A fellow girlie had just been promoted from a Minor Gym Leader into the major league? You bet Andrea was gonna show her support by being one of her friend’s first challengers!

Entering a false forest teeming with woodland critters, the young cosplayer was amazed that such a lush biome could exist this close to an active volcano. Ogerpon seemed especially fond of it, stopping to smell the flowers.

“Pon~!”

“I agree.” The Oni’s caretaker nodded. “This place looks really nice. Maybe after the battle we could have a picnic here!” The dragon-costumed woman mused aloud.

It had been but a day since the Psychedelic Chateau 2.0 had been officially opened to the public, both for perusal and gym challenges alike; though it had not been on her radar to take upgrading her minor gym into her own hands, the cosmic bondage that came with the nabbing of innocent soul after innocent soul had pushed her far outside her zone of comfort. A wish to act, to insert her chess piece fully upon the table as all the others around her had done- it was what she owed to the world in exchange for being able to say that through such turmoil, she lived.[break][break]

Even if thinking of the events that had transpired, despite her fortunes in comparison to some, made her feel as if she was dying on the inside. Fears that she would never be good enough to carry out her newfound responsibilities prospered alongside the winding blooms and sprouts that flourished in her false forest. Sitting upon a tree branch near the canopy with her Zarude, which stared about, she smoked a cigarette in anticipation of her first challenger.. a beautiful, perfect first match.[break][break]

"Have as many picnics here as your heart desires," she called out from the tops of the trees, navigating her way down branch by branch, ".. welcome to the Psychedelic Chateau 2.0, Andrea. Oh, and you brought.."[break][break]

A feeling of a thrum on her chest, a deep kick, manifested at the sight of the Ogerpon- her face appeared still, almost too still, at the sight. Being that when the beast had been freed with their efforts, she spun upon her aerial silk with tears falling to the point of minimal sight, she did not truly see that it had vacated alongside those held in the penitentiary. Yet alone that it had survived, too, and been freed from the toxic chains that had once kissed its neck.[break][break]

"You're okay now, little one?" she asked it chirpishly, digging her heels into the dirt hesitantly with a few steps back, ".. you've found one of the best to accompany, I see. It's nice to meet you outside of those circumstances.." It was quite fortunate- though, the Zarude that continued to lurk in the bends of winding branches was far too fearful to introduce itself. Perhaps it was due to the empathy it felt in seeing its trainer feel fear in seeing the Ogre, or perhaps its lack of ever seeing a creature like this before.[break][break]

Desiree did not know if the toxic chains or its inner desires brought its previous attack upon them all, back then- nor if she could trust a legendary, even with its presently cute nature.

“Hi, Desi!” The dragon maiden jovially waved at the pinkette, blissfully unaware of the latter’s trepidation regarding her newfound, impish little friend.

It was unclear whether Ogerpon herself remembered the faces of those she had hurt in a Toxic Chain-induced frenzy, but she initially seemed timid around the pink-haired human.

“Po…”

Sensing the presence of another Pokémon awoke her playful side. The citrus gremlin wrapped her vines around the tree where Desiree’s Zarude was hiding, shaking it with superhuman strength.

“Pon! Pon!”

“She’s pretty lively, as you can see!” Andrea stifled a giggle at the display. “I’m so glad we were able to rescue her from that awful place…” She added with a more doleful expression.

“A-a-anyway, what’s so psychedelic about this chateau?” Her attempt at changing the subject to one less triggering of her trauma was about as subtle as one would expect.

The tree shook effervescently at the sweet Ogerpon's releasing of her vines; at first, the Zarude's primal instincts led it to believe that an earthquake was occurring upon the mountainside, but once its eyes refocused on the ground, or more so, the stump, all it could do was hold on for dear life as anxious tears manifested upon its cheeks. Desiree smiled at this, motioning with her hands to the monkey pokemon to come down and stop playing its game of fear.[break][break]

Perhaps she was wrong in judging an ivy book on its previously toxic chained cover. "I am too," she responded softly, ".. something so playful, so whimsical, does not deserve such a fate- just like any mortal."[break][break]

A tear crept down her cheek, replacing the tears of worry that once trickled down the forest creature's furry maw in worry. Within its approach, swinging from vine to vine and landing behind its trainer, it held onto Desiree's waist and peered at the creature from behind. Yet, the playful side of the legendary being brought it to shakily hold a hand out toward it, wishing to become acquainted especially due to its seemingly grassy appearance.[break][break]

"Come, let's walk to one of the outdoor battling stadiums," she said, taking slow steps through a bend in the trees, ".. I can answer any questions you may have about these." Within her invited walk, she held a bowl within her palms structured of stained glass, sending rays of rainbow prisms each time it caught sunlight. Swirling within the bowl were two twin pills, colored pink and green, reminiscent of her favorite of the mushroom species.[break][break]

"They're Shiinotic spores, they grant hallucinations- and the psychedelic quirks of the chateau. They're quite great for processing mental turmoils.. if you're prepared to look them in the eye."

