There were more PARADOX POKEMON here, in AREA ZERO, than the entirety of what Barnaby had experienced over the last year. Swarms and swarms of them threatened to overwhelm ROCKET's expeditions into this foreign place.[break][break]

So, checkpoints had been created along established routes within the GIANT CHASM and AREA ZERO — fortified areas manned by strong trainers and Pokémon to hold back the hordes of abominations.[break][break]

For now, all was quiet.[break][break]

Arceus. What a spectacular conversationalist.[break][break]

How was Barnaby supposed to pass the time on patrol like this?? Silence had its place, but this was downright boring. Even CHIEN-PAO, the embodiment of hatred itself, was just sniffing around like some housecat. [break][break]

"I'll take that as a no." Barnaby sighed, keeping pace alongside jayden cross. [break][break]

"Anyway, the noise happens regardless of Pokémon type or species. It's connected to the Tera crystals, somehow. At first I thought it was just a byproduct of the transformation, but..."[break][break]

As they walked, their reflections followed in the myriad crystals embedded to the rock here.[break][break]

"It sounds so much like a living thing."[break][break]

Speaking of, a telltale rumbling began in the levels below them. Barnaby hadn't heard it yet, but perhaps more sensitive senses could pick it up.[break][break]

He blinked.

[break][break] It took Jayden a moment to realize — BARNABY FINCH was neither fern delaney nor mint frost. Unlike Fern, the other admin could not simply read his thoughts as long as he willed it to be. And unlike Mint, he would not simply fill in the empty space with words of his own.

[break][break] "A living thing?" he echoed, head tilted to the side. Following the other's gestures, the Cursed glanced back at the glimmering crystals. He tried to remember the last time that he had a pokemon Teracrystallize, but could not recall if there were any sounds that accompanied it.

[break][break] His words were cut off briefly as a sudden ARIADOS web appeared in front of him. Reflexively, a dagger flashed into his hand to cut down it's gossomer threads.

[break][break] "Sorry," he said, a bit of the material still clinging to his cheek. "You said that the sound was a living thing. What makes a sound alive?"

[break][break] The admin himself could barely feel his own beating heartbeat these days. He could not imagine a world in which a sound could possibly embody it better. As he considered this, he glanced briefly when Chien Pao suddenly perked up. Muscles rippling with a tension suddenly in it's shoulders, before it flashes it's teeth and disappeared into the slope of the depths below.

Perhaps this conversation would be better had with one of their scientists.[break][break]

Though he himself was someone who was somewhat involved in the field of science, by virtue of his upbringing, he had never felt as much kinship with the field unlike his sister Naomi Sato who seemed to take to it like a fish to water.

Suddenly, a loud bellowing sound cut off BARNABY FINCH mid-sentence. From the gloom a rumbling came — a myriad of clamoring footfalls, all making their way up, up, up.[break][break]

"Going left." The admin instantly informed jayden cross before pivoting to a more tactical position.[break][break]

Within moments a swarm of IRON HANDS had crested a hill and were charging forward, unusually irate. Something had agitated them, apparently, and they weren't about to stop their rampage anytime soon.[break][break]

BARNABY FINCH's NINETALES sprung into action, her DROUGHT ability allowing her to instantaneously arc a SOLAR BEAM through a row of IRON HANDS.

Conversation is cut off at the sound of enemies approaching and Jayden nods imperceptibly as his fellow admin vanishes to a more tactical location. While the propaganda admin disappears to the shadows, Rocket's admin of offense does not move. He is not budge from his location, simply drawing on the HATEFUL power within him as THEO BECKETT and Elisabeth Fiorelli had taught him how to do.

[break][break] Though the sudden DROUGHT that appeared in the area drew SUNSHINE through the caverns, the sudden heat did not extinguish the fiery hot feeling of HATRED that burned a hole in his heart. That always persisted, ever since that day in that frosty cave.

[break][break] If anything, the heat only furthered his reminder of MATIAS SILPH and PENELOPE LIVY, thus increasing his resentment.

[break][break] CHIEN PAO appeared, leaping off cliffs and walls with it's ACROBATICS attack. A snarl echoes as knife-teeth punctures the incoming IRON HANDS, some of which who are impaled by their fellow admin's HYPER BEAM.

[break][break] One of the PARADOX POKEMON escapes, lumbering forward as its colossal hands reach out to ensnare Jayden in a suffocating grip. The admin's eyes widen, reminded of Lulu Flint, before vitriol snakes it's way into his heart.

[break][break] Then, suddenly, in a flash — Jayden plunges a sword between the beast's armor, metallic slicing away to splintered ice.

[break][break] The large pokemon falls to the ground with a massive thud.

Several SOLAR BEAMS from BARNABY FINCH's NINETALES took care of the rest. By the end of the encounter, metal scraps and a strange, iridescent fluid littered the cavern floor, leaving the space eerily quiet after such a tumultuous battle.[break][break]

Barnaby stepped forward, his focus on the demolished IRON HANDS, looking for stragglers. However, his voice echoed out as he asked,[break][break]
