Oscar chuckled as he adjusted his helmet, a blank visor masking his face from prying eyes. "I have us covered. Have a little faith in me won't ya?" Oscar felt as though he had a bit to prove after his recent fuck up at the Ultra Plant. Up until then he had been consistent, but the monumental size of his fuck up had him anxious that Howard now saw him as a liability.

He sought to prove otherwise, thus he brought his A-game to today's project. Oscar was letting Howard monitor the drill, meanwhile he was circling around the perimeter in search of possible interlopers. Their drill was not exactly subtle, so Oscar just assumed that it would only be a matter of time before some League 'hero types' would try to step in.

Oscar was not using only his eyes alone. He had Genesect Prime in the sky (Magnet Rise), patrolling in its hover form. It was likely that Prime would probably notice something approaching before Oscar, though at the moment it had spotted nothing beyond wild pokemon. Still it was vigilant, and the cybernetic sentinel would be ready for action at a moment's notice.

As Oscar came back up on Howard, he would make an observation. "I gotta admit I'm a little on edge. It's too still out there, and we're more than a little out in the open." Oscar cracked his neck and rolled his shoulders, "Still, I think we're well set up to defend. Just gotta stay ready for surprises." Oscar scanned around before moving to patrol again. He would not let the League ruin their plans, not today.

Arceus above, though. The drill was loud. Someone could probably hear it all the way from Oldale. Rustboro used them fairly often, before the mines had dried up, according to Professor Pierce Creighton of Rustboro. Howard hadn't seen the professor since the Three Days War. It seemed like a distant dream.

"My Sigilyth are around somewhere. Should be on recon." Howard said non-committedly as he went back to inspecting the rock structure. It was still stable, good. Rocket could extract every piece of valuable ore from the earth, but if the cliff collapsed, it wouldn't mean much. "I haven't..."

He trailed off as he peered into the distance, helmet glinting as he did so. Were those people on the horizon? "What the...?"

Behind Roy, a Sigilyth appeared, having detected the intruders quickly. The ancient sentinel had been given orders by its master to ensure that the area was not disturbed.

Long ago, it had failed in its duty. Not again.

Its eye glowed with a violet hue as it used Psychic to pick up several boulders and toss them at the dragon trainer.

As Howard trailed off, Oscar looked at him before following his gaze out toward the horizon. Figures had appeared in the distance, an inevitability given how loud the drill's presence were. "Maybe they're friendly." Oscar said sarcastically, watching as Howard's sigilyph made the first move. Oscar pressed a button on the side of his helmet, opening a comm line between him and Genesect Prime.

"Prime, please bring us the intruders here so that we may strap them to the drill." Prime had been staring at the strangers as they became visible, waiting for orders to obliterate them. Capturing them worked too, whatever it took to let loose some energy. Genesect flew in over the interlopers, aiming its cannon toward the one that was not being attacked by sigilyph.

Its barrel sparked before firing out a net, which bloomed in mid-air as it flew toward its target. The mesh sparked and crackled, promising a terrible jolt should it envelope its target (Electro Web). Meanwhile, Oscar looked to the drill as it started making a bizarre grinding noise. "Um, that doesn't sound normal. Is the machinery getting jammed?"

The grinding of a drill was an awful sound. When it jammed, it turned into a cacophony of sounds that could shatter bedrock. It was downright unpleasant to behold, and it made Howard want to throw himself off a cliff. His death would be quicker and less painful that way.

Nonetheless, Howard worked with drills. Rustboro had been a prominent mining town at one point. The grinding sound was familiar, yet distinct.

"We've hit bedrock. No, wait." He cocked his head as he turned from the fight to listen to the drill. "Tera Crystals. I'll bring the drill up and restart."

As an afterthought, Howard reached for his belt and picked up a Pokeball stained with frost. The raw power in the Pokeball was apparent, and Oscar had also seen this Pokeball in the Ultra Plant. It was Admin Fox's strongest Pokemon, a golem of another time and era.

"Here. You might need it." Howard tossed the Pokeball to Oscar as he ran to the drill. "Don't lose it. I want it back."

Sigilyth took the Flare Blitz hard, crashing into a wall as it did so. Its wings fluttered weakly as it glared at Pistachio and Balmung. Psychic energy raged as the two dragons felt as Gravity pushed them down.

Oscar was relieved to hear that Howard knew exactly how to solve their problem. His relief turned right back into stress as Howard tossed the frosty ball of Regice to Oscar. Oscar yelped as he tried to catch the unexpected loan, batting the slippery ball between his hands before finally catching it between both. Oscar nervously beheld the ball as Howard went off to fix the drill.

"I--um--are you sure?" Howard would not hear, he was already working on the drill. Oscar turned his attention back to the fighting, hoping that he would not have to resort to using the legendary golem.

