"What kinda stuff do we have that you don't in Unova?" Besides ultra space; there was no way Unova had that stuff. Well, and maybe they lacked paradoxes. And the tera stuff. OK, there might be a lot that didn't have. "Hoenn's pretty crazy," she conceded, "but we're also, like, center stage in the world, y'know? All of these legendary pokemon are focusing their attention here. Something's going on."

She tried not to sound so scared. As they walked underneath some trees, she flinched at the added weight to her head - and instinctively grabbed the Skwovet that had jumped onto her. She giggled. Then, she nudged Montgomery. "I know you're his Deputy - he really talks highly of ya. I just... I don't know. Navy does a lot of Ranger stuff. He does quite a few rescue missions. If you ever wanna get into wildlife preservation stuff, I'd love to show you how we Rangers handle business." She loved taking people to power spots. The freaky stuff in there really spoke to her.

Robin offered to get him involved into Ranger programs, something that he hadn't considered. Montgomery had been so focused on the safeguarding of the citizens that their Pokemon were almost an afterthought. He didn't reveal that to her, though. "I wouldn't be opposed," he said.

Her gaze went distant as he mentioned shadow pokemon, not even seeing the way the Pichu ahead nuzzled her Flutter Mane, who returned the gesture.

She came back to the conversation as he responded with an open mind to Ranger missions. "Good," she said softly, "I'll extend an invite if I'm doing a rescue mission soon. I've seen a lot of reports in Dewford because of the displaced pokemon and all." Dealing with the upset wildlife was an easier task than telling people their loved ones were lost in the Dewford freeze, so she envied the officers of Dewford not one bit.

"I have a shadow pokemon," she finally confessed, "Toxtricity. Happened when he was a Toxel, and I still don't know why or how. But I love him." Using him had gotten her disqualified from Josh Devlin 's gym. She still hadn't forgiven him for the slight, for the horrible things he'd laid at the feet of Toxtricity and all shadow pokemon. "They're not instruments of war. They're different, but they're not monsters. You need to know that." She looked at him with an unusual stoicism.

[attr="class","monty"]Ranger duties would be easier for him to handle. But, Montgomery felt like he owed it to the people of Hoenn to give them a shot at seeing who he was behind the mask he wore in Unova. To meet Montgomery James, not Montgomery or "Nine."

He was determined to leave "Nine" buried in the grave alongside everything else back home.

As he encountered the GASTRODON, who seemed peaceful along the waterside, Robin spoke again. His brows rose, turning to regard her with a curious look. There seemed to be some hidden guilt when she mentioned her TOXTRICITY. What he understood was the shadow Pokemon were filled with emotions of hatred and anger, unlike their ILLUMINA counterparts.

"If you treat 'em right, what's the deal of him being SHADOW? I'm sure they are a bit more... difficult to work with, but they're still Pokemon." The GASTRODON roared in agreement.

"Though, all Pokemon can be used for war. Be careful."

She hadn't realized how much weight she'd put in his opinion until he accepted shadow pokemon. It felt like a weight off of her chest. She was too tired of defending her team and her choices. "Exactly," she echoed, but she sobered as he warned that all pokemon were instruments of war when it came down to it. "But you're right."

She looked to Flutter Mane. "All pokemon are tools in war. They didn't start this fight, but they'll end it." People were angry, greedy, stupid. The world paid the price for it. "I never thought," she said with the soft innocence of naivety, "that we could end up in a war like Kanto."

[attr="class","monty"]"Kanto..." While Montgomery had never been to the region, the name was synonymous with war. Every region knew about the fall of Kanto, he felt like. With the Rocket win, he remembered his group feeling empowered.

Could they prevent it here?

"Hoenn won't become a Kanto. Not if we can help it," he said, his SKARMORY looking up at his trainer with his new demeanor. "Not if I can help it."

His conviction was a comfort. Still, she couldn't help but think that they had all, in the League, wanted to keep Hoenn from becoming Kanto. And they were here anyways. She didn't keep voicing the negative thoughts, though. They had enough voice in this region.

"Hoenn's got something Kanto didn't." She watched Flutter Mane harass further wildlife. "We have an example to go off of. Mistakes from others that we can learn from." She hadn't felt confident when she started speaking, but her own determination came full force. "We know what happens when we don't succeed, so we know exactly what we're willing to lose to avoid that." There would be no half-measures in Hoenn.

She sensed the topic shift. Her intensity only grew where war was contained, but she knew it could be off-putting. Hell, her thirst for all things horror and ghostly also threw people off. "Eh, ghost hunting and general Ranger-ing and all that fun stuff. There's not much to explore or discover out here since I'm born and raised Dewfordian, but that cave - the one with the ice disaster not too long ago - that warrants more exploration." I don't want to spend too much time in proximity to my family, she doesn't say aloud.

A Pikipek's screech forces a flinch out of her, but Flutter Mane silences it with a mean look and gives Robin an opportunity to toss a pokeball and shut it up completely.
