26 experience a clutch of ultra beast eggs hatching and the horrific newborn forms of nihilego or poipole emerging. protective parent ultra beasts will mercilessly protect them.

32 explore a biome of trenches similar to those found underwater. it is overgrown with strands of glowing coral and fumaroles that blast hot gas or putrid liquid.

38 explore a deeper, water-filled cave system or trench that requires diving suits, a vessel, or the creative use of a pokemon. in the trench. certain sections are more acidic and unhealthy than others, while others are purely channels of blood.

Next to howard slayte, reality ripples like a heat wave on a hot day. The seams of the world come apart beneath the PHANTOM FORCE of a Dhelmise, and Cillian steps from shadow to sunlight. [break][break]

Tempest Quinn would not be long behind him.[break][break]

Reluctantly, he wears his SYGNA SUIT. This Dhelmise was not the red menace that was his signature, but a comparatively docile member of the species whose vibrant green seaweed matches the accents of Cillian's attire. The Sygna Suit resembles diving gear, but the DEEP SEA was astral, not aquatic. It is only to extend their time beneath.[break][break]

He feels naked without his power. Slow.[break][break]

The grappling anchor that wraps around Cillian's left arm rattles softly as he moves.[break][break]

"Fox." He acknowledges the Admin without vitriol, all business. "Lead on."

There's no need for Cillian Quinn to spew vitriol now. He could not compare to the Ultra Deep Sea in that regard.

"Understood. Stay close." The admin's Sygna Suit was a sublayer to the armor he wore on Rocket business. oscar clayton had done a good job at repairing it after the Giant Chasm and Area Zero had chewed it up and spit it out. Howard still didn't know what every button on his armor did, all this time later. "You too, Beast Quinn."

He was beginning to suspect that two Quinns was one too many. It might've even been two too many.

"There's a series of trenches nearby. We'll be taking that route to guarantee we avoid the League's scouts." He wondered if he could push Cillian and Temp into a trench and run away. "Clear?"

Dhelmise follows Dhelmise. The more modern, metallic wheel of Tempest's own is peers at howard slayte when they emerge. Hopping down, Tempest checks his own Sharpedo themed Sygna Suit carefully over. Marina wasn't out right now, the Sharpedo safely tucked away in a Dive Ball at Tempest's hip. The goggles were pushed up on his forehead, re-breather hanging off the side and brushing his cheek.[break][break]

Tempest looked a little nauseous for a moment, as he usually was after a Teleport or Phantom Force. Shaking ti off quickly, the Hoyeon man's features smoothed to a much more serious look than Howard might have been used to seeing.[break][break]

"Heard." Is affirmed when Howard asks. Tempest nods to Cillian Quinn as well before staring ahead firmly.[break][break]

"Remember to stay sharp. This thing fucked with my mind when I battled Hyakkaryōran Tsubaki here."

This was a part of the Deep Sea unfamiliar to Cillian. His previous expeditions had been done without the threat of the League breathing down their neck and with the ability to rely on maps and base camps set out by other Rockets.[break][break]

Now, he is reliant on howard slayte's knowledge.[break][break]

He hates it.[break][break]

"Clear."[break][break]

He sticks close as suggested, and bumps shoulders with Tempest Quinn in a silent gesture of affection.[break][break]

Howard had been correct in his assumption: Temp was not here because Cillian loved him, though certainly he did. He was here because Cillian knew that Temp would not hesitate to tear Howard's throat out should he try anything funny.[break][break]

TERA CRYSTALS jut from the earth like jagged, broken teeth. It reminds Cillian of imprisonment, and he takes Temp's hand to give it a squeeze.[break][break]

Howard leads on.

The third wheeling continued, and the other two wheels hated his guts. Lucky him.

"Masks on, gentlemen." A mechanism hissed as the admin pushed his helmet on. Flora crawled across the surface of the various trenches like an unholy latticework. The familiar stench of hissing gasses reminded Howard why he absolutely hated his job. "Or hold your breath for about..."

The admin mimed checking his watch.

"Thirty minutes. World record is twenty-four by a Hoyeon freediver." The admin's eye lingered on Temp for a moment.

