as kaz took the time to go back to the bar and order up some more refreshing drinks to replenish himself he felt a finger tap him on the shoulder. looking back it was one of the trainers who hosted the marowak fire dancing game and they were giving praise to kazimir for his prowess in the games. it also sounded like they were flirting with him, and the handing of a pokeball to kazimir as an extra "gift" as wellas a scrap of paper was the final nail in the coffin as they were called back to the dance troupe by their other friends, but not before leaving kazimir with a wink and a smile. "ok...that was...huh. guess that's my first summer crush in a while." the blonde giggled as he stored the paper into his pocket and examined the pokeball before releasing it. from inside out came a large lion that was still smaller than the legendary solgaleo but still quite impressive to look at.

"whoaaaaaaa...." kaz nearly jumped from his seat as he walked over and held out a hand to the lion who took a moment to sniff it before nuzzling into it. "wow...your a trusting fella ain't ya. don't worry, i think we'll be good partners then....huh. i think i'll call you....mufasa. yeah that's a nice name."

the two weren't able to really bond when the sound of lightning and thunder cracked above their heads startling both of them. kaz held onto the lion to let it know that it would be okay but when he turned to see the sight of a familiar wormhole open up above the mountains his heart sank. "oh fuck not again." just how much longer was that stupid ultra space going to cause trouble?[break][break]

What a humorous thing it is that the League chooses to trust Patrick Cavalli in the care and nurture of such an unusual creature. They could not be faulted for their trust; he'd cemented his status as a public figure, after all. His performance in the Pokeathalon could not rival that of FERNANDO SILPH or kyle lopez, but his name dominated the leader board of the target-breaking course.[break][break]

Tugging on the rubber gloves provided, he carefully accepts the tiny, mewling creature. In spite of his ordinarily stoic demeanor, he wears a goofy smile.[break][break]

"Look at you," he coos.[break][break]

Its fur is white where most of its litter are yellow, with teal accents on its paws and muzzle. He cradles it carefully, supporting the curious creature's weight. His instinct is to nuzzle it, but the sparks that discharge from the kitten every so often are enough to dissuade such an impulse.[break][break]

In spite of his evident thrill at receiving such a boon, Gavin's gaze finds the horizon not long after. Though the wormhole through which the lightning had traveled has closed, it seems a bad omen. Concern ripples through the gathered crowds and he is no exception, looking to Emma with his lips settling into a grim line. In his arms, innocent, the Zeraora mewls.

Emma drops her gentle hold on Gavin's arm as a League official hands him one of the several admittedly adorable Zeraora kittens that had fallen from the sky. It's still a blur how it had all happened, but she watches now as Gavin is handed a white one out of the bunch. He slides on a pair of gloves to handle the Pokemon and she lifts a pair for herself. Chances were she'd ask to hold it later, in private.[break][break]

In fact, she even allows a small smile to twitch upon her lips as the man coos at his new addition. She tilts her head, waiting until the League officials move on before she steps closer. The faraway look in his eye even as he turns back to look at her is unmistakable. While the bad omen that crackles against the once-perfect sky makes her skin crawl, too, Emma reacts instinctively.[break][break]

Sheathing her fingers in rubberized gloves should she accidentally touch the sparking kitten, Emma leans up to catch Gavin's chin, tugging him down to meet her in a kiss that speaks for her:[break][break]

when the thunderstorm decided to literally fizzle out in less than an hour some rangers were starting to come out to the beach carrying strange creatures with them. they looked like little yellow cats and kazimir wanted nothing more than to get right up to them and boop their little noses. so it was a bit of a surprise that a ranger official suddenly came up to him with on of them in hand asking for his name and mentioning that he's been chosen to take care of one of these strange creatures. as another ranger came up behind him to slip onto some rubber gloves before he could hold his newest little baby.

as kaz felt the little cat look up at him with big blue eyes and wriggle in his hands as little sparks danced off of his body kaz was just starry eyed with it. "aaaaaaw welcome home to your new papa little guy. don't worry your gonna fight riiiiiiiight in with-hm?" his fawning over his newest addition was interupted as another ranger came up to him, this one holding an egg. [break][break]
"um mister wynter, the league would like for you to have this egg as well and all we ask is that...you don't let that charizard of yours anywhere near any more sporting events. please."

