Pain is dulled only for a moment by the dulled adrenaline. Whipping across the room, Kaida and her Pokemon hasn't even noticed the attacks trapping the floor, but they felt it as they approached the staircase. Warmth spread across Kaida's arm as a nauseous pain made itself known. A hissing cry came from Freya, clinging desperately. Stealth Rock had activated, and Kaida found herself with a shard plunged into her arm, which she decided to leave in a desperate attempt to retain blood. Freya found herself with a similar shard cutting deep into her back, only avoiding more injury by the speed that they had passed through, and that Sticky Web hadn't slowed them much. Hema wasn't as lucky, having to struggle through a web, Spikes peppered her underside, leaving a streak of red on the floor as she desperately continued after Kaida. It was only pain, they could handle pain! Vegetation grew under their feet and, while Kaida felt no change, blood loss did slow, and wounds did attempt to heal. [break][break]

Nonetheless, with her injuries and the attacks having been launched specifically to harm others, Kaida's face twisted into a snarl, baring her teeth. Someone was here to mess everything up, to ruin her mission. To harm this tree. She skidded to a stop before the people by the stairway, eyes flickering over each and everyone. Strangers. Strange Pokemon. Cillian Quinn marcel maeda and Emma Wolfe were in the way. The Shadow Sandslash growled at her and, in a moment of fury, an inhuman sound rumbled from her throat. "Don't threaten me!" She spit like venom, stomping forward and hiding her wound, "If you don't-" [break][break]

Her words died as a long groan shook the foundations, her eyes widening in a primal fear as her attention was suddenly on Hema and Freya. With the tree growing like that, it was only going to mean they'd fall, and then...-"Move. Get out of our way." Her voice was dull, but direct. An aloofness entered her gaze, the sheer amount of uncaring in her eyes being like she wasn't even looking upon her own kind, not even enemies. Her attention fixed directly beyond her blockers, standing still for only a moment before she pointed at the rubble blocking their escape point. She didn't stop even if anybody was in the way. Giving a few seconds, wasn't that enough to expect these strangers to get out of the way? "Freya!" [break][break]

It didn't matter if there was anybody in the way. This was an issue with her family, a partner. There was no way she was allowing them to be hurt for the sake of somebody else, especially harmful strangers. Freya reared up and spewed a great Flamethrower, her Nasty Plots beforehand lending additional heat to the attack. She had no way to clear the path otherwise. It might burn, it might be hot, but they were getting to safety. Like Kaida, she didn't pause to consider anything in the way, anything in the stairway. If it was survival, Kaida lead, and she wasn't wrong. [break][break]

However well the attack did, Kaida leapt forward, her Pokemon by her side. Hema's tail glowed a dark purple as she prepared Night Slash to clear anything else in the way. Kaida's path was clear, the moment the stairway had any space, she aimed to leap inside, saving herself and those following her. [break][break]

Kaida Adachi is perhaps kinder than their last encounter, ushering one of her snakes to assist the bumbling scientist. hema comes over quickly with gentle jaws clamping around the fabric of her cape. it's enough to pull her in their direction, enough to find secure footing and shuffle along with kaida's pokemon. a grateful smile is flashed in the woman's direction. she's touched, really. kaida didn't have to help her out but she did and it makes her feel a little warm despite the ice surrounding them.

and then, as the day seems to constantly be heading in this direction, things take a sour turn.

debris, spikes, rocks, webs. they all litter the ground before them, yet another obstacle to overcome. they almost look strategically placed for maximum damage and time lost. her kirlia tries to twist and twirl around them only to have one cut through her arm in the process. blood splatters across tiles and illeana is quick to gasp, quick to well up with tears. no. nonono. her movements are panicked, desperate, and perhaps that's what causes her to fall victim to the trap.

a rock rushes up as she scrambles to her kirlia's side, catching her through one of her exposed thighs and holding her hostage. spikes join the rock in cutting at her skin and really, she definitely should have worn something else now. cuts scatter across the skin of her arms and legs but the main thing that slows her down in the large piece of land stuck in her thigh. it elicits a shrill shriek of pain and she doubles over, hands scrambling toward the wound. "shit," she hisses. that hurts. damn it.

"custos," she whispers, not even sparing a glance back toward the shadows of her cape. her golett peeks out from beneath the fabric's shade, already pulling out of the darkness enough to assist. removing the rock isn't ideal, not in this type of situation. she doubts anyone has a spare med kit anyway... instead, she's gesturing toward the base of the rock with bloody hands. "break the rock. please." her tone leaves little room for questions and so, with as much care as the automaton can muster, it hits at the rock with a shadow punch. another shriek escapes as rubble breaks apart beneath the pressure of the blow, the rock breaking apart to allow her mobility once more.

and yet, before she can even think about moving, things somehow manage to get worse?

the building groans and rumbles, lurching in a way that isn't normal. she's stumbling at the trembling of the floor, struggling to find footing against the traps and unstable tiles. is... is the floor going to give out? oh god, please no. could they even survive a fall from here? would they get crushed beneath the rubble? her heart lurches into her throat at the thought and she's operating out of the pure need to survive now.

kaida has a similar reaction, rushing to overcome the obstacles keeping them from the safety of the staircase. illeana's trying in vain to rush after her. the movements are sluggish, slow, painful. she can't move quickly now, can barely even apply pressure to one leg. from somewhere behind them, green mist slowly rolls in over the floor. it's soothing in a way she can't place and perhaps there's some good in her sluggishness. the mist grants some relief from pain, some minor healing to lessen the injuries for both her and her former partner. virgo, too, feels the relief of green mist and soon, she's returning to the scientist's side. a quick glance toward the psychic type and she's pleading with whatever god or higher power might be around for this rushed plan of hers to work. "can you lift all of us with psychic?" virgo nods, although illeana isn't quite sure it won't exhaust the kirlia. they have to try, though... "lift the injured toward the staircase, please." the telltale purple glow of PSYCHIC radiates around her, around them, and virgo is struggling to lift them out of harms way.

only custos lingers where they once stood, the golett rumbling almost menacingly. it teeters forward with heavy footsteps and clay legs, all too intent on assisting kaida with the endeavor of clearing the way to the staircase. instead of focusing on those that block their path, however, it turns its attention to the rubble. the automaton lurches forward with SHADOW PUNCH ready and overtaking one hand, more than ready to break through the rocks blocking the entrance to the stairs.