Prime had managed to bag its catch, and it would track Ollie as he fell down the cliff. All it would have to do now was grab the net and take it back to its master, an objective that should hypothetically simple. Of course it knew better than to rely on odds alone, which is why it was not surprised when a charizard came charging its way.

Prime began doing calculations. It did not have enough time to dodge the entire attack, so it would have to be hit in a way that would minimize potential damage. It had to factor in the charizard's cowl of flame, as that was sure to cause immense physical trauma no matter where it hits. Perhaps if it tilted at the right angle, Prime could take the hit and retaliate?

The genesect was nearly ready to attempt its plan, when its Sigilyth ally appeared to take on the attack instead. Prime was surprised, but more than grateful to avoid what would have been a devastating blow. It immediately disengaged, floating toward where it had last spotted its electrified prisoner.

As Ollie was located, Prime would also spot the other ranger running to his aid. Prime saw its chance to bag two rangers at once, that would surely please its master! However, before it could fire its net, Prime would find itself abruptly being pulled to the ground. No matter how much it revved its engine, Prime would not be able to gain altitude. It eventually gave in, unfurling into its combat form so that it may dramatically land with one claw slamming into the ground to lessen the impact of its descent.

As it stood to its full height, Prime would find itself conveniently positioned between Ollie and Roy. Prime would turn to face Roy fully, firing an electrified net at his position (Electro Web).

In retrospective, Howard realized as he looked upon the drill, it would've been better to send Oscar back here. He was more familiar with machinery.

Oscar was the stronger trainer, though. When your weakest link was so fragile, it was best to set him out of the way as to not cause the chain to shatter. Besides, watching an admin fall on the battlefield would be bad for morale.

"Bringing it up!" Howard's voice barely rang over the sound of the industrial drill boring into the earth. All Howard could think about while he pulled a lever on the console was how expensive this thing was. Bringing it out into Area Zero had been a waste of time and men.

It had to be defended.

Dirt pushed up and covered Oscar's feet as the drill bit emerged from the ground.

Meanwhile, Balmung defied the divine concept known as gravity. 9.8 meters per second squared amplified exponentially, yet the dragon's raw power threatened to rewrite the physics book by burning it to ash. The Sigilyth blasted Balmung with even more bursts of enhanced gravity.

Gravity. Balmung flew forward. Gravity. Its momentum was slowing down. Gravity. Balmung's blazing comet reflected in the eye of the Sigilyth as it-

The Sigilyth fell to the ground, burned, blackened, utterly defeated.

The second ranger was saved from Prime's net by his dragonite ally. It was a setback, but Prime felt indifferent. Battles were built on maneuvers and counter maneuvers, all that mattered was it being the one left standing when the dust settled. As the second ranger mega-evolved his charizard, Prime predicted that the false-dragon would attempt to clash once more. However, a curve ball was thrown instead. The charizard went after sigilyph, which would provide Prime with precious seconds to plan its next move.

Prime's head turned toward its first target, and to its surprise the trapped ranger had brought out a tyrantrum. This was an undesirable development. Prime was sure that it would be forced to fight three on one, and began Downloading the data it had observed so far to adjust its combat capabilities.

Maybe it would have been able to take the trio head-on, but we shall not know. The tyrantrum opened with a shattering Earthquake, and there was no way to avoid it. The Genesect tried only once to defy gravity with Magnet Rise, and when it failed to transform it would simply accept the attack. The Earthquake blew Prime back, sending it up the cliff side and then back down again. By the time it fell back into a static position, Prime was not in great shape. Its armor was dented and worn, but it probably would have been smashed apart completely if not for its earlier Download. Prime shakily pushed itself up onto its claws and knees before mysteriously dissolving into the shadows of the cliff.

Oscar watched carefully from afar. The Earthquake was not ideal, but at least the tyrantrum's allies would feel the pain too thanks to Gravity. From his left side, Oscar's shadow would suddenly flare. The silhouette bulged and warped as Prime clawed its way out of the darkness, rising on shaky legs to stand alongside its master (Shadow Sneak). Oscar kept his eyes on the rangers. "Good attempt Prime, but sometimes shit just doesn't work out." Oscar raised the frosted pokeball, sighing heavily as he came to terms with what he must do.

The pokeball opened, unleashing a gust of chilled wind across the area. Regice would emerge, no doubt confused by why Howard was not the one holding its pokeball. Oscar addressed the golem, "Hey, I don't know if you can even understand me but Howard's busy and we need your help. See those goons over there?" Oscar pointed toward the rangers. "We need them to piss off. Or die. Or--whatever gets them not to be here anymore. Shouldn't be hard if we work together, what do you say?"