“Nobody deserves such a fate.” Andrea curtly stated with an imperceptible frown. Though Hoenn’s ever-shifting geopolitical climate had forced them to move on, she still fostered GRUDGES against the fiends that had subjected them to such cruelty.

As the black mandrill held out a hand, the orange-faced Oni used her vines as an extension of her limbs in order to accept it. New friend acquired!

As they strolled with Desi and her Zarude towards the arena, the gimmick of the Gym was revealed. “Shiinotic spores? Hallucinations?” The young PokéManiac looked apprehensive at first. “Is this… l-l-legal?” It was obvious that she had never done drugs before.

Ogerpon, meanwhile, seemed more interested in the container that held those drugs, jumping up and down as if attempting to reach the shiny bowl.

“Ponni! Ponni!”

Could it be that the stained glass patterns reminded her of Tera Crystals?

Much like Andrea, the grudges ran deeply within her mortal confines when it came to the Megalopolan generals who had become unwound in their endless pursuit of power. While there was the tiniest bit of hypocrisy visible in her statement, as she did not have empathy for the two specifically that had been chained and willingly spread it, she did not view those alien commanders as mortals. She wished for them to die as she did all the legendary creatures that bore ill will on humanity.[break][break]

The frown that had been turned to hesitation caused the Gym Leader to giggle on their little walk. "Of course they're legal," she responded whimsically, ".. much more legal than being forced upon a toxic chain.. and you saw how many people showed the one responsible mercy before our escape. If it weren't legal, they would have to eradicate the Shiinotic and Morelull species from our region and beyond."[break][break]

Though she understood naivety when it came to these kinds of things, she was sure that even the concept was allowed simply due to the counteractive measures she had taken when establishing such a quirk- sobering pills that eradicate the effects nearly instantaneously. She did not view the spores, nor anything that could grow naturally within the soil, as drugs; they were simply gifts brought upon the world by its creators. They were much less likely to cause ruin than the synthetic compounds, she knew that better than anyone as an ex-junkie of the needle.[break][break]

"How cute, little pon-pon," she smiled, holding the shiny bowl up in an attempt to bring it out of the Ogerpon's reach, ".. but yes, I would never force taking this kind of substance on anyone that was not willing and providing consent. Things like the toxic chain, and the radiation of the Ultra Deep Sea, are what led me to wish to open such a challenge- to prepare the populous against things that are bestowed unto them unwillingly, and to test the bond between pokemon and their intoxicated trainer."[break][break]

Their walk led them to the stadium- a grassy field with benches lining its outskirts, trees consuming the canopy and protruding from the ground within. The terrain was smooth at the bottom, though branches and trees wove to make battling feel even more natural as if the battle was taking place in a deep, organic forest. Two identical bowls to the one she held in her hand rested on podiums on each side, which she dropped a pill into, each. One for herself, and one for Andrea.[break][break]

Navigating to her side with the Zarude, after it gave the masked Ogre a nod and a forest trill, she quickly placed the pill in between her lips and swallowed. "Your new friend gets the first move~! And our safe word if the hallucinogens become too much.. how about toukon?" She asked, her vision becoming partially altered with a blur. As for the forest monkey, it quickly wound itself up a tree and stared from above on a large branch.

Despite her attempt at being whimsical, Desi’s response was rather dark, casually talking about eradicating an entire evolutionary line. Moreover, her mention of the Toxic Chain was in poor taste, and it showed in the other woman’s reaction.

“I wasn’t trying to imply they’re the same thing!” The redhead vehemently stated, terrified at the thought of comparing her friend to those monsters. “The Megalopolans and the Lousy Three never even bothered to ask for consent. They never bothered to ask us anything…”

They had never asked Hoenn for help in reclaiming their city. They had never asked them if they wanted to be imprisoned. They had never asked them if they wanted to be beaten, laughed at, and treated like slaves.