After verifying that Emma was unhurt, Gavin turns toward the stairs — just in time to watch as they collapsed, blocking their path and separating them from Marcel.[break][break]

Alarm surges through him, but he carefully maintains his composure as he tries to think of a plan. The same cannot be said for Kaida Adachi; Gavin turns cold amber eyes onto the woman as she snaps at him, accusing.[break][break]

"It's not threatening you." Sandslash does not help its case, flexing its metal claws. It snarls as she storms forward, sensing furious intent. "You are stressing it out—"[break][break]

Speaking over her, Gavin, too, falls silent as he feels the floor tremble beneath his feet. Whatever Kaida says next is lost to Gavin's own survival instincts — Sandslash disappears in a halo of red, replaced by an Aerodactyl who flares her wings and looks to her master for command. Gavin clambers aboard the prehistoric beast, motioning frantically for Emma to join him.[break][break]

"We have to get off the ground!"[break][break]

Should Emma climb aboard, the Aerodactyl would do its best to get airborne.[break][break]

"Shift that rubble, now!"[break][break]

With a rumbling cry of affirmation, the Aerodactyl would attempt to gain control of some of the rubble using ROCK SLIDE, hoping to lift it and toss it out of their way.[break][break]

Ruby Walker attempts to protect the guards and marie jules. Below, Goro Shimizu's Tyrantrum DRAGON TAIL swings through openings in the severed branches to strike at the B1 floor. Ruby Walker, marie jules, FERNANDO SILPH, and the three guards experience some airtime- but her Hatterene is able to MEGA EVOLVE in the nick of time, using its heightened powers to help them land safely into the flaming, smoggy floor below them.[break][break][break]

ILLEANA, KAIDA, ALEXEI, SELENA

The combined efforts of illeana reyes, Kaida Adachi, and Alexei Ivanov allow them access into the staircase. on Alexei Ivanov's Pelipper, the flying-theme gym leader and Selena Desmarais hover into B2. The Pelipper is attempting to hold two adults; however, Alexei Ivanov will sense that the bird will not be able to sustain their weight for too long...[break][break][break]

Although several of you have suffered injuries, the adrenaline emanated from the tree keeps the pain from becoming too unmanageable (for now).[break][break][break]

MARCEL, EVA, DOM, PRIAM, ZACH, GORO, ATLAN - B1 COLLAPSE

as dominic sinclair's Houndoom's SMOG fills B2, marcel maeda, dominic sinclair, priam conrad, @zacharias, and Goro Shimizu are able to make it down the hatch to B3. Eva Dumont joins them too, and has her Orbeetle cast SAFEGUARD as a safety measure. On the other side, Katherine Fairburne and her pokemon too, manages to smash herself down to the third and final floor in dramatic scattering of ice.[break][break][break]

B1 collapses. beckett carlson prepares and finds cover under a sturdy table. Chunks of B1's flooring crash onto B2, which is now set aflame. Where the rubble has not covered, racks of clothes act as bonfires. Within the darkness of B2, it is difficult to find your way without intervention. Furthermore, priam conrad's Shiinotic's SPORE is drawn back into the room as the vents are exposed.[break][break][break]

GAVIN & EMMA

As Cillian Quinn sends his Aerodactyl out for Emma Wolfe to ride, the sudden chaos of the floor's collapse knocks him off the prehistoric Pokemon. Thankfully, Emma Wolfe's Zoroark's PROTECT manages to catch him in the nick of time— but it's only temporary. Cillian Quinn will fall into the floor unless Emma Wolfe or anyone else helps him in some fashion![break][break][break]

KAZIMIR

When the rubble falls toward Kazimir Wynter, a dramatic flash of green engulfs the room. From his body, the ZYGARDE CELL protects him. A verdant orb expands from his body as a barrier, and the chunks of ceiling break upon its shape.[break][break][break]

The rubble, smoke and flame obscure the hatch door which has been reinforced temporarily with Rocket's PROTECTs. However, the hatch door is blown back by Kazimir Wynter's ZYGARDE CELL activating. Kazimir Wynter may choose to move through the passage—if not intercepted—or loop back in the SMOG to find the opening created by Katherine Fairburne.[break][break][break]

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS

Those still in B2 (illeana reyes, Kaida Adachi, beckett carlson, Selena Desmarais, Emma Wolfe, Cillian Quinn, Ruby Walker, and FERNANDO SILPH) and their Pokemon may succumb to SLEEP or become POISONED if they traverse through the SMOG or SPORES to get to B3. They must somehow avoid them, or do away with them.[break][break][break]

THOSE IN B3

In the final floor, the roots of the tree are revealed. They pulse with an energy that seems to be drawn from the earth itself. There are 6 main roots. They are incredibly thick and dig deep into the earth.[break][break][break]

