Der pokémon are returned to Fenelle quickly, and dee quickly moves onward - ignoring the Rocket grunts that look at dem with a hint of confusion.

Fenelle is unhearing of the screams, but they resonate in that little psychic that Metagross still casts. More careful now, just enough to let dem know of their surroundings, anything dee should hear. But dee can tell it's shaken - hell knows that dee is, too. Keep calm, dee thinks for Metagross to hear. There's no room for second guessing.

(And unbeknowst, there's been a connection made. A steel mind in troubled waters seeking out a mind of familiar compassion.)

And a ping. But there's little time when it comes to a pokémon as fast as the Pikachu. The Metagross and Fenelle are hit by the attack, stumbling as float to a stable position again, turning now, for the first time, to their enemies proper.

Evil is so mundane.

A young adult with dishevelled, dark blue hair and unassuming clothes, clinging onto a Metagross that, by all signs, could be crying. Nothing that speaks of "evil mastermind" in this moment of widened, golden-yellow eyes and lost composure.

An image that holds for a heartbeat, before a Hisuian Goodra appears in a red beam, roaring with retaliation. Fenelle looks surprised at its appearance, however, still gathering their bearings as he appears. But it's good - der hands reach for the Tera Orb in der inventory, activating it to let the mad Hisuian Goodra assume Ground-type for now. Coated in crystalline glow, the Goodra uses a fierce Mud Shot to slow the Pikachu down - maybe even reducing its speed to zero fully.

As Fenelle looks at the path dee's come from, now taken up by Livy and Morales, dee freezes for a moment. (Cease, thoughts.) Dee needs to focus on one thing alone - survival. Now it doesn't- it doesn't matter. Dee taps der Metagross so it could use telepathy to say.

THERE'S NOTHING TO DEFEND HERE ANYMORE.

A shaky breath, and dee hits another command on der device for the Genesect - the distraction to another location didn't work, so they might as well come here now.

At long last, Fenelle would have the honour to have met all the three ruinous avatars. It's something dee would rather not, actually. Coming actually face to face with them, dee wonders what the hell dee has thought, constructing this whole play. Dee must have been truly arrogant to think dee could get away with it fully ...

As dee manages to steady demself enough on der Metagross, who now takes over the job of letting Fenelle know what's been spoken. But it trembles still even as the flight stabilises as Fenelle's vision fills with red and Penny's words.

A scarlet shade that stabs dem with Ls and Vs that tilt and get mixed up with one another. Different, yet both just lines with a knack in them.

However, the clearness of a Metagross cry bellowing from underneath dem makes them remember - and electricity crackles with an Electrify in an attempt to save the Hisuian Goodra from the attack, a move that, in fact, is also tied to connection for the Metagross. It could communicate computer language from its own psychic steel body to an actual computer, use it to speak to Rotom beyond the psychic connection.

But the Wyrdeer wouldn't be able to make any sense of the crackling electricity.

And it's too late, as the Shadow Ball hits the Hisuian Goodra, making the dragon crackle with bright light. Fenelle quickly recalls it before he would become target of attacks that would actually kill him - now's not the time. Seeing Ollie and the Pikachu's unconscious body, dee forces demself not to pause for this moment.

Dee calls for an Orthworm now, hands lingering on the Grimmsnarl ball but not yet ... dee can't risk losing der ace now, even if it's hard to figure out how to escape from this situation at all. At least the Orthworm specialises in survival - and it's to his advantage that Shrapnerl and Debris starts falling down from the sky, interrupting the battle for a moment that the steel worm uses to use Harden to up its defense.

A moment for Fenelle to switch into focus battle mode. A moment for the Metagross to soak in the emotions dee briefly touches again, as dee sees der way back home from the playground light up in flames. The orphanage isn't too far from here. A belated sentiment of flowing destructive lava that will cool down to hardened resolve. But right now, there's only an incoherent cry.

And then, the buzzing and whirring of machines fills the air.

Just as Penelope does something a squadron of Genesect arrives - a number enough to fill the narrow street. But instead of facing their enemies, they all, slowly, turn to Fenelle upon landing.

The Metagross realises quicker what's happening, and its eyes turn to Ollie - still grieving over the fainted Pikachu. A desperate attempt in a whirlwind of unusual emotion, it taps the connection from earlier. A plea.

Ollie's words are a ringing of consciousness in Fenelle's mind. Something dee has rarely ever possessed after leaving the orphanage - or maybe even before. After all, one would have need to ask why parents might abandon their child. Even if living in the orphanage isn't bad, looking at other families there's always been an empty hole that dee stopped questioning a long time ago. And then, a new family. The best sibling in the entire world, with parents that make dem almost okay with none - only their child, der sibling, gives them a saving grace.

A person who grew up in a golden cage. But golden it still was, nonetheless, with everything one could ask for.

An immediate, resolute answer to Ollie's last question carried by telepathy, as magma covers the streets that quietens the sounds in der head. A word also directed at demself as der expression contorts with horror, eyes squinting at PENELOPE LIVY in particular- Envy radiates from her, envy that takes root in this moment, closing around her heart. But not for them who is the most important person in der life.

The Bulldoze shakes the Earth, and even hits the floating Metagross as it couldn't gain more height fast enough. The new shakings throw Fenelle around some more again, and a stone edge manages to cut der arm open, leaving a mark of redhot blood that sinks into der clothing.

A Blastoise trains its cannon on dem, but almost simultaneously, several Genesect start raising their cannonry as well. But the Metagross is slow. Orthworm knows that, too, and starts a Sandstorm to obstruct Fenelle from view, but he, too, is out of his depths at what to do as the sand rises.

