Josh guffawed at the idea of Area Zero being a training ground. "Pffffff," he spit, "it's much too dangerous for that. I've been begging the Rangers to put up signs all around the Giant Chasm's entrance warning people of how bad it gets. Those paradox Pokémon are no joke!" The number of times others saved his life had been saved down here were more than he wanted to admit. "Navy, current Elite Four, saved me when I was trying to make friends with Raikou here," he continued, stroking the Raging Bolt's long neck.

The Gym Leader sighed as he saw a squawking Archen being harassed by a Scream Tail giving chase. "That's how much I love them. I've admired Raikou, Entei, and Suicune -- the Johtonian ones -- since I was a child. Especially Raikou." At his mention, the RAINBOW FEATHER scintillated the same colors as the Terastal crystal around him. Josh began visibly sweating, not wanting to overwhelm his guest with a legendary Pokémon's presence... but his inner self wanted to unleash Swift upon the invading paradox Pokémon!

"At the bottom of Area Zero, there's a particularly large crystal formation that can manifest Terastal replicas of legendary Pokémon. The last time I was down here with Andrea Vaneau , I got to ride on the back of a Terastal Raikou. It was every bit as fast as I had dreamed." It was growing increasingly difficult for him to resist showing Xuying the ashen replica the more he talked about the experience, his right hand trembling as he and his inner consciousness clashed...!

The researcher only hums somewhat non-committally to the words spoken, though he figures that there is some kind of truth in there. Warnings can never hurt, even though getting down here has already been a bit of a struggle that he wonders how many truly wander off into the deep depths of Area Zero without knowing where they are headed to. He only had a little bit of a plan, for sure, but what about others? "I figure it could never hurt," he remarks eventually, more jovial in his tone than the other, "could also fan the flames of the forbidden and the dangerous, of course. Of course, not that this place itself isn't already a breathing red flag." Xuying may proudly - stupidly admit that he is one of the dumber, more reckless individuals on this earth, for sure.[break]

By this time, he figured that maybe, those three names that are constantly dropping must be something like the Forces of Nature that he somehwat knows from Unova. It still does not result in much any picture other than the Paradox version that Josh is riding right now, but he figures it's more than anything else. "Fair enough, childhood fancies do carry over into adulthood sometimes," Xuying muses with somewhat of a smile. He couldn't speak for himself, but he knows not to assume from himself unto others.[break]

Unlike Josh, the researcher finds himself rather steering away from the Scream Tail and the Archen, not wanting to get into an unnecessary scuffle between wild ones when he already has enough to deal with his own catches and the ones that bother him. "Hm? Oh ... that's interesting to hear," Xuying replies, unknowing of the kind of struggle that Josh might be experiencing right now - rather wondering just how big that crystal must be. And imbued with some kind of energy, it seems? Hm ... "Well, planning to go to there again?"

"Honestly, as much as I can," Josh sheepishly replied. "What child didn't dream of riding a legendary Pokémon? I wouldn't mind running into the Terastal Raikou again and showing him how much my skills have improved," he told the whitest of lies. With the RAINBOW FEATHER in his possession, he could do that at will. Perhaps it would unravel sooner than he wanted it to; if a particularly aggressive paradox Pokémon showed up, his hand may be forced.

While not a paradox Pokémon, a Coalossal did force the rider's hand, seeing it terrorize a defeated-looking Archen on the level below. Shaking his head, the Gym Leader clicked open another Cherish Ball. "Suicune, let's go!" Skillfully switching ride Pokémon by simultaneously withdrawing the Raging Bolt and sending out the Walking Wake, Josh landed in the seat hidden within the twin-tailed dragon-type's purple fur. With a daring leap and HYDRO STEAM flying from his tails, the Walking Wake crashed toward the fire-type enough to distract it from the Poké Ball he dropped in the Archen's direction. Hopefully he would be enough of a diversion to catch the terrified fossil Pokémon and get it to safety!

The researcher doesn't quite reply to the rhetoric question, leaving the answer in the air - to be honest, Xuying doesn't quite remember what he dreamt of when he was younger, memories possibly being overwritten in favour of all that is already happening. His interest in the Legendaries have never developed much, and the Unovian legends rather overwhelmed than enticed him, finding intrigue in the teachings of the coven instead. But what he merely notes is a "hmm, I guess so," as they continue on this strange journey throughout the possibly deepest cave that Hoenn has to offer these days. "I mean, who really knows? I guess anything can happen in this place."[break]

Xuying directs his Metagross to stay behind a little as Josh springs to action, from one Paradox to the other - finally catching a weakened-looking Archen, and the researcher hums in response, flying closer as he lets out a few laudatory claps. "Nice job," he hums, though his ears are directed more towards ... wait, what's that noise? For some reason, it sounds ... very close ...[break]

Nearly falling off his floating companion as he flinches, he doesn't know how he failed to notice the Fuecoco that somehow made it onto the Metagross as well, showing off her questionable singing skills. It looks so off-guard, Xuying only throws a Pokéball to make it stop singing - maybe later, he could indulge in this more, but his irritation is quite winning this time. Do Fire starters have made it a hobby to bully him? Maybe? "So ... where to?" he asks Josh as the path forks - to the left, and to the right.