Despite the crawlspace's name, the space here is wide and vast. It is a place used for extra storage, which is evident by the cardboard boxes and metal carts used to shuttle goods from the ladder to other parts of the crawlspace.[break][break][break]

Katherine Fairburne can easily join the other Rockets, for there is ample space around the trunk to traverse around.[break][break][break]

Kaida covered her ears as the floor collapsed, face twisted against the awful sound that pounded at her skull. Amazingly quickly, it was over, and it was as if she only then remembered illeana reyes's presence, looking upon her with much curiosity and confusion. "Saving a Rhyhorn, now here to save a tree...you really should bring a bodyguard for dangerous things. Better clothes too. It's easier then." Her mind was wandering too much, focusing on the wrong things as she grimaced at the smell of blood pressing from nearly everyone in the stairway. The air smelled awful too, with the terribly pounding heartbeat, the bloody scent, and this smell, she really thought she was going to pu- [break][break]

The smell? [break][break]

Illeana's protection was well received, her eyes widening at her cry of something in the air. Kaida and her Pokemon pressed close, taking as much of the protection as they could as the duo inched forward. [break][break]

Unlike Illeana, she didn't focus on the plights of others, immediately focus on the floor, and how to immediately get off it. With her mind already focused on the task, she spotted the man who was causing a commotion earlier (Kazimir Wynter)...descending? "There!" She cried out, pointing as soon as Illeana wasn't preoccupied and trying to guide their protected team towards where she saw the man descend. [break][break]

Still, even when they got near the hatch, Kaida made no attempt to guide her team down it. There could be whatever number of enemies down there, and no allies. It only stood to reason, that they took initiative. "Freya. Poison down there." She could apologize to any allies later. [break][break]

The Salnazzle was a fearful Pokemon, and obeyed such an order quickly, aiming herself at the hatch and letting poison build under her skin. Sludge Wave exploded forward, and down the hatch, a veritable tidal wave of poison Kaida hoped would result in anything that was a danger to her team not being so much of a danger anymore. Due to Kazimir Wynter’s Mismagius’ PERISH SONG and Goro Shimizu’s Mime Jr.’s subsequent COPYCAT, the haunting wailing impacts every single Pokemon on the field. However, dominic sinclair’s Klefki is recalled to clear the moves’ damning effect. PERISH SONG will cause all Pokemon who have heard it (and do not have the ability, SOUNDPROOF), to faint in 4 ROUNDS.[break][break][break]

CLEARING THE HAZARDS

Those in B2 enter a hellish underworld. The poisonous gases, smoke and flames immediately force your bodies into a harsh sweat. Spores burn in the fires, but still threaten to seize your lungs. Around her, illeana reyes’s Arctozolt manages to PROTECT those nearest to her from being inflicted with the dangerous hazards, but the barrier will not hold for long...[break][break][break]

Thankfully, a pink mist spreads across the floor. They come from Councilman FERNANDO SILPH: the avatar powers bestowed upon him. The mist saves Kaida Adachi, beckett carlson, Ruby Walker, and Emma Wolfe from succumbing to POISON and SLEEP.[break][break][break]

Ruby Walker’s Gardevoir’s LIFE DEW diminishes some of the flames and allows illeana reyes’s injured thigh to heal some. The flames are finally extinguished by Alexei Ivanov’s Pelipper’s DRIZZLE ability as a Florges’ AROMATHERAPY perfumes the bitter smelling room.[break][break][break]

GAVIN, EMMA, KAIDA’S SLUDGE WAVE

As Cillian Quinn falls, his Aerodactyl swoops downward with a SKY DROP. It allows Emma Wolfe enough time to grab him as the prehistoric pterodactyl flaps its leathery wings. Below them, illeana reyes’s Golett, which was stationed to catch him, retracts its small arms when the man is deemed safe.[break][break][break]

beckett carlson’s Mawile and Rookidee prepare themselves while Kaida Adachi’s Salazzle moves to the hatch. A thick torrential flood of SLUDGE (WAVE) pours like a waterfall into B3, drowning the fizzing puddle of priam conrad’s spilled soda. marcel maeda’s Metagross MAGNET RISES, while his Sylveon’s LIGHT SCREEN protects Eva Dumont, priam conrad, @zacharias, dominic sinclair, and Kazimir Wynter’s locations.[break][break][break]

Eva Dumont manages to retrieve a soil sample and as the SLUDGE WAVE splashes onto the ground, she escapes the poison with her Orbeetle’s PSYCHIC. However, priam conrad, Eva Dumont and marcel maeda are struck by the sludge.[break][break][break]

Thankfully, a lingering SAFEGUARD from before and a newly established LIGHT SCREEN prevents them from being poisoned and from being injured too harshly. However, Kazimir Wynter and Goro Shimizu are still POISONED; they finds their strength diminishing as the poison courses within them. However, Kazimir Wynter can feel his Zygarde cell panicking within his body and wailing, as if calling out to something...[break][break][break]

The SLUDGE WAVE causes the terrain in the crawlspace to become slippery and stinging. B3 is now treacherous to traverse due to the difficult terrain.[break][break][break]

EXPOSED ROOTS

priam conrad’s Shiinotic and its STRENGTH SAP weakens one of the six roots around the tree. The bark around the root cracks— and the CORROSIVE SLUDGE WAVE expose its vulnerable cambium layer. Likewise, Katherine Fairburne’s Gallade finds similar success. After MEGA EVOLVING, the sheer power of a SUBZERO SLAMMER and her Morpeko’s dependable AURA WHEEL allows her to tear away the bark and reveal its cambium layer too. In total, two of the roots are exposed— and they begin to ooze a glowing blue sap.[break][break][break]

