Zac sent out Zappa the Heliolisk. The gym leader always had his favorite lizard on hand. "Ain't he just adorable?" Zac asked, scritching the scales on Zappa's neck. "He used to be a lot smaller though. But I think mum would have kept him even if he was already grown. I grew up in Lavaridge. Lots of reptiles around there. Zappa probably wandered in from the desert to grab some nicer food. Ain't that right mate?" Zappa made a loud chirp of agreement.

Meanwhile, Dugtrio was still trying to get back to the battle. The two trainers (and Zappa) shouted their encouragement, with Zac making exaggerated hand motions to try and direct his confused Pokemon. The trio dug down a few more times, first popping up near Zac. Then over in the dunes, then right underneath the healing Mantyke! "Right there mate! It's right above you!" 

Dugtrio was as surprised at the success as Zac was, and let our a exclamatory squeak! Hopefully the sudden reappearance of Dugtrio would ASTONISH Mantyke.

"Thanks mate! It's all the clean living I've been doing," Zac said, taking a can from his Rotom fridge and cracking it open. It was a Passho Plus+, and the air was filled with the sparkling scent of citrus, ozone, and cosmic radiation. He took a big sip and offered one of the drinks to Senon.

"Oh, and the sleeping. Been getting a good 10 hours in most days. What about yourself? Staying healthy?" There was a note of worry in Zac's voice. "I noticed you stepped down as Head Ranger." He had been delighted when Senon got the promotion and recognition he deserved. But then to slip away shortly after? He'd just assumed that life had gotten in the way. A few rumors had filtered through the ranger ranks, but it was best to get the news right from the source. 

Zac sent out his Tentacruel. The sea creature looked ungainly on land, as opposed to the usual majestic form it cut in the sea. A swarm of massive, writhing tentacles propped up its bulky blue frame, and the gleaming red orbs on its head reflected chunks of ruby sunlight. Its beady eyes, shadowed by its cliff-like forehead, watched Haunter. Waiting.

The BULLET PUNCHED ball shot straight for Kingler, bouncing off the defender and knocking the stunned crab to the ground.  "Whoa! Those pinchers pack a punch, don't they?" Zac exclaimed. He whistled, shaking his head in amazement as ice crackled across Banjo, freezing him solid. 

Zac retrieved the ball, and the ref signaled for him to serve. "In all those weeks I started filming the team. I wanted to put together a video diary for the end of season part. A memory thing. But I had so much fun filming and narrating that once it was finished I quit the frisbee club and joined the film club instead!"

"Okay. Rocko? You ready?" The Garchomp nodded once, and as Zac served the dragon sprung into the air, ready to spike. 

However, Nyx had other plans. The pink and fuzzy Hypno had clung to Rocko's back the moments before he leapt into the air. Hypno climbed across and around the dragon, who was struggling to fly with the extra weight. Hypno moved with shocking ease, like a spider pattering across a bathroom ceiling.

Rocko let out a cry of shock as Nyx found a foothold and kicked off the dragon, hitting the volleyball in midair with a double-handed downwards spike, sending it straight back at the Scizor that had frozen Banjo.

"I can definitely give you a hand with a garden," Zac said, beaming at the idea. He walked into the surf, letting the low waves break against his legs. "You've heard of a green thumb? Well I've got a whole green body!" he laughed. "No promises on helping keep it neat and tidy though. My place at home is a tad overgrown. I can't turn the power off. Things just keep growing."

He thought about his garden at home. The plants had spread and reclaimed his whole property. It was more a nature reserve than a house now, and any efforts Zac made to remove the plants had just made it worse. 

"Oh? You don't have your own place?" Zac asked. For some reason he had assumed that the doctor lived alone on some spacious ranch. "Who is 'everyone'?"

"No offense taken," Zac said, taking a big sip of the Passho pop. " insisted it have the hair. It was part of his sponsorship contract." He shrugged, sure that the champ had some greater plan in mind.

"Yeah! Eva's a bloody lifesaver...uh, and a great friend." He watched the Blissey produce two more eggs on demand. An impressive feat! Samu rolled one of the eggs to Kabutops, and got stuck into the other. "My home got wrecked by a herd of Rhydon and I've been living in the old Charja-Cola factory. It'll be nice to have a bed and running water again. Wait, how do you know about that?"

Precipice blades blocked the passage, forcing the spelunkers deeper into the cave. The blades throbbed with barely-contained energy, and the walls flowed with magma like Groudon's own volcanic blood.

"Kev! Help find a path," Zac said, sending out his steely serpent. Steelix rumbled forward with Gionah, its STEEL ROLLER breaking down any difficult terrain in their path.

As the magma flowed closer, Zagrea rumbled and growled deep in her throat. She was born in the earth's mantle, and was no stranger to heat or molten rock. Zagrea brought forth some of her EARTH POWER to reroute the magma, keeping it away from , , and . "Nice one, mate." Zac said, giving her a thumbs up. With his other hand he wiped his forehead, soaking up the thick layer of sweat and ash with his Lars and Articuno sweatbands. 