A bloody liquid surrounded their calves as the trio descended. Howard whistled casually as they continued. Hopefully Temp bumped Cillian's shoulder hard enough that the underboss fell over. It'd make this adventure worthwhile.

Eyes forward. Serious. Stony. Tempest is the well trained dog here; the one who will only snap if Cillian Quinn orders it. howard slayte is very lucky in that regards for the moment.[break][break]

Fingers tangle together briefly, a crack in the armor as Tempest glances at his husband. The ghost of a smile given to Cillian in the smallest of windows. The sign of humanity in someone who relished being a monstrous Beast.[break][break]

The hold is only broken to slip his mask back over his face. The re-breather still swings free at his cheek.[break][break]

Tempest's eyes meet Howard's, brown closed off and flinty.[break][break]

"Learn that in a book?" There is no playful hint in his tone, no smiles or jabs. Tempest glances away from Howard with indifference. "She's my second cousin."[break][break]

For those in the know, it would be clear what he wanted.[break][break]

Leave my people out of your mouth..[break][break]

The Re-breather snaps between his teeth with a rough click. The hiss of air pushing into his lungs as the final barrier of his mask snaps into place. Tempest wades into the blood the deepest, first, until he's kicking his legs under him. The Sygna Suit glows faintly, thin white lines that make the liquid glow a sickly pink and red. After a moment, his head vanishes under the drink; searching for threats and waiting to be led.

The tension between Howard and Tempest does not go unnoticed. Cillian knew only that they'd fought some time ago, over 'something stupid' as his husband had grouchily proclaimed; they'd left it at that.[break][break]

The growl in Temp's voice sends a chill down his spine.[break][break]

He knows that tone.[break][break]

Pulling his rebreather into place and drawing sweet oxygen into his lungs, Cillian nudges Temp in unspoken warning. Behave warns the look he follows it with. In a place as dangerous as this, they couldn't afford to be fighting amongst themselves. But neither would he reprimand the Beast aloud without full knowledge of what had transpired between the two.[break][break]

He touches again, softer, this time meant to soothe rather than rebuke.[break][break]

To howard slayte's dismay, Cillian keeps both his footing and his cool as they wade knee-deep into what looks suspiciously like blood. Drowning was Cillian's greatest fear. To drown in blood was not something he'd thought to face, but he follows Temp into the deep with only a moment's hesitation.[break][break]

The seaweed accents of his SYGNA SUIT glow like bioluminescence as it activates. It seemed the diving gear might come in handy after all.

It had been a meaningless argument. It had been stupid. It was that meaninglessness that had enflamed the passion of the two.

Howard's Aerodactyl had almost died fighting a Walking Wake in Area Zero when marching after Regirock with Michael Navidson. The fight with the Paradox Pokemon had reminded the admin of his mediocrity and his mortality. Why had Walsh doomed him with the chase of a Pokémon Howard couldn't defeat? Couldn't contain?

Was it his idea of a joke?

It didn't matter. Howard Slayte would never rely on the Pokémon he loved again. They would never be hurt on the field. Regice would suffice. His argument with Temp had not done much to soothe the waters.

"Possibly. Never really figured out Pokepedia." Howard's cough echoed through his helmet as the trio waded through a cavernous trench filled with blood. He pointed at an open wound in a wall of flesh. "This path is pretty submerged, but it'll take us where we need to go. It also helps us avoid the sheriff's Garchomps and whatever the League left here."

Mostly mechanical Pokémon that could resist the influence of Eternatus. Howard didn't want to get blasted by a Porygon-Z or something equally asinine.

Meaningless in the moment doesn't mean insignificant. All it had taken was one set of words before howard slayte stomped off to make Tempest's blood boil.[break][break]

Sharp eyes flick over to meet gold, softening instantly. Tempest nods to Cillian Quinn in understanding, taking a breath to center himself. Time for petty drama later. They had shit to do.[break][break]

A glance at where Howard points, Tempest kicking off to be the first to slide through the wound. The fleshy walls leak mucous and pus. Vaguely, he wonders what taking a sample from this would show. Was the red substance actually blood? It was likely, given what they knew... but what kind of system was this leaking from? Was it mainly antigens? White blood cells? Some other technical terms that Tempest wasn't aware of?[break][break]

It was much to think about.[break][break]

Tempest raises his hand to catch his Dhelmise's attention, pointing forward. Cillian and Howard would feel more than hear the ringing in the water from the massive pokemon, a Metal Sound vibrating in the blood around them. Tempest would pause, almost as if listening, hand stretched out in front of him....[break][break]

Then a nod, signaling a 'coast is clear' before pushing forward.