Unfortunately, Goro Shimizu’s Haunter will realize CURSE has no effect on the tree— or at least, whatever effects it may have are not visible yet...[break][break][break]

However, the soil is poisoned and the tree seems to be continually retrieving nutrients from the earth.[break][break][break]

FAIRY LOCK, ATLAN, ILLEANA, SMOG

dominic sinclair’s Klefki uses FAIRY LOCK through the hatch. illeana reyes is able to sense things going “south” and her prepared TELEPORT allows her and her team to move into B3 should she desire to![break][break][break]

beckett carlson manages to reach B3 safely thanks to his Aron’s PROTECT. His other two Pokemon are allowed to enter B3 too, if they have followed him. As he enters, he would see the trainers there before a Gengar (@zacharias) emerges from the shadows. Immediately, it casts SMOG.[break][break][break]

Vision in B3 is obscured; however, beckett carlson may find themselves being poisoned should they linger in the SMOG. illeana reyes and beckett carlson will need to make a HAZARD ROLL if they remain in the SMOG.[break][break][break]

A DINOSAUR AND A WITCH

B2’s eastern side trembles with every stomp of Goro Shimizu’s Tyrantrum. The dinosaur lunges with its terrible CRUNCH. However, Ruby Walker’s Gallade moves in to knock it off course. Instead, the Gallade takes the CRUNCH as Goro Shimizu’s Tyrantrum is bombarded with FERNANDO SILPH’s Greninja’s WATER SHURIKEN. Swiftly, the Mega Evolved Hatterene strikes with its G-MAX SMITE. Stars, like nuclear strikes slam into the Tyrantrum, causing it to roar in agony.[break][break][break]

Goro Shimizu’s Tyrantrum is now SEVERELY HURT- but not confused thanks to the MISTY TERRAIN. Likewise, Ruby Walker’s Gallade has sustained much damage. Both Pokemon are in danger of being killed should they be attacked again.[break][break][break]

The G-MAX SMITE’s stars slam into the floor. The hole already threatens the infrastructure of B2’s floor. The floor Goro Shimizu’s Tyrantrum, marie jules, FERNANDO SILPH, and Ruby Walker are on is about to collapse (Katherine Fairburne would be able to sense this too).[break][break][break]

KATHERINE, MARIE, SILPH

A MYSTICAL FIRE from Katherine Fairburne’s Hatterene erupts from the hole she made in the previous round. The pillar of flame causes marie jules and FERNANDO SILPH to recoil, buying her more time. Thankfully, marie jules’s performance continues to slow the councilman from reaching the bottom floor.[break][break][break]

In response to the flames, FERNANDO SILPH reacts, his Tapu Fini casting SURF down the hole in B3; Katherine Fairburne and her Hatterene is struck by the coursing water as B3 floods some.[break][break][break]

B3’s TOXIC, MUDDY FLOOR is diluted with water. The tree’s roots seem to pulse as it sucks up nutrients from the polluted soil. [break][break][break]

THE TREE GROWS

The tree grows once more. Thanks to Goro Shimizu's Haunter's CURSE, FERNANDO SILPH's SURF and Kaida Adachi's SLUDGE WAVE, the tree experiences its biggest growth yet. It's almost as if it is defending itself, but in a frantic manner. As the branches swing out from the tree, everyone on all floors must avoid being impaled or struck (your rolls and actions will affect what happens!). Pokemon are in danger too.[break][break][break]

Two of the trees roots are exposed. One is on the eastern side (Katherine Fairburne) and the one is on western side (priam conrad, Eva Dumont, dominic sinclair, marcel maeda, Goro Shimizu, @zacharias, Kazimir Wynter, beckett carlson). Both ooze an odd blue sap.[break][break][break]

Kaida narrowed her eyes, peering down the hatch. Had the sludge hit enough enemies to make a difference? Had it hurt a human? She knew well enough that not many were like her, plenty had Pokemon that relied on their trainer's orders. If they were still fine, then she needed to finish the job, hunt them and make the pin. "Mmm? Hema?" Her attention caught on the Seviper as it moved to stick her head down the hatch, and hissed and drew back in a flash of pink. The serpent's eyes flashed, a damned fairy trick! At least psychics were handsomely intelligent, fairies were just a nuisance! [break][break]

Sticking her hand down, Kaida understood quickly, her Pokemon were trapped here for some time. A...song, if it could be called that, was also swirling in her ears, but faded quickly enough...it sounded bad, and her Pokemon's eyes turning glassy for a few seconds didn't help her confidence. Without thinking, she released another of her pack, Hel, the Grovyle, who looked about curiously and chirped good-naturedly. Where was the hunt? [break][break]

Maybe in the drizzle, in the calm, she forgot much could still happen. [break][break]

Kaida only had a brief moment to hear bark creaking before branches shot about, crashing and stabbing at their surroundings. She opened her mouth, not even sure how she could ensure their safety, and her Pokemon acted first. Whatever words were on her tongue cut off in a scream as Hema rammed into Kaida, flinging her into the hatch. Flailing frantically, Kaida caught herself on the hatch, clinging frantically as she felt her arm throb horribly. It was bleeding again, hit on the wall before she caught herself. [break][break]

Three faces looked down the hatch briefly, the scaly faces of Hema, Hel, and Freya seeming genuinely gleeful before they disappeared, pursued by branches. And the absolutely useless human could only cling in safety, so small and unable to help in any way. A frantic scream shook free from her, her own small frame seemingly impossibly loud as she yelled at the one thing she was here to try and protect, a being that was now going to kill the only connections she ever had. "Your enemies are down here! Down! Not them!" She shrieked and howled hopelessly, banging her feet into the walls as if it would do anything. Anything, if it meant their lives would be scared. Something cracked in her chest, and her voice died, unused to being raised in any manner. Still, desperately waiting for the branches to stop attacking, waiting for her Pokemon to show themselves miraculously, her thoughts kept racing, directed as if her thoughts meant anything to this thing. Down there, the ones killing you are down. What the hell was she doing? Talking to a tree, maybe she was just simple. [break][break]