were....were they bribing him? "um...okaaaaay? thanks for the egg i guess?" this felt so awkward and weird as he held the cat by the scruff of its neck and the egg in one hand each with the cat trying to claw and shred up his rubber glove as he just stood there, trying to process all the new boons he had just been given.[break][break]

Emma's approach catches Gavin off-guard. Throughout the day she has been reserved in her affection, perhaps due to the number of prying eyes, but she tugs at him now with undeniable certainty. With Zeraora between them, they cannot draw as close as Gavin would have liked, but he leans into the kiss with closed eyes and silent gratitude.[break][break]

So long as they had each other, they could weather any storm.[break][break]

Zeraora squirms, interrupting the peace of the moment with its fussiness, and Gavin's nose brushes Emma's as he pulls back with a startled laugh. Worry has been supplanted with warmth in his gaze, gentle as it settles upon her.

Katherine didn't drink enough to consider that the emerging ultra wormhole might have been a hallucination.

When the lightning rips out of it, she half-expects an eldritch monster to follow suit and turn this beach party into a nightmare. Fortunately - it's only lightning. Only. Somehow, life in Hoenn taught her to feel grateful for a thunderstorm in the middle of August. As long as it didn't come with trouble, it was something to be thankful for.

The unfamiliar, electric-type pokemon almost causes her to stop and question whether if this was in fact some cute ultra beast. She takes a final sip from her pachirisu float before stepping closer towards one of the pokemon and a trainer who seemed to take it under his care, Kazimir Wynter.

She isn't wearing a pair of rubber gloves, of course, since she had no intention of claiming one of these cats.

"Be careful. I think he's trying to ruin one of your gloves."

Of course Alexei wasn’t going to let Miss Isra live this down. The Cheshire cat-like grin on his face grew only wider the longer he kept looking between her and the Galarian ambassador, before his eyebrows began waggling in a very teasing manner.

“You know, you’re not going to hear the end of this from me,” he reiterated again with a chuckle, ducking out of the way before he got swat or something. He knew how… volatile her temper could get, especially when it came to being incredibly petty.

Yes, he knew how much of a mean streak she had, and it was best to clear out of the way just in case she decided to take the mickey out on him, so to speak!

Either way, he was headed back to the open bar to get himself something non-alcoholic to drink this time, when a bunch of what he knew were Rangers rushed by him. Was his friend around here, perhaps?

He didn’t have the energy to compete in any of the sports, so he ended up spending his time lounging around instead. So of course, he didn’t know about the weird new Pokémon that some other people were picking up and stuff…

he's approached and takes a glance between Katherine Fairburne and the little baby cat and sets his egg down to hold the little cat in both of his hands. "man your a handful ain't ya. crazy they're just handing these out to people...i mean they are cute aren't they." he held the cat closer to his chest and as it felt the firmness of his chest against its back it stopped trying to claw at his gloves and look up at kazimir who gave it a smile as it started to stretch itself among his front. "oh you don't like being held too long huh? down we gooooo."

as it was on its own two feet the little kitten went up to katherine and sniffed her before moving onto the pyroar and meeting noses with it as they sniffed each other and the lightning cat suddenly took a playful swipe at the lion who jumped back just in time. "wow...feisty little guy isn't he, so you got one yoruself or no? there sure are a few of them around by the looks of things." he asked genuinely curious how many of these things were being handed out like candy.[break][break]

Katherine stiffens a little when the feline reaches her, half-expecting a stray spark of lightning to touch her and make her regret approaching Kazimir and his new partner. Fortunately, the Zeraora only sniffs her before stepping away to meet the tall Pyroar.

"Oh, no. I don't think they'd get along with the rest of my team." After all, her ghosts weren't known for their hospitality. Members of the same typing family were always welcomed, but others, not so much. The gym-leader was certain that this wasn't the proper environment for a baby pokemon to be raised in.

"I think he really likes your Pyroar though."

A smile touches her lips at the sight of the small Zerazora attempting to swipe at the lion, "He's a cute one."

