The likelihood of just stumbling into Area Zero is probably not exactly high - there is no such a reason to do so, after all, if one cherished life and the body that one was given, and wanted to protect the very same. The every breath that was drawn. Now, Xuying wouldn't say that he is reckless when it comes to risking his own life for the pursuit of whatever his mind is throwing at him just then, but ... well. He also can't say that he is not just following the very whims of his everyday mind as the thoughts come and go. And one particularly intrusive one spoke of the pretty rocks that he could collect down here.[break]

Hence, his presence in the area - notebook all out, he hums to himself as he inspects a particularly pretty rock. It seems on the more mundane side of things than not, but there is still appeal in it for the researcher all the same. He could spend hours looking at every small detail of it ... just as he hears someone else around. Looking to see who's here, he offers somewhat of a friendly smile as he waves in somewhat of a greeting to the other, "yo! Also here to look at some rocks?" Probably not, but ... well, why not? Actually, why not ...

Josh was not there to look at rocks; he was in Area Zero for the first time since his injuries at the Prismatic Penitentiary kept him from going to dangerous spots like this one. While he couldn't go all-out with Swift yet, there was one electric Pokémon he could. And that was the one he was astride. Just as he was about to command the Raging Bolt to tear off into the Terastal caverns below, a man's voice stopped him; they appeared to be around the same age.

"Hi there!" Josh waved back, taking one hand off the Raging Bolt's reins. The electric paradox craned his head around, curious of Xuying Zhou . "Not exactly. I'm actually here to meet a Tersatal legendary Pokémon. I'm formally known as Champion Devlin or Gym Leader Devlin, but please, call me Josh. And don't mind Raikou here," he gestured toward the striped dinosaur cat. He did have the "real" Raikou with him (at least as real as an ashen facsimile could be), the RAINBOW FEATHER pinned to his blue Ranger uniform. Its scintillating gleam was as breathtaking as the rainbow-colored crystals themselves.

Xuying looks at the other through a ruby-coloured, transparent chunk of the stone he's analysing by pure sight right now, determined to bring it back to the Sturmes' Turmes current quarters in Hoenn to perhaps run some chemical tests before he puts it aside, properly looking at the unfamiliar duo. Not only does the Pokémon have quite a ... strange kind of appearance, of something he has definitely not seen before, he is also rather unfamiliar with the person that introduces him as champion and gym leader. But ... hey, wait, that probably means that they are strong, right? He stands up in a jiffy, patting off the dust of his pants before he wipes off the dust on his pants (did his actions bring any merit? One could only speculate), offering a hand to the other.[break]

"Pleasure to meet you and - uhh - Raikou, was it?" he looks over, internally running calculations and scouring through his mind for why the name sounds familiar, "it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is - Xuying, Xuying Zhou, or Zhou Xuying, as I would say, but you can also just call me XY, or XYZ." He pockets the rock as he pauses for a moment before trying to choose his next words carefully, "since ... we are both looking for something, so to speak, how about teaming up? I'm not the best fighter, to be honest, and since you mentioned you're a champion and gym leader ... Company is always nice, isn't it?" Is he making too large jumps in logic? Probably. But he delivers it with a smile, packaged in confidence, though deep down, he also is quite aware that it's a little bit of a wonder he has survived collecting the five rocks he had managed to gather thus far.

"Xyz works for me," Josh replied with a nod, his pronunciation of Xuying's name similar to the word "exceed". He raised his eyebrows at the Unovan mentioning he wasn't the greatest fighter. What was he doing there, then? Area Zero was dangerous. The Paradox Pokémon were no joke, even for Josh. Entei had come close to leaving him seriously hurt. Raikou the Raging Bolt felt right at home, the electric dragon relaxed as a house Skitty.

"What exactly are you looking for down here?" Josh asked Xuying. "This is not a place for novice trainers. Besides Terastal legendary Pokémon, there are plenty of Pokémon like Raikou down here." Ones that were more than capable of devouring inexperienced trainers, at that. It wasn't just Raging Bolt, Gouging Fire, and Walking Wake that were threats; Pokémon like Scream Tail could easily catch one off guard. "The terrain around here's quite rough, too. Got a Pokémon you can ride? They're really helpful around here."