Up above, her Pokemon were now pressed for survival. Freya breathed out a great Flamethrower, a wide, sweeping wall of fire she hoped would dissuade the branches until they retreated to safety. What safety? Why, those two with those protecting Pokemon! (Cillian Quinn and Emma Wolfe ) All three Pokemon retreated away from the tree and towards the protection as the Flamethrower raged. At the back, Hema unleashed Night Slash at any branch that came near, hoping to keep the trio from being stabbed in the back. Hel simply ran and, once reaching the two humans, a membranous barrier extended from her being. Quick Guard. Perhaps not as useful as Protect, but anything to bolster defenses was probably good, she thought. [break][break]

Hema and Freya tried to fling themselves near the humans too, trying to take advantage of the defenses, chirping and rumbling in what seemed like...greeting? For stranger's, they seemed awfully friendly. It was just like Kaida, whoever they were working with were currently partners, was all.

illeana reyes’s Arctozolt PROTECTS against the initial barrage of branches— but she is struck to the floor as more of them scrape across B3. Her Golett attempts to block against the branches— but is slapped away by a swinging limb. The Ghost-type Pokemon suffers incredible hurt, for its clay body is chipped. She looks for sap as she staves off the SMOG wanting to poison her body.[break][break][break]

The thick branches strike across beckett carlson’s body as well. His Aron’s ROCK TOMB lessens the blow somewhat, and the rocks chip into dust upon impact. However, the Aron is slammed into a wall, the branches having injured the poor Steel-type grievously. He too, saves against the poison gas. His Mawile rushes for the sap, reaching illeana reyes who crawls to a glowing puddle of blue. From the floor, she can see faint hues of green too, as if the gas has toyed with her vision. beckett carlson’s Mawile and illeana reyes manage to reach the sap. Rookidee overwatches the operation— and chirps wildly as a terrible threat is thrown toward the tree… and themselves.[break][break][break]

KAIDA, GAVIN, WOLFE

Kaida Adachi manages to save herself from the tree’s retaliation. She is able to tuck her body enough so the branches swing underneath and above her while her pokemon run behind Cillian Quinn and Emma Wolfe’s COMBINED PROTECTION. Her Grovyle attempts to protect against anything else with a QUICK GUARD. As the branches fly across, Emma Wolfe’s Crobat delivers sizzling POISONS against them. These new limbs seem weaker against attacks and erode despite their density.[break][break][break]

SELENA, ALEXEI, KATHERINE

Unlike FERNANDO SILPH, who uses his Aegislash defensively, Selena Desmarais practices the adage: “offense is the best defense.” Her Pokemon cuts through the branches while her Delphox meditates. Her ally, a cross-dressed Alexei Ivanov atop a Pelipper, manages to avoid the surge of plant growth.[break][break][break]

Detecting the danger, Katherine Fairburne’s Hatterene casts a potent PSYCHIC toward Tapu Fini’s SURF attack. Able to weave herself out of harm’s way, Katherine Fairburne’s Morpeko destroys the weakened branch successfully. Its CRUNCH severs it. The tree seems to twist and turn in pain at its amputation. The Hatterene’s PSYCHIC is broken, for the Tapu Fini’s SURF is emboldened in strength by FERNANDO SILPH’s AVATAR MISTY TERRAIN. Her Mega Evolved Gallade’s cape billows as it TELEPORTS her party to the other side after the branches complete their attack.[break][break][break]

RUBY, SILPH, MARIE

As the guards thank Ruby Walker, they attempt to call upon their Mr. Mimes. They seem injured, and while they attempt to regain composure, the girl’s Gardevoir FUTURE SIGHTS. In that vision, she sees the floor’s imminent collapse; there is no safe place to stand. However, the Gardevoir also realizes the whole building will collapse soon. While her Mega Evolved Hatterene PSYCHO CUTS cuts through the branches with ease, the floor groans.[break][break][break]

FERNANDO SILPH’s Tapu Fini finds that it can not use SURF anymore due to Goro Shimizu’s Mime Jr.’s special ability. The shadowfied Pokemon snickers, but that laughter is drowned by the terrible collision of a Guardian Deity’s NATURE’S MADNESS. His Greninja protects marie jules with MAT BLOCK. Swiftly, the branches are obliterated— and the floor collapses. FERNANDO SILPH latches on to his Greninja, and the guards attempt to have their Mr. Mime’s PSYCHIC Ruby Walker and her Pokemon to descend safely.[break][break][break]

THE CLOWN

Rocket’s clown is knocked out by the branches and poison clouding his lungs. His Tyrantrum, bloodied but defiant of fate, throws ANCIENT POWER BOULDERS toward B2 to create an even bigger hole. In the process of doing so, the branches pierce through the weakened dinosaur. Thanks to Ruby Walker’s Gallade’s previous attack, the limbs impale the beast. The Tyrantrum roars, shaking the basement with its siren song before collapsing dead.[break][break][break]

His Haunter uses POISON GAS on B2— but FERNANDO SILPH’s MISTY TERRAIN still persists, clearing it. Goro Shimizu open mouth falls upon the sap… and it immediately wakes him up. The taste is bitter but invigorating, like an ENERGY ROOT; however, the SLUDGE WAVE from before has contaminated the substance. Goro Shimizu will find themselves incredibly nauseous and disoriented.[break][break][break]