Cillian steels himself and shows no weakness, though his heart pounds hard enough he worries that howard slayte might hear it and know him for a coward.[break][break]

After Temp declares the coast as clear, Cillian plunges into a river of blood.[break][break]

He can't see through the haze of red that's quick to coat his goggles. For navigation, he relies on his Dhelmise, hooking an arm around its anchor and allowing it to pull them both through the murk. It's terrifying to think of how easily he could get lost in a place like this. There was no way to know if Howard and Temp were still with him but to trust that they were all still moving in the same direction.[break][break]

Like vessels, they are carried through a bloodstream.[break][break]

After what feels like forever, Cillian breaches the surface. He pulls himself from the channel onto a bank of bone and wipes too-thick liquid from his mask, squinting through a streaky visor to assess his surroundings. To his relief, he finds he is not alone.[break][break]

Looking to howard slayte, ensuring that the other is looking back, he taps the rebreather and tilts his head.

Howard calling Cillian a coward would be the font of hypocrisy and irony. Thus, he said nothing.

At the end of the day, Cillian had crawled out of the hellish burning pit known as Kanto several years prior. From a hell of fire and screaming orphans and charred rubble was replaced with one of pulsing flesh and boiling pus. The only thing the two shared was the ocean of blood that the trio now waded through.

Iron and steel had forged the underboss and beast, and now the two were joined by an admin as they waded through its liquid form.

Tap. Tap. He tapped his helmet twice and then made a sign. It was a familiar diving sign: not yet.

After a few more minutes, the admin stopped and held up a hand. He made a show of popping off his helmet with a familiar hiss. After a deep breath, the admin tasted the disgusting scent of the air. In the bioluminescence of the abyss, the admin's eye shined as fleshy walls pulsed.

"Smells like shit, but it's safe. You can take them off."

Blood streaks across Tempest's face and body and down his chest when he rises from the redness. A ghastly specter stained in pink and gore, he grumbles at the tacky feeling against his suit as he wipes the viscera from his visor.[break][break]

howard slayte signals and Tempest nods, glancing away and forward as he squints into the darkness. The dim glow of the luminescence is fitting mood lighting for the wet noise of their feet on the skin floor, a dull echo sinking deep into the cavern.[break][break]

He snaps his re-breather out when given the go ahead, nose wrinkling as the putrid smell of a working body fills his senses. It's almost enough to make the nose water; the acid is free from the stench of decay at least. Pure rot always made him gag a little.[break][break]

"Ugh, this is fucking terrible." Tempest's Dhelmise rises out of the murk, stained to resemble it's shiny counterpart. He motions for the anchor to follow close, again walking to scout ahead. There no further pings from it's Steel Sound, only one eye scanning slowly back and forth.[break][break]

The tunnel they're in seems mostly empty, slowly opening up into a wider cavern. There are multiple 'holes' along the sides, a large lake of some inky purple liquid in the center. The acidic smell burns and makes Temp blink tears from his eyes.

Having taken a diving course in university, Cillian acknowledges the signal with one of his own, his thumb and index finger forming a closed loop. OK.[break][break]

When howard slayte finally removes his helmet, Cillian pulls his rebreather down and almost chokes on the acidity of the air. His nose wrinkles and he swallows a gag. He's smelled worse, but the transition from pure, sweet oxygen to some alien's internal workings was a jarring one.[break][break]

Composing himself, his gaze cuts across a lake of violet.[break][break]

"Nihilego toxin."[break][break]

He's worked with it enough by now to recognize it. It's the first time he's ever seen it in such a large quantity, however, even accounting for his previous trips to the Sea.[break][break]

"But no Nihilego. Strange."[break][break]

Unsettling, he thinks, as they begin to circle around the poison lake. A fel wind rattles through the fleshy cavern, rippling the surface of that noxious pool.