"i guess cats like to stick together. weird i always thought it was the opposite." seeing the two of them play with one another put a smile on kazimir's face and he walked over and knelt beside his new baby partner and gave him a pat on the head. "y'know we got a lot more friends to play with back at home. so don't go tiring yourself out now got it?" the zeraora gave a little purr as it nuzzled into kazimir's hand and electricity suddenly shot up from its body and all around his hand making him jump back a bit.

"whoa!" he was flat on his back shaking his hand and looking it over for any kind of burns or something on it, aside from a numb feeling in it it seemed perfectly fine. "wow...yeah now i know why we wear gloves." the lightning cat looked at him with a tilted head as he quickly put back on one of the rubber gloves given to him and stared at the cat for a second before giving him a rub on the head. "but that wasn't enough to do anything, looks like we got a lot of training ahead of ya. say..." he looked back up at katherine before rising back to his feet and doing the same head tilt his zeraora did as something about the woman was striking a chord in his brain. "Aren't you that new gym leader? Katherine Fairburne right? deciding to take a little good vacation before going to work taking on challengers or something?"[break][break]

Despite her warning and having expected this to happen sooner or later - Katherine still finds the image of Kazimir falling to be funny.

Her smile might encourage the young Zeraora to repeat such an action in the future— but since he didn't belong to her, she didn't have to worry about teaching him to do better. Besides, she was tipsy and certainly not in the right mood to care about the education of someone else's pokemon.

"Yeah, that's me. And I guess. I mean, this isn't really a vacation. They sort of said I have to be here." But she wasn't supposed to say that. Oops. It was the Pachirisu Float speaking for her. "..Don't tell anyone that, I don't think I am supposed to say that. I mean, this is work-related. But it isn't too bad."

Save for the multiple runs in racecourse she had to go through. That part wasn't very fun.

"Well, now that you know my name, you kind of have to give me yours."

when he was asked his name kaz rubbed the back of his head as he realized he never really hung out with anyone outside of stormy for a brief moment and was a stranger to some people here on the beach. that sort of defeated the point of a large party on the beach didn't it. "kazimir wynter, kaz for short." getting up to his feet and dusting himself off he offered a smile to the gym leader and held up a finger to his lips and gave her a wink. "don't worry 'bout that, my lips are sealed. still i didnt' think "forced" vacations were a thing the league did. boy they must be pushy huh?"

t was times like this that he was grateful that pokkenger never really followed league rules, he could probably never do any small bits of good if he did. "other than the league kinda taking glances at ya how ya settling in? can't imagine its an easy thing to do. hell have you had anyone come and challenge you right after the announcement? we've been through a few gym leaders in a short amount of time last year, trainers can get antsy." he should know from experience, he's been on the wait list for a few only for them to suddenly vanish or a few give him a badge as a consolation for making him wait so long. the road to champion was a long one and taking shortcuts never hurt but no one ever said they would sometimes be boring as all hell. "and if ya don't mind me asking...what kinda types you specialize in? i think i might have missed that part of the announcement...if there was even a part for that." he never retained a lot of info the news told him anyway.[break][break]

Was she still talking about the League or Rocket? After all, it was important for both of the organization she happened to work for that she'd be here today. Maintaining public relations was a part of her job as a gym leader and a spy between the league's official ranks. She needs more time to adjust to...

Well, this. Acting nice, being so inviting towards strangers, pretending to care about their well-being. All of that.

"Only a few. I think most trainers want to give me some time to settle in and get cozy." She imagined that those challengers hoped that this would cause her to turn soft. However, they will all have to face a harsher reality in her house of mirrors.

If anyone wanted to claim a badge from her, it'd require them to pour their blood, sweat, and tears into the task. There was no better way to prove that you're worthy, is there?

"Ghost-type. I've always been drawn to them, so I guess that made it my specialty. But, uhm, I accept untraditional challenges as well. They're a bit less popular, but I don't mind." People were eager to capitalize on the known weaknesses of the type, but she didn't hold it against them.

She held it against the League and their stupid rules, sure, but not against the challengers.

"Why are you asking? Are you planning to pay Mauville a visit soon?"
