the moon hung high above the rustboro streets. most of its residents slept, but she knew a pair of noble eyes remained open, witness to the stars and the ghouls that roamed the night.[break][break]

porygon’s teleport was a bright flash, though concealed around the corner. after returning it, there she waited for the right moment, before emerging from the alleyway. the glow cast by a street lamp added more depth to her inky silhouette as she stood beneath it. [break][break]

“princess elise. what a pleasant surprise. rather dark for a lonely stroll though, isn’t it?”[break][break]

she pushed back the hood of her jacket, its shadow falling away from her pale face. elise would likely find her familiar from their peaceful conversation in the ultra plant rift.[break][break]

When Rustboro’s residents were asleep, the ambassador gets out of a late night shift at the embassy. Night time was always the favorite time that her ghosts would be out to play around or they’d accompany her on the walk out of the grand building. Other people would’ve called her the odd one for preferring the night than the daytime.[break][break]

But this night, a visitor comes from the alleyway. A dark-haired woman that she knew too well from their conversation back at the Ultra Plant’s space.[break][break]

“It was a late night shift at the Galarian Embassy, so I stayed until I can finish my work and go off on my way.” She greets the other woman. Some would say that she’s much too meticulous to bother in going for normal work shifts, but her royal duty keeps her from having to go home at a normal time.[break][break]

“But yes, I wouldn’t mind your company.”

When Elise had first told ollie morales about it, the Head Ranger had given his concern that it would be too much due to her diplomatic responsibility as an ambassador. With the fall of Petalburg, she wanted to keep Rustboro City safe and out of Rocket’s hands. There were still people that told her to go back to Galar, but she remained here in Hoenn.[break][break]

“Yes, I came into their enlistment a year ago and was recently promoted. It’s a very busy life, both as the royal Galarian Ambassador and a Ranger Captain of this city, but I’m confident that I can protect this city with its gym leader.”[break][break]

A reply comes from the ambassador when the dark clothed lady trails with her like a shadow into the night. Remiel himself would lead life as an archaeologist now, he was free of politics for a change. She’s happy to take up the post of the former ambassador as long as Remiel came to teach her about it.

From the time that Elise battled with CIAN MAHER at the Vital City Tournament, the Rustboro gym leader appeared to be an affable man. His Froakie was one of the more harder opponents she faced due to how trained the frog Pokemon was. The ambassador figures that he would give her a challenge when she can take on his gym.[break][break]

“Are you insinuating that Mr. Maher would abandon his people here if he got the chance to escape his doom?” That was a terrible thought, one that reminds her of Remiel’s apparent abandonment of his countrymen too. “If Mr. Maher runs away, I will continue to protect Rustboro and its people.”

Maybe that would be a foolish decision. Fighting was not her strong suit and she’s more of a medic who helped people on the sidelines. Luckily, she does have Pokemon who protect and fight for her.[break][break]

“I am sure that the League’s Calyrex has faith in my abilities to lead and in doing so, he has his trust in me. As a King, he has so much experience and I’m trying my hardest to show him how much I’ve learned from my cousin’s teaching.”[break][break]

Even Remiel himself had acknowledged that the student had exceeded the master.

perhaps one might expect they’d also be quick to apprehend someone like her in the darkness of said protected city. yet, the diplomatic calcifets had been known to stray, liking to have their cake and eat it too. was elise truly any better than her brother?[break][break]

they drew closer to an alleyway. ahead, feathers fluttered through the veil of night. a bird’s silhouette hung vaguely in the air, growing slowly closer.[break][break]

“did you do something to gain its trust? tell it a story a story it liked maybe? or was it simply a leap of faith in the crown?”[break][break]

There was a time that she did wish for a utopian existence for her country where everyone else lived happily without all worries of the Darkest Day’s aftermath. While Remiel had run away from his responsibility as heir and because of his desire to pursue archaeology, his mother was the most upset. [break][break]

The prince has told her, his cousin, that she was the most suited to be the perfect heiress. Better than he was. Yet. he was still heir by title and didn’t seem to relinquish it even when the Galarian princess offered to shoulder the country’s future and to relieve the burden of being the future ruler.[break][break]

“I suppose the League’s Calyrex had been listening to the tale I gave him about my concerns for Galar’s future.” She answers the dark-haired woman’s question just when the princess is led to the alleyway. “And since he is a ruler himself, he saw that I had potential as the High King wishes to see how I handle the burden of being a ruler myself.”[break][break]

Even now, the care and love she had for her people and country outweighed the guilt she felt from people’s questions of Galar’s royalty being in Hoenn instead of their homeland.

there was an odd shift to her tone, the veil of neutrality falling away in a cold breeze passing between the two of them. it was vaguely threatening, a glimpse of a wolf beneath the wool.[break][break]

the noctowl’s silhouette grew large. however, in the dark, it was difficult to know it was flying straight for them until it was there, swooping low with glowing eyes set to hypnotize its victim.[break][break]

lulu stood by to catch the princess, and drag her into the shadows of the alleyway conveniently beside them.[break][break]

“And yet, you’re still here.”[break][break]

Those were always the words of people who questioned why the Galarian ambassador was here when she should be helping her country back home. She should be putting her funds into the country’s disaster relief and lifting the people’s sorrows from losing their family members to the scourge of the Darkest Day.[break][break]

Her answer was very simple. It was much like what freya morningstar spoke to her the day that she met with the councilwoman.[break][break]

“You may not think it…on a member of the Galarian royal family who seems to have selfishly abandoned her people and her country, all just to find her cousin to see how he is doing.” The ambassador says in an eerie calm seriousness in spite of how she’ll feel right now in rightful anger. “But I still fight for my people here in Hoenn. It doesn’t change my stance. Charles is proof of that, he has already won the hearts of many Galarians that adore him.”[break][break]

A Noctowl swoops down from the dark and the ambassador does not have the time to react. Hypnosis from the eyes of the Noctowl takes her over and her body grows heavy. She feels sleepy when she looks onto the hypnotizing stare of the owl Pokemon before her eyes drew to a close.[break][break]

In her sleep, she feels herself getting dragged by the same woman that talked with her on their trip to the alleyway.
