He can’t abide bullies. Anyone who would attack folk recovering in a hospital more than qualify. Fortune put Navy at the right place and time to respond. Police chatter around Oldale, which had only just started to calm down after the battle in the Icelands, comes alive again with reports of an attack.[break][break]
Descriptions began to roll in from those lucky enough to escape. A picture starts to form in his mind. They’re dealing with the big guns. When Navy sets out to respond, no one stops him. This is precisely what dahlia goode hired him to do.[break][break]
Police, armed with mortal tools for mortal problems, prepare to breach the hospital when Navy arrives. They are preempted by a single man stepping into view.[break][break]
No, it is not right to call him a man. It is an insult both to mankind and to what comes out of the hospital. Flanked on either side by killing machines of a dark future, armed and armored in black crystal, he seems like the harbinger of a dark apocalypse.[break][break]
“Pull back.” Navy orders the nearest policeman. “Get out of here.”[break][break]
He has seconds to respond. This creature will not spare them words. They’re marked for death simply for existing in its presence. [break][break]
Two red flashes signal his own Pokemon entering the field. Roland charges the one scientists will call Iron Leaves. Dragonslayer holds his shield aloft and charges Iron Crown. He means to clash his swords against the monster’s, buying those behind him time to flee.

Even before he'd reached the front entrance of the hospital, Zev had pieced together the scene outside of it as he raced past the building's windows. A handful of policemen with guns and trained Pokémon, accompanied by none other than Elite Four Navy. Zev had not expected the latter, but Navy's presence made no difference, in the end. [break][break]

It was not their first encounter, after all. [break][break]

As the Iron Valiant and Aegislash lunged at his robotic Paradoxes, Zev targeted the humans. The gun in one officer's hand lurched toward the ground, slamming into the earth before completely disintegrating. [break][break]

The bewildered woman had two seconds to shout in alarm before she, too, collapsed with abrupt violence. [break][break]

The other police fired their pistols, heedless of Navy's warning. Bullets shattered on Zev's carapace, flinging splinters of metal in all directions.

Rage kindles in their hearts when they watch a comrade fall. To rage, to grieve, is to be human. Humanity will not avail them against something like this.[break][break]
Bullets cast in full metal may as well be pebbles for all the good they do. Navy grinds his teeth. The Beast must feel invincible, cast in black crystal.[break][break]
“Go!” Navy shouts at the officers, who he suspects are not long for this world. “You guys can’t do shit to him!” A constant, low pain in his left arm from a dozen fruitless punches stands as testament to the armor.[break][break]
They don’t listen. These men are the walking dead. Most can’t even hear him over the thrum of gunfire. Commands to cover while they bend to reload are shouted.[break][break]
There’s only one thing he can do.[break][break]
“Drag, fall back. Raise your shield.”[break][break]
The duel between his Pokemon and the Beast’s is interrupted by the command. His Aegislash’s eye pivots to the officers and understands. Flicking back, he tries to raise a king’s shield to cover the humans, a desperate effort to buy them time.

When the Aegislash disengaged from the fight to protect the gathered humans, Zev's Iron Leaves seized the opening. It charged at Navy, its silver body gleaming in the sunlight. It readied a NIGHT SLASH, should the Elite Four fail to dodge or deflect the attack. [break][break]

The waste of their bullets was not lost on the police, safe behind the KING'S SHIELD. Some swore; others shouted commands. Pokéballs opened and their own forces leaped out: Growlithe, Zorua, Jolteon, Machoke, Corvisquire. [break][break]

"Enough games," Zev growled. His voice carried the hint of a discordant reverb, a harrowing note of alien origin. [break][break]

The Pokémon charged at him. Electricity and fire flew in his direction. He absorbed them both, snatching them from the very air to devour them. The Corvisquire flew overhead for an aerial attack, but a razor-tipped tendril skewered it through the wing. [break][break]

The officers' shouts grew increasingly bewildered. [break][break]

Frightened.