"Those things look like they're about to blow. Let's release some of that pressure, ay?" Zac said, sending out Busta. From a safe distance, the Clawitzer blasted one of the precipice blades with weakened WATER PULSES, chipping off chunks and releasing the growing pressure before they could explode with full power.

-Clawitzer used WATER PULSE to chip off some of the precipice blades and release the pressure

Giant Banjo filled the sky above the net. The return from the other team bounced off his shell, flying high into the air. Banjo watched the ball arc up, up and as it reached its spinning zenith, he brought down a ponderous claw. "He's pretty slow at that size," Zac said, shading his eyes to look up at his little Banjo, all grown up. 

The SUPERPOWERED claw hit sent the Darumaka flying back over the net.

Huntail slipped through Natsuki's jaws, slithering away through the water like an oiled noodle. The gator gave chase, but only for a moment, as the rattling SNARL of the Carvanah caught her attention. Natsuki's reptilian eyes narrowed, and she surged through the water, closing in on her prey before swinging an AQUA TAIL at the fanged fish. 

"Fearsome little guy, isn't he! Where did you catch him?" Zac asked, excited by the strength of the fish's roar. "For pack hunters they sure make terrifying solo predators, don't they?"

Mantine's head hurt from the SNARL. The water had shaken and shuddered with the frightful sound, and she couldn't think straight. Thankfully Natsuki came to her rescue, and she fell back, circling the fight and shooting out a stream of BULLET SEEDS at the clashing Pokemon.

The FURY ATTACKS rained down on Kingler's body and claws. The chunky crab was built for strength though, not speed, and the blows clanged and rang off his shell. 

"You're getting pummeled out there mate! Time to hit back!" Zac called, and Banjo fizzed in agreement. The crab scuttled backwards, feet scrabbling over the plastic surface of the pontoon. Out from under the assault of the Empoleon, Banjo dropped his main claw down low. His muscles clenched and tensed, and with a tremendous surge of power he swung upwards, delivering a SUPERPOWERED strike right at the body of the attacking penguin.

"Incoming!" Banjo moved underneath the ball, preparing to bat back a powerful return. Since Sneg was gone, their already mediocre defenses had been reduced to ground troops, and Kingler was struggled to knock back the Sphealball with any skill.

"Reach buddy, reach!" Zac called, and his little crab stretched up as high as he could! He claws stretched towards the sky, and just kept. On. Stretching.

His body grew, shell crackling and bending as he elongated, until the crab towered well above the volleyball net. 




Zac stared up at the massive crab. "Hell yeah mate! Now hit back the ball!" he called up. Banjo swung one titanic claw, batting the ball back towards their opponent.

"Whoa! And I thought your grip was tight before!" Zac said, tensing up his hand so that Lloyd's arm didn't cause any damage.  "Where was this strength during our match?" he joked, the laugh turning into a pained shout halfway through as the mechanical hand tightened again. 

Lloyd cut through the wires, and the hand detached. Not from Zac, but from his friend's arm. "Ha! Okay, well, it's not a traditional trophy but I'll take it! At least until I get it loose."

All the locking on and precise beams in the world won't save you if your wires are cut. And thankfully for Buzz, she had sliced through some rather important connections just microseconds before she was scheduled to meet the world's largest bug zapper.

"Holy crap! That one's packing some serious wattage!" Zac said, applauding his opponent. Buzz, still shaky, zipped back to to Zac's side and settled down on the sand, her winds beating an unsteady rhythm. "Great match, mate," Zac said, holding out a hand to shake with his opponent. 

Seeing the damage done to Magnezone, Zac pulled nutrients and life from the thick dune grass on the upper bank of their battlefield. His body glowed with green avatar energy, and he moved closer to the wounded Pokemon. "Here, let me heal it up."

Using grit, sticktoitiveness, avatar super strength, and good ol' Lavaridge muscle, Zac overcame Pryde's mechanical arm and secured the victory.

"Wahoo! Hell yeah!" he crowed, celebrating an appropriate amount before shaking hands with his opponent. "One hell of a grip you've got there! Had me worried for a second." He said, chuckling. "And yeah, I got a bit of help from the bull." Zac looked over to where Bulu was snoozing, without a care in the world.

Bulu was easily bested. The bull slept through the whole match, barely noticing. 

"Well, it's down to us," Zac said, grinning as he rolled up his sleeves. He sat down at the table, giving himself a pep talk. Metal arm vs metal mind. Man vs man who is also a machine. You've got this Zac. You can't lose. Your team is counting on you. Zac cracked open one last Charja-Cola and drank half of it. He let his avatar energy well up, strengthening his shoulders, arms, and core. Though a broken bone wasn't much of a setback these days, Zac didn't feel like snapping anything today. He put his elbow on the table. Ready. 

"Good luck mate. Now let's bloody do this thing!"