Nodding as Josh settled on what to call him, the next question leaves him with something like a bemused smile. It's only right to ask why someone as him - as inexperienced in battle and such that he is - would be in such a place like here. "Simply put - science, I guess," Xuying replies with nonchalance that betrays the gravity of the situation. "I'm looking for certain types of rocks, is the longer answer - and there is no such thing as experience gained without the possibility of risk, no?" Is he spatting nonsense right now? Most definitely. There are easier ways - smaller magikarps to fish, one would say, but ... curiosity got the better of him. Hopefully that would not mean that the champion trainer would simply abandon him by the entrance because he's definitely going forth whichever one way. He hopes neither Ms. Pryce nor Katharina will have to dig up his corpse one of those days.[break]

A Pokémon he can rise? Scratching the back of his head, he releases the Metagross he typically use for transport. "It'll do, right? It's my smartest companion, too - the name's X, like the X on the front," he hums, knocking against the solid steel. Before he can elaborate any further, however, he notices a glimpse of sparkle rustling forth, eyes widening over the approach of two Pokémon he hasn't seen before. His instinct is to go and catch, though he only sees the Luxio, unaware of the Monferno.

While Metagross were not Josh's style, as he preferred a steed he could feel the moving muscles of, he respected it. The psychic Pokémon could move at incredible speeds, as well as read the mind of its rider. No reins needed at all -- just a perfect mental link was all the control one needed. Unsure whether Xuying's response was bravado or genuine understanding of just how risky delves deep into Area Zero were, he went along with it for the time being. "Of the Terastal nature, I would presume?" he asked, waving toward X in greeting.

With what the Metagross was capable of, Josh felt a lot more comfortable accompanying Xuying Zhou deeper. "That Luxio, when she evolves, will serve you well," he remarked. "I raise one myself. Blitz is his name, and he's very reliable, both in battle and as a mount." Raikou craned his long neck toward the Metagross, sizing it up before facing forward at Josh's command. The Raging Bolt led the way deeper into the Terastal cave system... and not at breakneck speed for a change!

Thankfully, the other doesn't seem like he's about to send Xuying away from this sheer impossible journey that they're about to embark on, so he gestures for the Metagross to fly a little lower, hoping on as he makes himself comfortable on the flat surface of steel, sitting down in tailor's fashion with his legs crossed. "Hm? Oh, yeah - you could say that," he replies to Josh, "and any type of rock, quite ... There is also something interesting about the type of mineral those terastral ones are encased in, isn't there?" They certainly look quite pretty, some of the rock samples he collected thus far even shimmering in a kind of emerald ethereality.[break]

Catching the Luxio, he easily pockets the Pokéball for later documentation, looking at Josh and nodding at his words. Ah ... is he talking about Luxray? Not exactly what he had in mind, but - sure, perhaps, why not. "I'll keep that in mind! Gonna get the specifics of this evolution down first, though ..." Xuying hums as they go further into the caves. Every once in a while, he and the Metagross would fly closer to the cave's walls, collecting loose rocks and stones and hitting off some samples for him to examine in his leisure time.[break]

It's when he has a particularly shiny example in his hands, holding it against the lights that even seem to reach this place to analyse it further when- "Hey! What- now you wait!" he shouts out, the Metagross immediately going in pursuit after the rock-stealing Wattrel that makes his appearance. Xuying, with grim determination, is quick to throw a Pokéball at the bird, hmph-ing as he collects the ball. Guess he'll have to deal with both Pokémon and rock now ... Looking over to Josh, however, his face morphs to a friendly smile again, "so, what did you say about what you're here for again? Gonna battle them?"