MARCEL & KAZIMIR

marcel maeda’s Metagross continues to keep him afloat. His Sylveon’s ribbons flare as it SKILL SWAPS with Kazimir Wynter’s Mismagius, granting itself LEVITATE while the Ghost-type Pokemon receives PIXILATE.[break][break][break]

Kazimir Wynter’s Mismagius summons sharp MAGICAL LEAVES. This attack does not miss, for the leaves chase after every single Pokemon and trainer on B3. priam conrad, beckett carlson, illeana reyes, Eva Dumont, dominic sinclair, and @zacharias are cut by these curious leaves— but Kazimir Wynter can not capitalize on his attack. His Machoke is able to CROSS CHOP a few branches, but is overtaken by them. The muscular Pokemon is torn by the branches— and is near death. Thanks to the Machoke, Kazimir Wynter is able to gain some distance on his Dracovolt, but before the dragon can THUNDER SHOCK, dominic sinclair’s Bisharp UNEARTHS FROM ITS DIG. The Steel-type slams into the belly of the dragon, which hurls Kazimir Wynter off its back.[break][break][break]

DOMINIC, ZACHARIAS, EVA, PRIAM

As dominic sinclair’s Klefki uses HEAL BLOCK around the tree, its owner is picked up by @zacharias on his Noivern. Eva Dumont is struck by the branches despite her Malamar’s best efforts. She falls into the muddy floor, but under the cover of SMOG and in her supine position, she manages to release the Blacephalon. The Ultra Beast arrives dramatically, its pink and blue orbs flashing dramatic colours within the basement.[break][break][break]

priam conrad manages to weave through the branches and safely obtains a sample of sap. While his Shiinotic and Pyukumuku assault the tree, his Braviary caws, malevolent energies building from its beak. A horrifying wail announces a fiendish red beam (OBLIVION WING) that tears through the tree alongside dominic sinclair’s Houndoom’s INFERNO. and @zacharias’ Noivern’s AIR SLASH.[break][break][break]

As Ruby Walker hovers, protected by the guards and their Mr. Mimes, her valiant Gallade is ambushed. @zacharias’ Ariados SHADOW SNEAKS through the wall, sharp mandibles tearing out the Gallade’s throat in a fatal strike.[break][break][break]

KAZIMIR

Ever smiling, @zacharias’s Gengar hurls a SHADOW BALL at Kazimir Wynter. It strikes the Pokkenger, forcing blood from his mouth. Seriously injured, Kazimir Wynter wonders if this day will be his last, and as his vision struggles to steady on the wet floor, he sees green. However, it’s not just one. Not just two. Several Zygarde cells emerge from the earth. Having been called to this location, a beautiful green glow begins to materialize in front of him. In a protective stance before the hurt hero, a green-hued dog stands on all fours. Swiftly, it pivots, attempting to carry Kazimir Wynter away…[break][break][break]

MIND BLOWN

The Blacephalon, secured by marie jules and now commanded by Eva Dumont, throws its head toward the same location as priam conrad’s Braviary’s OBLIVION WING. The dotted head arcs through the air— then detonates (MIND BLOWN). A blinding light emerges from B3 as the explosion expands.[break][break][break]

Although the explosion is not as potent as the ones in Slateport, it is still massive. Deadly. All-consuming. Everyone who is not already fleeing must escape in some capacity to avoid serious injury— or even death. To escape or survive, you may consider sacrificing your Pokemon... absolute destruction is imminent.[break][break][break]

Furthermore, Goro Shimizu's Mime Jr.'s SURF has flooded B3, causing those who are on the ground (Eva Dumont, Kazimir Wynter, beckett carlson, illeana reyes), to be drenched. The terrain is subsequently even more treacherous to escape from![break][break][break]

The branches couldn't retract fast enough, scarlet was running down her arm, the Stealth Rock that had been acting a convenient plug now free and letting the scarlet liquid pump down her arm. She was prepared, however, and hauled herself up the moment the way was clear, looking about and-thank goodness. Her Pokemon ran towards her, alive and well, and she tilted her head at the brief helpers (Cillian Quinn and Emma Wolfe) lowering her head in a sort of thanks as she rushed to grab Freya's Pokeball. The Perish Song would hit soon, and the victims needed to be returned. As such, she tried to return the Salnazzle just as a deafening noise burst into her ears. [break][break]

So she was destined to be muted and deafened today, was that it? [break][break]

Nonetheless, the pack had one chance, and they could return no more Pokemon. They needed to move. Something flashed in movement, bursting through the floor (priam conrad ). Despite having a disadvantage to it, Hel pounced. Her Quick Attack launched her forward, up, and towards the Braviary's back in a blur of movement. There was another Pokemon there too, no matter. If it fell, Kaida could fit, right? Even if Kaida couldn't talk right this moment, her Pokemon needed no communication. A presence landed on her back, Hema, the trusted serpent wrapping herself so tight, Kaida could hold onto her even if she fell unconscious. A pink flash of the eyes, and Attract pulsed forward, towards the flying bird, if only to have him accept the extra weight. [break][break]

Both actions took only moment, a moment that dragged unbearably long as Kaida pitched forward...and jumped. If she was unable to return her Salnazzle, the Pokemon jumped alongside her too. Either way, Kaida attempted to reach for the bird, if not its back, then to cling to its feathers. She couldn't have gotten this far in life, just to die so suddenly. [break][break]

