The Dream Must End

The promise was made. There was little truly binding the Explorer to their word - but they chose to keep it, telling their superiors they'd merely uncovered the chart themselves.

And true to the construct's word, they'd receive said starcharts. The planets within varies in terms of resources and habitability, none as appealing as the world before them.

A world that was left out of those charts.

The construct seemed ready to head back to its original position - until the Explorer asked it one final question. The answer wasn't immediate, five seconds passing before it spoke.

BY PROTECTING WHAT'S LEFT AND PRESERVING THEIR MEMORY. HAD I THE MEANS TO CREATE ANEW, I WOULD.

There would be another pause before it spoke again - for the last time.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOUR COOPERATION. NOW LEAVE, AND NEVER RETURN.

With that, the construct floated away, leaving the Explorer alone once more. Their duty was done, their job complete.

She programs the coordinates into her ship computer, and opens up her comms. The brass awaits her. Somehow, she doesn't dread that nearly as much after this meeting. [break][break]

She makes something up. A hidden information cache on a derelict spacecraft, which pointed the way to a new star system. It feels too convenient, like it's something made-up for the sake of a video game plot. Even so, technically, it's true enough. All the details of her meeting with the artificial moon are left out of the official reports. [break][break]

The explorer heads out into the stars, to chart a new beginning for her people. [break][break]

It's Time To Wake Up

And with that, the Explorer made their exit, their Spaceship racing through the stars. Never to see the Construct again. Their parting words would go unanswered.

When it came time to explain what they had found, they gave it: that they'd merely found a cache within an abandoned ship. A convenient excuse, perhaps, one that could be scrutinized if one chose to.

But who would be able to disprove it? The Explorer alone found the planet, the Construct, and they alone knew the truth. They knew of the perfect world, better than the many worlds contained within those charts.

They alone knew of the Construct's rose.

And they would not have others trample upon its garden.

Tsubaki's exit from the dream was just as abrupt as it had started, sitting just as she'd been as she started, once more within the Gym room. The Dream Mist the two Musharna had let out was being filtered away by a Galarian Weezing, reality becoming clear once more. A small *thump* could be heard as Hideo closed the book.

"Did you enjoy your Journey Amongst The Stars?" he asked, a smile on his face. "You did a good job! The endless sea of stars could contain and endless number of things, and you managed to find what you were looking for! And you did so while respecting the Construct's wishes."

Hideo lifted his book up, a Elgyem lifting it up psychically and placing it aside.

"Now then: do you have any questions about your journey? Was there anything you would've done differently if given the chance?"

A dream, that's all it had been.[break][break]

"... I'd change nothing. Everyone's deserving of a place to call home."[break][break]

The little prince didn't deserve to have his home invaded when there was no room. The construct's wishes didn't deserve to be disrespected, even if there was as much room as could be had. None of them deserved to have their homes taken from them, for the sake of someone else. She grimaces, remembering, suddenly, the reason why the Explorer was so adamant in that fact. [break][break]

Her roots in Kanto, acrid smoke and a distinctive metallic tang on her tongue... [break][break]

"Far as questions, Kino. I just got one: you won't tell anyone what you saw in that dream, will you?"[break][break]

She was sure he'd seen more than she'd bargained for. Her inner thoughts, her remorse, her past... her true self, reflected in that Explorer he lead through that odyssey. It pained her. [break][break]

Hideo nodded as Tsubaki gave her answer, a smile on his face.

"I guess that's fair enough. You did pretty well in managing yourself in strange situations. And you were able to recognize the meaning in all the ordeals you faced, that everyone has things that are special to them. A rose, so to speak."

And she'd chosen not to trample on those roses. He wouldn't have failed her if she had, but it was good to know under her rough exterior, she was a good person.

When she made her request, Hideo put a finger up to his mouth. "Of course I won't," he promised. "This challenge will be kept confidential. What's important was that you managed to find your way through this ordeal, and perhaps you learned something about yourself along the way."

Hideo reached into his pocket, taking out and offering a badge.

"That's why you've earned the Ordeal Badge today."