Those intrusive thoughts clouded Andrea’s mind as she took the hallucinogenic pill and swallowed it. “TOUKON is fine.” She nodded. It was a word she held dearly in her heart, so she was guaranteed to remember it.

Ogerpon made the first move of the battle, attempting to smack the big monkey off the tree with a Power Whip that was much stronger than her puny frame would suggest.

"The leaders of the Megalopolan regime.. are one of the many things wrong with our universe," a tear wished to manifest, yet remained tucked within her psychedelic eye, ".. if more people saw that then, love could take root again faster.."[break][break]

She wished for them to die both then and now; that fiery flicker manifested in her sight due to the compound and her unfaltering vitriol. A leaf fell at the movement of the Zarude in the trees above, presenting as a pale blue face once, followed by a bitter pink pecharunt second. Their taunts called out with the rustling only for her to hear, chanting 'killer, killer, killer'.[break][break]

Ogerpon's power whip was a lone lashing, that which brought the Zarude to replace its timid nature with adrenaline alone. Though it made contact and stung, it wished to numb it with exertion, much like its trainer. Using one of the vines lining the tree branches, it swung downward and attempted to wrap its opponent with a swift GRASS KNOT. The blurred visions of the swinging was the cherry on top, as it brought Desiree back to the moments that led up to the mask pokemon becoming free.[break][break]

Raising a palm to cover her eyes, she took deep breaths and took a swig of water brought to her by a lone Shiinotic. It then promptly made its way to Andrea, a personal offer. "Have you two been okay since those days? Those.. months?"[break][break]

The voices of the trees were lies now, she knew that much.

As the big ape went on the offensive, Andrea’s eyes widened. “Pon, watch out! Don’t let him grab you!” Thanks to its small stature and nimble movements, her partner was able to narrowly dodge. Had it been a larger, heavier Pokémon, that move would have been an issue.

“Phew… That was close!” The draconic cosplayer unhooded herself, wiping a bucket of sweat off her forehead. Battling this close to a volcano while wearing a full-body costume wasn’t such a bright idea. She recoiled at her own odor. “Eww! Did I always smell this bad?!”

It was a side effect of the psychedelics, which let her experience a wider range of sensations than normal, unlocking previously unknown scents. Ogerpon’s sweat smelled faintly of orange juice. Zarude’s sweat had a muskier scent. Desiree’s sweat was bitter like poison.

The girl breathed heavily from the sensory overload to her nose, all the while her head spun like a merry-go-round. When fresh water was offered, she took it with a shaky hand, and poured its refreshing contents all over her head.

“I’m fine! I’m n-not a lightweight, I s-swear!” The now soaked PokéManiac blurted out. “I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine! Stop asking me if I’m fine!” She lashed out like a cornered animal.

“Pon?” The green ogre looked at her worriedly, awaiting new orders that never came.

The Zarude dipped through a slit in the trees and then popped out again, though higher in the branches, confused if agility or lack of strong knots was the reason its move had failed. "I don't think you smell bad at all, Andrea," Desiree responded with a smile, blissfully unaware of the flowers held in front of her nose by one of her wandering Eldegoss, ".. you smell kinda like petunias~!"[break][break]

The commentary and the whimsical wavering of it all distracted her from both the voices and her scent, which all the more certainly did smell bitter; perhaps it was the toxicity and grim dread begging to come out, forcing itself through her glands. With a nod in response to her shunning of a question, as she wished for it not to become more uncomfortable for the girl of dragons, she clasped her hands together and lit a cigarette as she tried to scan.[break][break]

Andrea, of course, would be safe this high up on the mountain- she had to be. "Pon isn't attacking? Andrea," she said softly, tilting her head in fascination, ".. focus as much as you can, Andrea. As much as your body will allow.."[break][break]

Commands meant nothing to both Desiree and her Zarude, now- their instincts existed in tandem with the trees and their unforgiving pursuit. As it watched from the top of the trees, it attempted to swing down on a vine and then back up again with a U-TURN.[break][break]

"Love will be taken from us if we don't focus during circumstances like these."

In a split second of vulnerability, Ogerpon was struck from above, rolling backwards like a cabbage with legs. That monkey was quickly becoming a nuisance.

Monkey.

Munkidori.

It was Munkidori that had just struck Ogerpon from above.

“Y-you’re not real…” Andrea eked out, feeling the whole forest closing in on her, trapping her within a dome of trees. That vine ~~Zarude~~ Munkidori was swinging on was not a vine at all; it was a Toxic Chain.