Josh reined his Pokémon to one side so he could get a closer look at the crystals without dismounting from the Raging Bolt. Watching the crystal gleam and glitter different colors, he knew exactly what he was looking at. "These crystals are what Tera Orbs and Tera Shards are made out of," he answered. "It's why Pokémon can Terastallize here without a Tera Orb. You should give it a try while you're down here; anywhere else requires a Tera Orb, and they're prohibitively expensive for most trainers. Being a Gym Leader is the only reason I could afford one."

As a wild Wattrel soared away, Xuying Zhou quick to catch it if just to get his missing rocks back, Josh was quick to reveal his purpose for being in such a dangerous part of Hoenn. "I'm mostly here to get to know Raikou better," he gestured toward his mount and gave the long-necked creature a gentle pat. "Entei and Suicune, too. They all seem to find Area Zero calming."

Looking further at a couple of the tiny shards he has collected, it does seem that there is a certain gleam to a few of them that distinguish themselves from the more ordinary rocks that he favours to pick up every once in a while. He doubts that there'll be much he can do with the scraps he managed to get off the walls, though it doesn't hurt to hold onto it for now. "Hm ... interesting," he remarks in turns to the information shared by Josh, "that does make it doubtful that I'll ever be able to try it out outside of this cave. Let's see if the vibes are ever right for it, hm, my lad?" He knocks onto the Metagross' smooth surface, though he doesn't get much of an answer back. It is quite stoic, after all, and he can only vaguely sense something like an agreeing grunt from it.[break]

So the other's reason for coming here is the bond between him and his Pokémon, huh? Interesting ... "Why'd they find this place calming, though? Do they come from here?" he wonders out loud, though this is probably more of an expertise thing for Katharina Strophe if nothing else. Or maybe not? Who knows ...[break]

But just as he is catching a break from the rock-stealing Wattrel, he feels another threatening presence, an emberfire that burns and ... "Hey! Stop that!" he urges the Metagross to float higher as a Charmander seems to be following them, a bright fire not only coming from his tail, but also his mouth. Hoping it would make it stop, Xuying throws a Pokéball at the cheeky gremlin. Do Fire starters kinda hate him, or what?

Tera Orbs were prohibitively expensive before the war. With supply of them being eaten up by Hoenn's army, navy, and air force, it wouldn't surprise him to see a substantial price hike on Tera Orbs, Mega Accessories, and the like. Such was the nature of a wartime economy. "That is one thing that attracts Trainers to Area Zero and the other caves forking from it. Terastal Energy here is so dense that even wild Pokémon can Terastallize." With Pokémon being able to change their type at a moment's notice, constant vigilance was needed to avoid winding up on the wrong side of a nasty TERA BLAST.

"Indeed," Josh answered, recalling how he saved the Raging Bolt from a horde of paradox Pokémon with Navy 's help what felt like so long ago. What a whimsical twist of fate it was: not long after coming into possession of Raikou the Raging Bolt, the Great One blessed him with the RAINBOW FEATHER serving as the vessel for Swift the Raikou. "Raging Bolt, Gouging Fire, and Walking Wake, they're officially called. I long since speculated that they were long-lost regional forms of Raikou, Entei, and Suicune -- the Johtonian Beasts. "Fair enough," Xuying muses. Not a sentiment he can understand per se, considering his lackluster approach and nonexistent want of getting strong or better in any form of way in the way of Pokémon battles, but he can ... somewhat get behind what others must be thinking then. "Guess that makes it one heck of a training ground." He should probably look into that sort of rocks one day, but he's quite content with ... 'normal' kinda rocks, too, but maybe, Islwyn knows a thing or two that she wants to share.[break]

Now a flicker of memory about what Raikou, Entei and Suicine are comes to mind, though he still would definitely not claim to be much of an expert on such a thing. It's more a vague interest of something that does not have that much relevance to his home in Unova. Still, a few extra information don't seem too off hand to have. "Hmm ... I see, that sounds like a pretty confusing case of nomenclature to me, things can get so messy when you don't really declare things accordingly - but hey, if it works for you, why not, right" Xuying `muses. At least names and declarations are an area he is vaguely familiar - the chemists would be able to sing more of a song, but at least they have structure to it.[break]
