holding his deceased Gym Trainers' souls hostage.

As he floated above the surface, he clicked the rest of the Poké Balls on his belt open, an entire pride of saddled Pyroar emerging. All five wept for the trainer's heavy losses. Slider had perished in combat in Dewford, and it was only now he was able to return to the solemn location. "Today, we pay our respects to Slider the Braviary," Josh solemnly said, the Shiny male leader of the pride and another male standing next to him shedding particularly mournful tears.

Vitani and Zira, two of the newer females, seemed less interested in mourning and more interested in the song that @svetlanakuznetsov was singing. The two slowly walked closer, not intending to disturb the young lady, though their purring may have done so without intent.

Even with her eyes closed, she sensed the presence of the two Pokemon watching her before she saw them, her eyes opening slowly but surely. Her gaze came to rest on her audience, the two Pyroroars occupying the majority of her field of view. Her music had stopped at this point, the song having come to an end, and yet her gaze had moved past the twin lions towards the rest of their pride and the human leading them.[break][break]

“Thank you for your rapt attention my audience but alas, it seems the curtain must fall.” What necessitated her audience being denied any chance at an encore? Why, it was simple: Pokemon had appeared. Not the ones Svetlana was looking for mind you but Pokemon nonetheless and one of them was even a psychic type. An Alakazam to be exact. How fortuitous.[break][break]

“Oh?...My audience expands. Muppet, would you be so kind as to weaken them for me?” The little Shuppet, having been floating and twirling around Svetlana’s head, immediately launched a wisp of purple flame towards the Alakazam, burning it with Will-O-Wisp. After which, Svetlana would casually throw a Pokeball towards the psychic type.

Josh caught sight of Vitani and Zira curiously approaching a stranger that seemed to stop in the regal felines' presence. He sighed as he reined Sidewinder, his Dragapult steed, toward the girl. "Sorry if my girls bothered you," Josh apologized. "Elite Ranger Devlin or Gym Leader Devlin, but please, call me Josh. Vitani and Zira didn't mean any harm." Sidewinder was content to hover where he was at, Josh tilting his head to the side to make eye contact with Svetlana.

As he listened for a response, his eyes tilted toward the dangerous rift near the mountain's peak. It would not be long before he traversed to its other side alongside Thomas Benoit , on a mission to free the soul of former Interim Gym Leader SHAWN RICHARDS whose life had been taken from him too soon.

“Oh do not worry. I will never reject an audience who appreciates my work.” She resumed her playing, scratching out a series of harsh and sharp notes, instructions for her Shuppet given out not in the form of dialogue but in notes. It had been highly difficult for her to actually train her Shuppet to tell the notes apart and associate them with commands but in the few Pokemon battles she had, they proved immensely useful. She really should catch herself a Chatot one of these days….[break][break]

Speaking of capturing Pokemon, Svetlana’s eyes darted up, watching the ball rock and shake, the red and white orb rolling around on the ground until…there was a click. A click that resounded out throughout the floor, signifying that the Alakazm had fallen and been captured. The little Shuppet, ever happy and playful, scooped the Pokeball up and flew back to Svetlana, dropping it upon her lap. Yet, it seemed yet more Pokemon wished to partake in the concert.[break][break]

However, out of these additional Pokemon Svetlana’s attentions were locked exclusively upon one of them: A Chandlure. Definitely a Pokemon that aligned with her tastes and so, it should have been no surprise that another series of sharp notes spurred Svetlana’s partner to action. The Shuppet danced and twirled, spinning around the Chandelure, throwing a shadow ball towards the chandelier Pokemon to weaken them. Hopefully it would not one shot.[break][break]

Second stanza, same as the first, Svetlana threw a Pokeball towards the ghost type, hoping to capture them and add them to her collection.

As Josh listened to the symphony Svetlana her and her Pokémon were creating, Josh set Sidewinder's reins down and began slapping his hands against his upper legs to the beat, as though he were playing bongos. He couldn't help but add in some quick drum fills. The musician and her Shuppet's orchestra made the lions tear up, mourning for their loss. Not of the Braviary, but of the two Pyroar that didn't make it in the Silent Icelands. "Nala and Rani, too... I'll never forget you."

Once Svetlana was done, Josh couldn't help but ask for an introduction. "You're not bad at all! What's your name, if I may ask?" Regardless of whether or not he got it, he then asked the next natural question. "So what brings you out here? Did you, too, lose a Pokémon in the war?"

“Mmm. It is not a name of any real importance. I am simply a musician passing by, my calling and my identity.” She deflected the question, casually shaking it off, for after all…Joshua was a Gym Leader. An agent of the League. An enemy to Team Rocket. In truth, Svetlana cared infinitely little about the conflict between the two groups, her allegiance to Rocket being entirely a matter of money. Musician was hardly the most financially stable career after all.[break][break]

“What brings me here…? Nothing. No sense of loss, no departed companion, no lost friend. Mount Pyre is simply a suitable place to practise. I find the Pokemon here are…ah. A moment please.” She scratched another harsh note on her cello, grating and cutting, and commanded one of her partner Pokemon to attack. The Bagon blasted a gout of heat from their maw, belching fire and brimstone, at the Frillish.[break][break]

With a casual flick of the wrist, Svetlana launched another Pokeball towards the Frillish, seeking to entrap it within the confines of the red and white sphere. Only then would her attention return back to the Gym Leader, apathetic and seemingly disinterested gaze glazing over his form.[break][break]

“More often than not, I find the spirits of Mount Pyre a suitable audience…excluding the occasional demands for an encore.” Svetlana’s voice was hollow, her tone was cold, her cadence of speech was deliberate and drawn out, adopting a strange rhythm that was intentionally discordant.[break][break]

“But…I do believe what little window of time I had has now passed. I would not want to disappoint Team Rocket after all.” A knowing grin, sly and cheeky, flashed across her face. It was the truth presented as a joke, a joke so obviously made up and so obviously fictitious that there was absolutely no way it could be true. After all, what sort of fool would reveal the worked for Team Rocket to a Gym Leader’s face? She rose to her feet, brushing her clothing down, and stored her cello back within its case. Said case she would slip over her shoulders before turning to leave, twisting on her heels, and making her way down to the ground floor of the mountain.