Josh simply basked in Xuying Zhou 's praise as he led the way, a precise burst of steam from Suicune launching the Archen's Poké Ball into the air so he could catch it and send it back to his Pokémon Storage account. His Pokémon caretakers, such as beckett carlson , would be able to handle the rest. "Thanks," he replied, letting the speedy Metagross keep pace with the Walking Wake if they desired.

Josh remembered this fork from when he had explored Area Zero with Laurence Anderson , the DRK TRIAD's goons attacking him. "The left leads to an offshoot that dead-ends in a known paradox Pokémon nest, and the right leads deeper in," was the Gym Leader's answer. "Go whichever way leads you to why you came."

It seems that they both end up being somewhat lucky - though in the case of the researcher, he truly does not know why Fire starters have it out for him. How many more are lacking, in that sense, really ...? And how many more will be like the ones he caught so far, a mischievous bunch of menaces that are hell-bent on making his life unnecessarily difficult. Hopefully in his absence, the Torchic didn't just start a fight with another Pokémon ...[break]

His thoughts are interrupted when they reach a fork - one where Josh seems to know where the ways are headed, so that makes things quite simple. "Deeper in all the way," Xuying is quick to reply with a hum, pressing forth a little before waiting for Josh to take the lead, should he want to. But there is a curious Magnemite that floats around, and he is able to catch it unaware, freeing both most of the way ahead of them and also gaining one more specimen to study for his collection. In his leisure time. Whenever that may be.

As Josh led Xuying deeper and deeper into Area Zero, thoughts of a DRK Triad ambush, or running into another one of those legendary-like Pokémon, caused him to become increasingly more on edge. "I can't state enough how dangerous the wild Pokémon at the bottom of Area Zero are," the Champion reiterated as Suicune tromped downward. "Especially the ones that look like robotic clones of other Pokémon. They even give Gym Leader's trouble. If we spot one, we have to leave."

Further caution would come to the forefront of Josh's mind as a panicked-looking Blitzle galloped past Suicune from further down the trail, their closing speed frightening. "And I get the feeling there might already be one around." Would it be from Hoenn's distant past? Or the distant future? Or was it merely a powerful ordinary Pokémon?

The warnings of the other don't fall on deaf ears, but ... well, Katharina Strophe could probably have told him more about the specifics, too, and he might not have retained much such information. They all seemed so far and distant, pretty much out of his grasp and hence unimportant for his own being, but it seems that they are further and further treading on territory that might make him more or less acquainted with such creatures, whether he wants or not.[break]

"Why of the robotic clones moreso than the other possibility?" he is curious, however, wondering if Josh would deem the robotic clones more of a threat than whatever else there may be. However, his attention is just as easily distracted by the Blitzle, and further down the Archeops that flies by - fast, but not fast enough that Xuying wouldn't manage to throw a Pokéball, just in case he is able to get ahold of one of the fossil ones. "Uh - but, yes, definitely agree that we should leave before getting into a fight ..." Yeah, he may be insane and lack most senses of danger, but he is not that without his instinct for self-preservation. "Fought many such guys before?"

The other possibility being the very Pokémon Josh rode upon. "Do you mean the ones that are like Raikou, Entei, and Suicune? They're equally dangerous," he cautioned, despite how tame Josh's three dragons seemed to be. "The Sacred Swords are all psychic-types, and can be a lot trickier to engage. I'm not saying the other paradox Pokémon, like Roaring Moon, aren't dangerous, but those six are on a completely different level. They're some of the most challenging Pokémon I've ever raised, but their companionship is worth it." Especially to Josh, who valued speed most of all. An Iron Boulder's hoof thrusters could propel the mechanical bovine to incredible speeds. Speeds that might even impress Eduardo Hisakawa .

As Josh rode Suicune further down the trail, the bottom of Area Zero's main cavern came into sight, covered in ankle-deep water. "I actually raise five out of the six of them," Josh bragged; soon, that would be all six when Caladbolg joined his roster in the near future.
