When Dorian was finally lead into the newly crowned God General's office, the man made his way in, trailing the secretary.

To hear that the Black Hand, a man he had the honor of working with in Kanto, was given such a title, was music to his ears. Despite their differences, Dorian always held the man in the highest regard. He was an instrument of surgical precision, a valued member of Rocket.

Which brought him to this interview. Zev's recent promotion inspired the Mad Dog to try to better himself even more for Rocket. Title or no title, he wanted to be the most useful he could be, in the name of conquest.

Upon stepping into the office, Dorian greeted the God General with a respectful bow. A gesture drilled into him from his days as a Grunt in Kanto. "God General, my heartfelt congratulations on your promotion!", Dorian greeted Zev.

Zev's office was in a state of disarray so soon after his promotion. The metal frame of a large device occupied the center of the floor, its electronic insides only half-assembled. Only two items hung upon the wall: a large banner with Team Rocket's logo opposite the door; and a whiteboard with a map of Hoenn, sticky notes marking its surface with names and numbers. [break][break]

Everything else was still in boxes, scattered along the perimeter of the room. [break][break]

Zev himself sat at his desk, surrounded by stacks of paper—reports he'd requested from various departments that could contribute something to the war effort. He looked up from his laptop upon Dorian's entrance, his hands growing still on the keyboard. [break][break]

"Westcliff," the general said in greeting, not bothering to acknowledge the extended congratulations. He had never been a man for small talk. [break][break]

Instead, he gestured to the armchair on Dorian's side of the desk, a silent invitation to sit. "Your email mentioned an interest in S.P.E.C.T.R.A."

When directed to do so, Dorian took a seat at the designated spot. Aside from a scan around the office, Dorian paid little mind to the clutter around him. If anything, it showed just how busy the God General was. How much he was taking in.

"Yes, I was interested in joining, God General.", Dorian told the man.

"I wish to be as useful to Rocket as I possibly can. And having the training needed to take on opposing Avatars, I feel, would make me that much more useful to the cause.", Dorian elaborated.

Zev cast a critical eye at Dorian from across the desk. There was no doubt of the other man's skill; the Mad Dog was a veteran of Kanto. Anyone who had trained under that branch of Team Rocket was capable of callous atrocity. [break][break]

But even the most battle-hardened Kanto soldier had little experience against Avatars and their gods—something the fresh troops being transferred to Hoenn would soon learn. [break][break]

Which was why Dorian was a valuable asset. His tenure in Hoenn meant exposure to those gods and vessels. Zev saw no reason not to pit him against them. [break][break]

The general did not say any of this, however, nor show it in his expression. And when he spoke, he said in a cool, even tone, "You've been in Hoenn for some time now. What's been your experience with Legendary Pokémon and Avatars? Whether on the League side or on our side."

"I've witnessed the power of Avatars on both sides.", Dorian began. "On the League's end, I dealt with Tapu Lele's current Avatar, John Sullivan, multiple times. The first time, I discovered he had the power to regenerate his own flesh. The second time we fought, I discovered that he could also heal others. After having my face blown off in an explosion, he healed it, and attempted to take me prisoner.", Dorian revealed, explaining why he no longer had his burn scar around his eye.

Thanks to Smoochie Duckie's evolution at that moment, the Magmortar was able to separate the two, and get Dorian out of there.

"As for our side, during our battle on the islands last year, I fought alongside fern delaney, and his blackened Tapu Koko. Watching the man operate, the powers he utilized, was frankly awe-inspiring.", Dorian remarked.

"Of course, I was there on Mt. Pyre, during our attack on the Primal Point. It was there that I witnessed Father Winter, and his use of Palkia. And his death at the hands of a certain prince's powers, granted to him by Zekrom. This was before that backstabbing prince turned on us.", Dorian added, referring to Remiel Calcifet with scorn.

At the mention of John Sullivan, Zev recalled his own battle with Tapu Lele's Avatar on the waters of Route 105. Doug had been the only person to injure Zev using his powers, forcing the Devourer to flee and recuperate. [break][break]

"So you've faced an Avatar not once, but twice, and managed to survive. That's a considerable feat for an ordinary man." [break][break]

The general crossed his arms over his chest, his expression contemplative. [break][break]

"Considering your career record within our organization, I see no reason to deny your application. You'll still need to go through the rest of the assessment, though your participation in the recent Gauntlet trial should shorten that." [break][break]

Zev tapped a few keys on his laptop to bring up Dorian's profile. "In terms of fighting Avatars, is there any area where you feel you're especially lacking?" he asked.

"Even without his powers, the boy was trained well. And - highly motivated, at that.", Dorian remarked.

Dorian reflected on the revelation that he was unwittingly responsible for ruining his life. How his usual acts in Kanto had caused the deaths of many of his friends. Children, just as the soldier was at the time. A line Dorian despised crossing, a line he couldn't help but feel remorse over crossing, when it did happen.

Dorian nodded to Zev, as he spoke of how he'd have to go through the assessment, just as everyone else did. It was expected.

"Where I'm lacking? I suppose, in terms of my 'kit', I'm a Fire-specialist. So normally, if I were to be pitted against an Avatar of a type advantageous to Fire-types, such as a Water or Rock-type, I'd be in trouble. Though it does come at the benefit of being better equipped to deal with, say, Ice or Grass-type Avatars. And tooling my Pokemon to compensate for their weaknesses helps.", Dorian began.

"Though in general, I'd say that my sadistic nature could be an issue. As you are well aware, I tend to - relish my duties. And I'm aware that could be a problem, when dealing with highly dangerous individuals, such as Avatars.", Dorian followed up. "Other than that, my lack of formal training may present a problem, though I've been working with Admin Cross, and others, to refine myself as a fighter.", Dorian added.

He reflected on his scrap with Amor Rose. How he wasn't able to land a single good hit on the man. And how badly his initial scrap with jayden cross went, which lead to their training sessions.

It was a significant wound to his pride, something he did his best to patch up.

Zev listened without interrupting, his expression neutral as he observed Dorian with a critical gaze. When Dorian finished his self-evaluation, Zev gave a single nod, accepting the answer. [break][break]

"Continue your training with our Avatars," he instructed. "Learn to curb your enthusiasm for blood in situations of extreme danger. You're a valuable asset, Westcliff. Do not put yourself in a position to ever become a liability." [break][break]

A few clicks marked Dorian's profile as eligible for S.P.E.C.T.R.A. missions and training. [break][break]

"It's done. You can take S.P.E.C.T.R.A. assignments now as part of your assessment," Zev said, sitting back in his chair. "Was there anything else?"

When Dorian received his answer, Dorian nodded. "Affirmative, God General!", Dorian answered back.

With those few clicks, new avenues had been unlocked for Dorian. An opportunity to prove himself to the organization he devoted his life towards. New ways for him to contribute to the takeover of Hoenn, then the rest of the world.

"That will be all from me, God General. Thank you for the opportunity.", Dorian answered his superior respectfully and gratefully.

If he were to be dismissed by Zev, Dorian would get up from his chair, giving the man a respectful bow before leaving. If not, he'd stick around for however long Zev needed him to.

Zev turned his attention away from both Dorian and his laptop, resuming his earlier task of sorting through the reports on his desk. He did not look up even as the other man left the office. [break][break]

War was almost upon them, and there was still so much to do.
