“Yo, Baki! Good to see ya! Have a seat!” Not hearing her question, he manages to respond anyway. “Would’ve been over, but the match is on.”

[attr="class","star2tsu4"]The sound of a subwoofer from the other room, and she's confident she's not alone. She steps from the foyer into the man cave beyond, and immediately she's assailed by nostalgic sights, sounds, and smells. Like she'd never left home.[break][break]

"Damn, you're still up?[break][break]

"Oooh, Shuwen, those Tauros steaks from Dewford? Good ol' Shuwen, what'd Navy do without ya? Glad to see he's not goin' hungry without me around."[break][break]

She smiles, taking the heavy plate from Shuwen without missing a beat, switching it out with her hand-made casserole. She takes a whiff of what's on the platter and her mouth waters, setting a select cut of meat onto each of the plates before picking out one for herself. Ordinarily, she'd be averse to steak made by anyone else, but she'd taught the Urishifu how to cook 'em just the way Navy liked. Medium rare, lots of blood. They were like comfort food at this point.[break][break]

That, and the diet of togedemaruchan ramen and iced coffee these last few months probably didn't help. [break][break]

Baki plops down in the armchair beside Navy, handing him his own plate piled with steaks. She gives a double take at Hattori, the ninja now clad in black.[break][break]

"Hattori, you look... good? More like a ninja. Navy... glad you're still a night noctowl. Freya's had me on call on nights the last few months. Isn't it late for you?[break][break]

"Anyway. Here. I got you somethin' to congratulate you on the new position. I know, I know. It's late. Took me a while to save up on a government salary."[break][break]

She reaches over and puts the golden ball in his lap. Taking a bite, she offers him a warning with her mouth half-full before he can open it.[break][break]

"Oh, and don't open it unless you're near a pool of water."[break][break]

Hattori blushes, Shuwen huffs. Neither one gives her a true response. The little frog scurries away, only to be replaced by a Perrserker. Tsubaki never got much time to spend with Tormund, before duty called her away. Although neither Pokemon or human or a stranger to one another, there isn’t the same amount of familiarity.[break][break]
“Har!” He says for a greeting, disappearing and snatching up a steak. It seems he takes them the same way his trainer does. Tormund devours the Tauros flesh like it is the last thing he will ever consume, a feast for a starving man. He is terrible at doing things halfway.[break][break]
“You shouldn’t be buying me stuff.” Navy speaks with modesty and a hint of bashfulness. “Arceus knows they don’t pay you enough to afford anything. Looked at how much rent costs here. Only city higher’s Slateport. I don’t know how we used to do it, back when I had the office…” The honest to gods truth was they didn’t, but they held on with scotch tapes and prayers.[break][break]
Yet still, he takes the golden ball. Inside, he imagines, is something interesting. Tsubaki knows his taste in Pokemon as well as his taste in steaks.[break][break]
“Figured it was about time, you know? Time for me to step up. Kyle, Melody, hell, even Silph work so hard.” A note of anger spills in at the mention of , but he lets the note die before it turns into a song. He’s got good company.[break][break]
“Goode said I could still be a gym leader, if I wanna.”