And Techno Blasts are fired.

An inferno of explosions and light takes all of Fenelle's sight. Der grip doesn't stand a chance against the violent shaking as the Metagross is hit, but there's one flash brighter - an interference? Dee can't process that thought further until dee is already falling.

An alarmed Orthworm gets rid of the Sandstorm, enabling clear view of the ground below-

And then just the very same beacon of hope, also known as ollie morales, from before. It's ridiculous.

And for one moment, it's comfort as well.

Hope your story isn't a tragedy, too.

A last psychic message from Fenelle to Ollie before the Metagross fully retreats into its own - not fainted, but barely alive by a hair.

Dee doesn't fall on hard ground, possibly breaking more than eighty percent of the bones in der body, but is instead caught. In that brief moment without animosity, dee signs, Thanks.

But being here also means being closer than ever to Penelope's ever-radiating aura of envy, it seeps into der brain more than before. An alien force awakening feelings dee has long since left cold. It doesn't bother dem that kepler brueshaber won the SPECTRA gauntlet, a victory that should've been ders. Dee isn't envious of Ollie having grown up happy and well to have a heart.

Dee shouldn't be.

Der mind a mess of confusion with a source that is clearly there in forms of a red-roaring flame.

Chilling hatred coats der mind with ice flowers.

The reality of der situation makes itself known again. No matter how beautiful a moment, dee won't stay here. There's no telling what will happen to dem after capture.

Dee catches eye contact with Orthworm, signing a quick command. Behind Ollie and dem, this would make itself known as an Orthworm that has sneaked up to the Silvally. And momentarily, a Grimmsnarl would appear by his side, as they tag-team to take out the Silvally with Iron Tail and Spirit Break, aiming for its weak spots. (They're formidable foes and allies - dee knows their weak spots.)

In this moment of chaos, dee uses Ollie's focus on Penny and her pokémon to struggle to get free, jumping onto the ground and simply running as a click recalls the Grimmsnarl again- but for the Orthworm, it might be too late as der finger wanders in a mad dash away.

The world was ending, and it didn't matter.

The small neighborhood of pleasant memories and white Pickett fences was burning. Flowers beds, freshly plucked ferns and trees - all ash, churning in the bittersweet breeze. And it didn't matter, because victory was rising, shimmering in all its beauty.

The genesects sounded of church bells. Together, in a chorus of unified chaos, they swarmed the spotlight. Their designated prey.

Again, Penelope's tongue glided across the cracks of her lips. Their deep ridges offered comfort against the storm collecting before her. She'd been here before - so close, yet so far from the end.

"Ollie, back up," she glared at the head ranger, venom deep in her voice, "this is what she wanted. She asked for this the moment she attacked the island. Talking to her won't change that." Snapping her sights back onto Fenelle Miller, Penelope's voice returned to its vigor, cutting straight through the numbing static, "RIGHT? This is what you fucking wanted? To hurt us? Hurt this city? "

Her body begged to step forward. Ollie was getting too close for comfort. Confirmation made anxiety easier to bear, like a bullet to silence a bleeting mareep.

But they didn't deserve the honor of a finishing blow. Down, they'll go, straight to pits of hell. Devoured by the very jaws they commanded.

Then it happened.

All in slow motion, her eyes widened at the sight. A blur of gold, knife to the back, kindness was delivered on a platter of shattered promises.

"Ollie!!"

Existence became jealousy. An illness sustained by injections of self-hatred, clogging veins, squeezing her lungs. A hand reached out, fingers spreading like a fan, clawing into the smoke.

Then, in a snap, reality gained speed. Penelope kicked Silvally into a sprint, and together they reached toward the commotion, not fearing retaliation.

Power slammed into Silvally a split second later, returned by another arrow of RUINATION gunning for the exposed Orthoworm. She doesn't look back as she stepped closer to him. Sometimes a pawn requires sacrifice to take out a bishop.

Avatar and patron, two beings of the same origins. Together, they commanded the earth to split. Together, they sent forth LAVA PLUMES toward the escaping woman. Together, they sought to solidify their revenge.

The world indeed is ending.

Caught between a glowing rock and a fiery place, Fenelle does der best to scramble away as possible - but even without the Metagross upholding a connection, without Rotom telling dem, dee knows from the heat chasing dem that Livy is right at their heels, and livid. In this moment, there nothing left but panic as dee drags der injured body onward, onward- until dee stumbles, and the heat stops just short of dem. Rotom escaped the wristwatch and used Ominous Wind to direct the flames as their intensity lessens.

Through crackling, hungry flame, dee can see two figures hurrying away. The space center.

Ultimately, dee failed the mission.

Livy's words resonate and mix with Morales' in der mind as dee stares at the inferno around dem. The haze makes dem see visions of der youth. Jumping from shadow to shadow, sitting and hugging a wall until a kind stranger would come and walk with dem so dee could make it back before everything turns into shadow. Memories of a ball, carefully balanced on der head.

Dee did this. They did this.

Der hairs stand on end even amongst the flames, felt with a chill coming from der mind, and spreading. Der Metagross taps dem, hoisting dem up on its back again as it barely floats. Before the flames could melt the beaten Orthworm further, dee recalls the steel worm, as well, tapping the pokéballs dee has still. Rotom returns to the wristwatch and updates Fenelle on what dee has missed in a brief explanation.

Sootopolis ...

They'd have to go. And as they leave, dee leaves behind.