Under the incredible duress, the young Head Scientist, illeana reyes, manages to procure a sample of sap. It oozes into the vial from her mouth, and before she succumbs to fatigue, her Kirlia manages to TELEPORT her to safety. Her Golett is caught up in the explosion, its small body crumbling into ancient dusts.[break][break][break][break]

beckett carlson’s Mawile crunches the bark and the sap drips from its maw. Heroically, his injured Aron attempts to protect against the Blacephalon’s explosion. The explosion expands, and with a cry, the small Iron Armor Pokemon manages to take the brunt of its force at the expense of its own life. beckett carlson is still flung from the root— and cracks his head against a wall. His Mawile screams at its lifeless owner, sap still secure in its other mouth.[break][break][break]

SELENA, ALEXEI, KAIDA

Selena Desmarais’s Aegislash KING’S SHIELDS against the explosion. As the ball of flame reaches them, the Pokemon valiantly protects them from the flame. The sword Pokemon is successful, but succumbs to its injuries as it falls lifelessly toward the floor below. This provides enough time for Alexei Ivanov to catch Kaida Adachi and produce a FEATHER. The feather disintegrates, summoning a dramatic updraft to propel him, Selena Desmarais, and Kaida Adachi up to relative safety…[break][break][break]

PRIAM, DOMINIC, ZACHARIAS, KAIDA

During their escape, Kaida Adachi’s Grovyle and Sceptile attempt to attack priam conrad’s Braviary after the Rocket’s Pyukumuku is recalled. The lizard QUICK ATTACKS the breast of the bird— but is deterred by the sheer strength of it propelling upward with SUPERPOWER and the SPORES from priam conrad’s Shiinotic. The Grovyle retreats, covering its nostrils to keep it from falling asleep. Likewise, the Seviper’s ATTRACT is attempted— but the SPORES prevent it from charming the bird adequately.

In swift retaliation, dominic sinclair’s Houndoom uses its Z-MOVE BITEY BITE. With a roar, a pair of fiery fangs materialize near her— but they do not target Kaida Adachi’s Pokemon.[break][break][break]

They target Kaida Adachi, herself.[break][break][break]

The fangs close and dig deep into her skin. Excruciating pain and burning enter her flesh before she falls limp in Alexei Ivanov’s hand. Kaida Adachi is dead.[break][break][break]

@zacharias and dominic sinclair flee on a DOUBLE TEAMING Noivern. A SMOG begins to pool downward, obscuring vision. The Ariados zips upward on its STICKY WEB, having tasted blood. Satisfied, it is recalled. They flee the explosion successfully.[break][break][break]

KAZIMIR & DRACOVOLT

Kazimir Wynter recalls his Machoke. As the 10% Zygarde helps him on to its back, the severely injured hero calls upon his Dracovolt to attack the Blacephalon. The dragon lunges forth with a BOLT BEAK. Briefly, it electrifies the clown; however, the clown grabs the dragon by its yellow snout and tosses it into the WORMHOLE it has created. With a roar, the dragon is lost to the chaotic stream.[break][break][break]

EVA, KATHERINE

Eva Dumont’s will notice that the wormhole is unstable— but the Blacephalon seems confident in its creation. In a wise decision, Katherine Fairburne and her party join Eva Dumont to escape the conflagration. Her Hatterene staves off the edge of flames while the hole closes. They warp quickly in a dizzying swirl, but the Ultra Beast manages to carry them, transporting them to a remote location outside Littleroot.[break][break][break]

RUBY, GUARDS, MR. MIME, SILPH

Ruby Walker, the guards, and FERNANDO SILPH manage to escape. The guards recall their Galarian Mr. Mimes into their balls while Greninja allows FERNANDO SILPH to scramble to the upper floor. FUTURE SIGHT does not reveal a safe place to TELEPORT to; however, they do manage to materialize in a chaotic crowd on the first floor.[break][break][break]

The guard’s Galarian Mr. Mime falls, tumbling from branch to branch before serendipitously landing behind beckett carlson and his Mawile. With a wail, the Galarian Mr. Mime helps the lifeless man and Pokemon escape the compromised building with its PSYCHIC abilities.[break][break][break]

GAVIN, EMMA, MARIE, MARCEL

Cillian Quinn and Emma Wolfe are able to escape as well on top of the Aerodactyl. The AGILITY of the prehistoric Pokemon allows them enough speed to flee, while Emma Wolfe’s Zoroark successfully reaches her alongside her Crobat.[break][break][break]

marie jules escapes too. The tree is weakened from the poisons and root damage, and the branches wither in the Salazzle’s FLAMETHROWER and Scizor’s FURY CUTTER. On the upper floor, the Salazzle is returned while the Rocket Admin escapes on her swift Scizor. Likewise, the other Admin, marcel maeda, is able to escape too. The Metagross rushes upward, while Sylveon’s PROTECT prevents the edge of the explosion from hurting them at its last moments.[break][break][break]

KAZIMIR, GORO, ZYGARDE

Kazimir Wynter escapes on his Zygarde, but manages to find a stowaway hugging his body (Goro Shimizu). The HYPNOSIS attempts to settle on Kazimir Wynter— and the Pokkenger begins to feel drowsy. Next, the Mime Jr.’s attempt to MIMIC the wormhole fails. Such an ability is foreign, even to the shadowfied clown. The 10% Zygarde leaps from branch to branch, allowing them to escape to the upper floors. Should Goro Shimizu attempt to attack him, he will find that the green-hued dog will defend the Pokkenger at all costs.[break][break][break]

THE TREE, THE FIRST FLOOR, RESURRECTION

The tree groans and crumbles. Dramatically, it withers and cracks. Severed in two by the explosion, the ivory tree collapses and takes down floors and walls alongside with it. A glow of blue light pulses outward before the tree darkens with the hue of death.[break][break][break]

