Despite his encounter with the ghostly figment that appeared on his draconid investigation with ameena abadi, he simply believed that there was just ghost-type Pokemon that had it in their nature to spook poor individuals along the way.

At least, that's what he was telling himself. He was trying to convince himself that the apparition that appeared before him, all too familiar, was the work of something like a hisuian zoroark who'd gotten lost in the caves.

So, when a report landed on his desk about UFOs appearing in littleroot town and livestock gone missing, he scoffed. "This is ridiculous."

He probably should've learned his lesson by then.

Montgomery showed up around sunset, since many of these reports claimed their livestock disappeared at nighttime. Until the sun disappeared, he decided to make a sort of make-shift camp, leaning against a tree outside the pasture.

The League had a maintained a decent buffer between Littleroot and the warfront thus far, but it didn't ease the prickle in Locke's spine as the sun began its slow departure. Darkness would make the region's invaders bold, while refugees took up what little respite the quiet town could provide.

Stuck between a risky flight home and a restless return to his old bench-hopping habits, late night alien spotting became the most appealing option.

Handing off the last package of the day, they let their Minior guide them through the darkening fields in the direction the old farmer had already pointed another towards, blue light revealing the watch camp and its lone occupant just as the last rays of sunlight dipped below the horizon.

"H-Hello!" they greeted unsteadily as they hooked one leg over the fence and hoisted themselves over the other side. "Are, uh, you here about the livestock too?"

"Yeah, the UFOs?"

Even saying it out loud was embarrassing.

The deputy glanced toward the field, where a herd of miltank began to doze off. The night air was cool, but it wasn't freezing. They looked comfortable amongst the grass and hay.

"Do ya have any info 'bout it? Heard or seen anythin' suspicious?"

Locke approached with a bit more confidence now that he was certain he hadn't interrupted some down on their luck refugee, taking a seat in the grass across from the stranger.

"Sorry, I'm not really a local I'm afraid," they admitted. "Locke Jamison, Delibird Deliveries. I just volunteered to help keep watch tonight.

"I did hear a couple folks talking about earlier though," they add after some thought. "None of the guards at the big hole where the theater was saw anything come out, so it's got nothin' to do with that at least."

"Montgomery, Dewford PD. Nice to meet ya."

Still, none of it added up. Livestock disappearing without a trace? Nothing to be seen from it?

"Do ya think it's really ghosts or somethin'?" He didn't mind picking at their brain a bit, while the sun finished setting.

There was a brief question in Locke's expression at the mention of a Dewford officer investigating aliens in Littleroot, one he politely refrained from asking. The small town was always short on law enforcement, and with Oldale having increasingly less to spare…

Well.

"I suppose it's not impossible?" they answer uncertainly. "Believe me, stranger things have happened here, and I'd trust the folks around to know if the Mightyena were getting bold…"

They absentmindedly tapped at their cheek, deep in thought, before suggesting, "Do you know if there were any signs of struggle? Blood, kicked up dirt, sounds of distress…?"

Locke inspected the photograph with renewed interest. It was such a simple set of shapes, and yet…

"I'm not sure where, but I'm sure I've seen this before…"

He racked his brain for a more concrete source, but the symbol was simply too vague to conjure anything specific to mind, and he was left humming and hawing over it until night finally consumed the area.

Night fell. He lit a small campfire, making idle conversation with Locke as they waited for their opportunity to strike.

Montgomery was about to smoke another cigarette when a rustling noise caught his attention, followed by the mooing of a miltank. He stood up, peering around the tree-

And spotting the cow floating. Above it, a beheeyem imprisoned it, using psychic powers to move it around the field.

"Let's go! Now's our chance!"

Locke scrambled to follow, having forgotten the purpose of their being here at all over the course of the conversation. The alien had the cow well-trapped in its psychic grasp, but they weren't short on means of capture either.

"Indi-Indi, surround it!"

The Minior immediately flew below the Miltank and its captor, ripping large sharpened stones from the ground and launching them upwards to encircle the alien. It halted mid-air just shy of slamming into the Stealth Rocks, turning its bug-eyed stare down at the offending creature as the multi-colored lights on its palms flashed in indecipherable patterns.
