What sort of colleague didn't like to see his associates fail, every now and then? Especially one as disgusting as ■■■? The man's failure amused the admin, even if Howard didn't act on it. Even if ■■■ was a mask, perfectly in control of any emotion he displayed, there was one thing that transcended a stoic demeanor:

Nobody liked to fail.

"This is academia. You take a step forward, then get stonewalled. This won't be the first time, and it won't be the last."

The land did not unveil her secrets in one lifetime.

"It's going well. You did us a favor at the Ancient Tomb. Rocket will want for little in regards to those materials. They sell for a lot." That they did. Enough to buy several Howling at the Moons, Howard suspected. He kept that tidbit to himself.

"The quality is lamentable, though. The Ultra Deep Sea's stars are impeccable. Getting them out easily? A chore."

The League's grip on that place was like a vice, even with Howard's public persona and 'in' with the authorities.

Zev ignored Howard's unnecessary attempt at teaching a lesson. Failure was not something that existed in Zev's world. If circumstances didn't go the way he expected, his warped perspective twisted it into a non-event. Clearly, there was something wrong with the ruined altar, not with Necrozma itself. And certainly not with him. [break][break]

"You're going to have to find a way to distract Navidson," Zev said. "Keep him busy while you go dig into Eternatus' heart." [break][break]

Mention of his patron's nemesis put a sour taste in his mouth. His shard roared without warning, mirroring his displeasure. The alien sound echoed off the surrounding rocks and lingered in the air. [break][break]

Zev turned his attention away from the abomination and toward his goal. He cast one last look at the Moone Altar before turning his back to it, intending to return to Hoenn. "I'll keep looking for more instances of this symbol. They must be in other locations in Ultra Space." [break][break]

His word choice was a compromise. Howard was busy with other responsibilities, and Zev knew that stretching a resource too thinly over multiple jobs meant lower quality of work overall. The Beast would have to take the reins of his search in his own hands.

Joy. The admin's little plans were getting leaked all over headquarters. He didn't know if Barnaby or Cillian or Shred had blabbed, but the chance of putting the lid on this case was quickly vanishing.

Pandora did not like it when you played with her box.

"I'm working on it." The admin didn't elaborate much beyond that. He wouldn't involve ■■■ in his own plays. He doubted that the Rocket Beast cared. ■■■'s gaze was turned towards the stars. It didn't leave him much time to look upon the worms crawling across the ground below.

Still, he was correct. The sheriff had to be stalled. Luckily, Howard had a plan to deal with him. Navy would prioritize the Deep Sea no matter what, so it was a matter of stalling over stopping.

"I wish you the best in that. I'll send you my notes for Ultra Plant. They're not much, but..." Howard shrugged and scratched his chin. "They might help."

That world was next on Howard's list, anyway.

Zev glanced over his shoulder at Howard and nodded. "Send them, then." [break][break]

He whistled a low note, summoning his Golurk from where it stood vigil. As the Ghost-type lumbered over to give both men a ride back to the Ultra Crater, the shard of Necrozma ripped open a wormhole and disappeared. Zev stared at the space it had occupied, plans formulating in his mind. [break][break]

Then he tossed his cigarette onto the barren moonsoil and stomped it out.