Clothes shift into something resembling golden scales. A sync stone synergizes with a sleeping dragon prince. His power is siphoned in a desperate bid to simply survive this battle.[break][break]
Historians and scientists will come to call the creature charging him Iron Leaves. Caught in the arena, Navy calls it death. Death comes for him on the edge of a blade dark as night.[break][break]
Fighting spirit surrounds his right hand, burning bright like a flame against an endless void. Against such deep darkness, even a mote of flame is a victory. A night slash meets Navy’s fiery hand. The fire punch resounds across the battlefield. Were it not for the armor and the aura, he simply wouldn’t have a right arm anymore.[break][break]
“Fuck.” He heaves the word, feeling pain unfelt since Rocket and League warred for Regice. There is no time for pain, not with so many lives on the line.[break][break]
“RUN. AWAY. ALL OF YOU.” His voice is like the clanging of clangorous scales, carrying over the din of battle with a commander’s clear cadence.

The flash of gold from Navy's direction and the flame of a parrying strike told Zev that the Elite Four had activated his Sygna Suit. It was Zev's first time seeing it. He recognized the scale pattern of a Kommo-o. [break][break]

Iron Leaves screeched in pain as fire licked at its robotic body. The sound was high-pitched, grating, digitized—like the noise of old Internet. Zev ignored it. His Pokémon would stand its ground in battle. A swiftly deployed PSYBLADE at Navy's head proved him right. [break][break]

With an incapacitated Corvisquire and attacks that weren't dealing any damage, the police finally started listening to Navy's shouts. "What is that thing?!" one asked, even as he and his team retreated into their parked cars. [break][break]

Zev fixed his cold gaze upon one vehicle. As it started to peel away, he clenched his hand into a fist. Unnecessary. He only needed to use his mind to crush the metal frame. The car crumpled with its occupants still inside. [break][break]

Glass shattered. Tires popped. Blood oozed from the seams.

A sword swings down to defend its master. The iron head clashes with the psyblade, sending sparks flying out.[break][break]
Rolling forward, leaving the battle behind him, Navy is forced to behold this terrible scene in all its glory. Pokemon and men die like flies. A Corvisquire lays twitching. Whether they are the last frantic nerve signals of a dead body or a desperate bid to stay alive, Navy cannot say.[break][break]
All he knows is that darkness stands before him. Clad in what looks to be the bronze armor of a myrmidon, he gives an answer to the darkness that has echoed across time. Man invented fire to ward off the darkness. Mankind built wonders of engineering to forget what waits beyond their sight.[break][break]
As the Beast reaches out to crush the car, so too does Navy reach out. Energy gathers around his fist. To try and harm this being is fruitless – a fool’s errand. All he can do is draw his attention, try to throw off his aim.[break][break]
An aura sphere fires from Navy’s right hand, a defiant scream on his lips. It is a promise that he will try to avenge the fallen, come what may.[break][break]
“Not today, asshole!”

Before Zev could pulverize another police car, the AURA SPHERE slammed into him. As impervious as he was to damage, he was still beholden to the laws of physics, especially when caught off guard. [break][break]

He flew backward through the air, through the broken front entrance of the hospital and into a pile of wood and plaster debris. [break][break]

The rest of the police squad escaped, fleeing the scene with wheels screeching. [break][break]

Zev wasted no time getting back on his feet. Outside, his Pokémon continued to battle. A BULLDOZE from Iron Crown made the earth ripple outward, thick pillars of hardened soil aimed at friend and foe alike. [break][break]

At the same time, Iron Leaves used ALLY SWITCH. Zev felt the familiar tug of teleportation. In the blink of an eye, he reappeared before Navy's Aegislash, arms and shoulders flaring with jagged spikes. [break][break]

Those spikes burst outward into half a dozen crystalline tendrils. Their scythe-like ends swept toward the Ghost-type and Navy both, seeking to split steel and skewer flesh.

Where there should be fear instead rests a calm heart. Shrieking wheels tell him that normalcy has exited the stage. What is left is vast darkness and a light that will not go out. To lose here is to consign Isaac Merlo to being at the mercy of two beasts. It is to admit before all the world that darkness will persist and win.[break][break]
Navy jumps. An aura sphere blasts against concrete, launching him high into the air. Spikes pierce through where he had been mere moments before. He would have died. With no Kyle to bring him back this time, the death would have stuck.[break][break]
“Yo, Drag! Put a spotlight on this guy! He likes bein’ the center of attention so much!” Navy shouts the words with a smile that defies fear. He was afraid once, down beneath Dewford granite. He will not allow any agent of Rocket to make him feel that way again.[break][break]
Dragonslayer, mere moments from striking, instead focuses his light on the man in black. It casts a spotlight on him, turning the attention and ire of every combatant on him.