More of those magenta chains wrapped themselves around tree branches, or sprouted from the ground like flowers. Even Desiree’s bright pink hair transformed into a mass of writhing, wiggling Toxic Chains.

Toxic Chains. Toxic Chains everywhere. Andrea could feel their oppressive grasp around her throat, suffocating her, subjugating her, removing her freedom. Was it already time to use the safe word?

A soft voice told her to focus lest her love be taken away from her. That was enough motivation for her to persevere. “I love Jalapeño, and Chomper, and the girlies… and I love Pon! It’s time to Play Rough!” The young cosplayer exclaimed.

“Pon!” At the flamboyant trainer’s order, the green-clad Oni jumped back up, ascending to the treetops on her own vines, before assaulting ~~Zarude~~ Munkidori with a flurry of playful kicks.

The look of fear and hesitation in Andrea’s eyes brought another pang into her stomach, just as the now fired-up Zarude’s swinging from above brought a success in landing a hit. As she looked out from her side of the arena, she used her hands to push away the faces that wished to present on her counterpart to see the real her.[break][break]

Megalopolan faces were always so dull, and the cosplayer’s face was always so bright. It brought her to smile, moreover, that she affirmed the love of the creatures that had made their way into her heart- even if her face was appearing a psychedelic blue.[break][break]

“What do you see, Andrea?” she asked quickly, curiously. If she were to take the role of the administrator of the compound, she also needed to take the role of one to walk those through it. And, though difficult, Shamans needed to know.[break][break]

A ‘pon’ seemed to be a grunt of valour, or so the determined Zarude caught on to. At the approach of the Ogerpon, it attempted to hop from branch to branch, but was far too slow in comparison to the channelling of vines. The playful kicks made contact, all the more, bringing it to fall from the trees.[break][break]

But with the swinging of a downward vine, it attempted to use momentum in pushing back upward like a spoke on a clock. Arm extended, it wished to clash with a POWER ARM in return.

“I-I see Toxic Chains… and Munkidori.” The dragon fanatic stammered a reply. She was lucid enough to know she was hallucinating, but a part of her still wished to get revenge on that darn monkey. Its death in the penitentiary had been mercifully swift.

“Pon, use Spiky Shield!” Her order came with no delay this time, an impenetrable barrier of ivy and thorns ensuring that the simian’s attack hurt itself more than it did Ogerpon. That technique was similar to the one deployed by Elisabeth Fiorelli’s Wo-Chien.

Andrea took another swig of water offered by a Shiinotic, feeling the side effects of the hallucinogen worsening. The entire forest rotted and decayed as if Ruination had come to Lavaridge. All the while, the sound of Munkidori’s piercing cackle rang in her ears.

“You’re right, I need to focus on the battle itself!” The eccentric trainer said, slapping both of her cheeks. She then squinted her eyes at Desiree. “Huh. I dunno if it’s because of the spores, but your face looks totally different than before…”

It was definitely because of the spores. People’s faces could not change out of the blue.

“Munkidori,” she responded softly, hearing one of the former’s strange calls and envisioning the giggling that resided behind its chain, “.. we can only hope that creature stays dead, no?”[break][break]

She did not make the connection that Zarude existed as yet another manifestation of their time spent in the bondage of the penitentiary to her friend- how could she, when it was nothing to her other than a monkey so sweet?[break][break]

The forest-dwelling creature swung from the branch with a vine with an arm thrust, as if it were the warden swinging with its toxic chain unfurled. Yet, the Spiky Shield caused the mythical pokemon to wince in agony and fall from the trees into the grass below. There was very little else it could do having had spikes embedded into what felt like every inch of its body.[break][break]

Like the spikes that had flung into Desiree when the Nihilego had been released.. above the flames cast outward by the very Ogerpon that had now fought valiantly before her. Mustering the rest of the energy it could afford, it whipped a POWER WHIP upward, unable to distract its trainer from all she could see in her starry eyes.[break][break]

“Your face is different to me too, like a Megalopolans,” she said, gulping water mutually, “.. and all the swinging.. it’s just like when we freed Pon, when I swung from the pipes and felt Nihilego spikes kiss my cheeks.”[break][break]

A hand rose to her cheek- it felt soft now, healed.[break][break]

“And to think if we hadn’t experienced that, we wouldn’t have Pon.. and the ability to have taken revenge for all the voices that no longer can speak because of them.”
