she’d been summoned. she did not know why specifically, but assumed it had to do with recent events involving white kyurem and hoopa.[break][break]

it was not the legendaries, but the impressive and alarming sight of the tera crystal as the ground had ripped open that had stuck in her mind since that day. that, and the sight of so many paradox pokemon pouring from the chasm.[break][break]

would they see more machines modeled after their gods? they seemed just as powerful as the originals. surely, it was too much power to exist all in one place.[break][break]

while pondering, she waited at the start of route 121, where they’d agreed to meet, at the end closest to sootopolis. a shadow houndoom accompanied her, patient and quiet at her heel.[break][break]

Zev's Gengar, Smoke, led the way down Route 121 toward the rendezvous spot. In the distance, the looming silhouette of Mt. Pyre stood ominously upon the horizon. The Rocket Beast glanced briefly at it before turning his attention back to the road. [break][break]

Ahead, Lulu Flint waited, her Shadow Houndoom at her side. [break][break]

"Flint," Zev said in greeting once he was within speaking distance. Smoke floated over to the other Pokémon, grinning and wiggling his ears in obvious amusement. [break][break]

Reaching into his pocket, Zev pulled out a pack of cigarettes. "Are you fully recovered from the battle at the Silent Icelands?" he asked, recalling that she'd been a target of one of Hoopa's fists. [break][break]

It was an attempt at small talk, easing into the conversation the way he had when pretending to be someone friendly. [break][break]

He supposed he still was pretending.

Zev nodded at Lulu's answer. She'd recovered enough on the battlefield to run at the new chasm filled with Tera crystals, so the punch must not have hurt her too badly. [break][break]

"Nenet is recovering similarly," he said, absently turning to watch Lulu's Houndoom as it tangled with a wild Drowzee. "She took a fist to the head, but her helmet absorbed most of the blow." [break][break]

A familiar annoyance rose in him at the memory of the woman getting hit. Shoving the frustrating thoughts away, he redirected the topic of conversation. [break][break]

"Have you gotten in touch with her about the Minior?" [break][break]

Nearby, a Lunatone floated close to the group, drawing the attention of his Gengar. Smoke fixed it with a MEAN LOOK, allowing Zev to throw a Pokéball.

Lulu's theory sparked a curiosity about the Minior that Zev hadn't possessed before. Up until that moment, he viewed them as Pokémon like any other. The one covered in black moss had been a unique anomaly, but one whose existence had not interested him once he confirmed Necrozma had no interest, either. [break][break]

But perhaps they did collect pieces of other worlds as they flew through space. Did that include Ultra Space? Did they witness and know things other beings knew nothing about, despite their fleeting lives? [break][break]

Could he use them against the DRK Triad? [break][break]

"Do you recall the symbol we showed you a few months ago?" Zev asked, expecting Lulu to remember. His skin itched at the memory. A few crystals bloomed across his skin, unbidden. [break][break]

"When we destroyed the Megalopolans' weapon, something flew from it. Multiple things. Unfortunately, they were too far away and too small for me to see them clearly." [break][break]

Sudden movement from his Gengar drew the man's attention. The ghost zipped toward a shiny wild Duosion that had appeared, startling it with HEX. Zev observed the scuffle but did not act at first, feeling suddenly displaced from the present moment. [break][break]

And then the sensation passed, and he tossed a Pokéball at the fallen Psychic-type.

Zev nodded. "Yes. Finding and obtaining them could allow us to learn more about that weapon. Not just how the Megalopolans made it, but how it works." [break][break]

The image of the strange symbol set against the moon was stark in his mind's eye. The Megalopolans were an intelligent species; the tower's alignment with that celestial body had not been a coincidence. [break][break]

He glanced sidelong at Lulu. "What about your own research? Does it have to do with the Tera crystals in that chasm that appeared?" he asked, finally broaching the topic to satisfy his curiosity. [break][break]

The way she had sprinted at the fissure despite orders to retreat suggested great importance. But Tera crystals had been appearing throughout Hoenn for months; their effects were well-documented. What else, then, did she hope to learn?