Zev whirled around at the sound of another AURA SPHERE, steeling himself for the blow. But the attack had not been aimed at him. Instead, Navy had launched himself into the air high above the battlefield. For the briefest moment, he hung suspended there, as if he could fly. [break][break]

What a pain, that Sygna Suit. [break][break]

Zev's perception shifted. The invisible strands of gravity tethering Navy to the planet came into a sharp and sudden focus, though only Zev could see them. [break][break]

The other man's fancy costume meant nothing if he was obliterated into dust. [break][break]

The SPOTLIGHT was the Gym Leader's saving grace. Its sudden brightness blinded Zev, causing him to flinch and close his eyes. When he opened them again, squinting through the light, he'd lost his mental hold on Navy's form. [break][break]

"Fool," Zev said, keeping any hint of growing frustration out of his voice. "All light is mine." [break][break]

In a blink, the light bathing him vanished, absorbed into his body. Renewed strength surged through him, heating him from the inside.

He lands on his feet close to Roland, dueling with the Iron Crown. The one-armed knight makes swordplay look easy. Would that he could switch places with his Pokemon and duel the Iron Crown instead of the black monster.[break][break]
The words he finally deigns to speak give Navy pause. They tug on some distant memory, but nothing he’ll be able to remember in the heat of battle.[break][break]
“Then come take it.” They are words spoken in defiance of the natural order. One false step and he is dead. Sygna suits offer some protection, but not enough. He’ll join the fallen officers in death, greeting them with an apologetic I tried.[break][break]
The air around his right hand freezes in a surge of infinity energy. More of his sleeping Kommo-O’s power is siphoned. Step by step, he runs towards this worthy foe. The ice punch he throws is more insult than injury, petulance in the presence of the divine.

In the background of man's duel against monstrosity, Zev's Iron Crown aimed a HYDRO CANNON at the Iron Valiant. His Iron Leaves, meanwhile, charged from the hospital to re-engage the Aegislash with NIGHT SLASH. [break][break]

Bracing himself, Zev took the ICE PUNCH fully in the chest. He could have stepped aside or blocked the blow, but he knew the effect that tanking the attack would have on human minds. Frost coated his torso. Ice crystals shattered upon it. [break][break]

"Try again, Navidson." [break][break]

Zev reached out to grasp Navy's outstretched wrist. If the other man did not pull back to escape Zev's grip, he'd twist the arm in an attempt to bring Navy to his knees.

Behind them, colors dance. Moonlight storms against water, light clashes against dark. Pokemon will fight. It is their nature to fight. They take to it like a fish to water.[break][break]
Navy’s Pokemon will not avail him as the monster grabs his wrist. Arceus, what strength this crystalline thing has. Navy grunts, forced to his knees. The wrist aches, tender muscles threatening to rip. Once again, there is no way he will come out of this whole. Men are not Pokemon, nor are they gods. They lose bits of themselves, piece by piece, when they fight.[break][break]
It’s a price he’ll gladly pay to walk the warrior’s road.[break][break]
“Okay.” Is all he says, every nerve in his body bracing himself for what’s about to happen. Navy prays John Sullivan can save his arm.[break][break]
Energy builds in his open palm. An aura sphere blasts the monster full-on in the chest. With it comes a howl of pain from the man who fired the blast.

The energy gathering in Navy's held palm was Zev's only warning. He had no time to release the Gym Leader or dodge a second direct hit. So instead, he braced himself, magnifying the gravity pulling on him to keep him from flying backward. Then he closed his eyes. [break][break]

The point-blank AURA SPHERE smashed into Zev. He heard a loud snap as Navy's arm suffered the recoil. The attack's energy whipped around Zev's torso, enough to fry skin and devastate organs. [break][break]

Yet when it dissipated, the cold void remained. Two dots of cruel blue stared down at Navy from within the blackness. [break][break]

Then Zev smiled, and it was a terrible thing. [break][break]

"You're going to need to try harder than that." [break][break]

But before either man could act, a brilliant, prismatic light illuminated the entire area. It poured from the windows of the hospital's second floor, beautiful and haunting. The accompanying signature of Infinity Energy was tremendous. [break][break]

Zev frowned, all smugness gone. Something was wrong. [break][break]

Something had happened to bryan delarosa. [break][break]

Filled with sudden urgency, Zev released Navy's wrist and whistled for his Pokémon. The two robotic Paradoxes, both looking haggard from their fights, pivoted away at once to their master's side.