Above on the first floor (not B1) and outside, the theatre is being evacuated. The beauty contest’s contestants and judges can be seen, some helping others escape. They can hear staff shouting commands to leave the building, while others are screaming that the building is collapsing.[break][break][break]

beckett carlson and Kaida Adachi have experienced death— but they will come back to life the next morning with a brief flash of blue light. It seems as if the final blue glow from the tree of life granting them a rare second chance. However, Kaida Adachi still feels pulses of burning where she has been bitten...[break][break][break]

Kaida Adachi, Selena Desmarais

The attempt to escape fails and, in that moment, Kaida's heart leapt to her throat as she and her team started to fall. If they weren't snatched up by a hand, she had no ideas for what next to do. Two hands, one belonging to a voice she recognized (Selena Desmarais ) and the other so unknown she wondered what they even had to gain from helping (Alexei Ivanov ). Nonetheless, when those hands held her up, and she sensed a mighty wind starting to blow, she was relieved. [break][break]

Perhaps one if the last things she felt in this life. [break][break]

She barely noticed, eyes fixed on the weirdly pink and colorful saviors of hers, that there was an attack materializing straight for her. Really. What did one have to gain from killing her? Pure sadism or evil? It wasn't like she was somebody important or valuable to kill, nor was her body anything special. Everybody was trying to escape, killing would be something somebody wanted to do...and yet somebody wanted it. [break][break]

She had a moment's warning as Hema hissed, terrified of the jaws, and they closed on her. A scorching ripped the breath out of her lungs, piercing deep into her back and chest. Lungs, spine, heart! She didn't scream, eyes wide and rolling as some subconscious part of her mind concluded the injury was mortal. Yet all she could think was that, if the pain got any worse, she was going to throw up. The pain stopped, along with the woman, hanging limp. [break][break]

In the chaos of the flight, the landing, and an overwhelming blood stench already filling the air, Hema thought the attack had missed. It was only when she started to uncoil, that was when she smelled the burning, felt a red soaking not coming from her own wounds. It was in this chaos that the Seviper looked down, fixing her eyes on a wound that she only had a single conclusion to give. Fatal. Plain and simple. The flesh was just meat, Wish having no effect on something reduced so far. The girl she had become family with so long ago, died. The Seviper reared back, not even certain what to accomplish, wanting to keen just like the man, and merciful unconsciousness took her as Perish Song took its final effect. [break][break]

Hel was a simple being, when she saw the curled up, stammering man, she thought Kaida had been greviously injured, and ran up as fast as her legs could carry. Humans freaked out alot, so she would have to see how bad Kaida was. She concluded nothing on the wounds, nor the limp body, leaning her head down to feel how weak the breath was, and waited, and waited. It was only until she touched a claw to Kaida's skin, and noticed the burned flesh bled sluggishly, as if there was nothing to make it move, that the young raptor finally figured it out. She fell to her haunches, high-pitched chirps escaping her chest. Impossible. Kaida was too strong. She didn't die from one attack. She was the leader! Her crying directed to the man and woman nearby, rising in both volume and pitch. Crying for the impossible, for them to help the dead, to at least try. [break][break]

Another life was lost in the disastrous event, another tragedy among others. [break][break]

"Kaida Adachi, Ranger discovered during that Beauty Contest." The coroner didn't want to be morbid, but it was relieving the body was intact enough to easily identify. In fact, it was probably why this was even required. A burnt wound that resembles a bite, in a structural collapse? That didn't exactly scream that the death was an accident. [break][break]

Either way, pictures were taken, identification was a success, and any kin she had would soon receive the news. For foul play to be discovered, they first needed to know what killed the woman. [break][break]

It was only once he arrived that he noticed something was amok. A young man, perhaps the one who had brought in the body, was pacing and white as a ghost outside the room and, upon seeing the coroner, ran to him like a kicked Poochyena. "S-sir? There's...there's u-um...a l-l-little bit of...a-a problem..." The lad's voice could barely come out right and, more than a little concerned, the coroner listened, "The b-body appeared to...b-be b-b-breathing." [break][break]

Ah. A trivial mistake! [break][break]

The man laughed good-naturedly, smiling to ease the young man's concern. He must have seen some movement, common enough among bodies, and ran out to find somebody! "A simple spasm, you'll see more than a little in this work." He assured, wrenching his demeanor into a more professional state as he approached the door, "Will you assist me? I am beginning the autopsy, and it could be helpful to make sure I am not missing something." A little lie, to ease the white-faced lad's concerns. The body wouldn't move, and he would feel better. [break][break]

He only wished he knew what to do when he walked in, and the corpse's likeness was sitting up on the metallic table, wrapping the blanket that covered the corpse originally around herself. A look of affront pulled her lips into a frown, her hand pressed against her left side in a sort of afterthought. "What is this?" She hissed, collapsing into a coughing fit as the scratchy words left her mouth, managing to cough out, "It's cold!" [break][break]

The young man had long left the room, perhaps screaming, he wasn't paying attention...yet a sort of calmness came upon the coroner. The woman had no wounds, and was clearly living. There were all manner of Pokemon capable of pulling a prank like this. Only a fool would believe there wasn't a logical explanation to this. "The morgue, you are in a hospital, ma'am." His mind held on to the semblance of reality he knew must be correct. "What's your name, perhaps we can clear this up." Surely, surely, a body was not up and talking. [break][break]

She answered, seriously and with no way to see his papers, and reality as he knew it fell apart, "Oh, I'm Kaida Adachi."
