ARRIVAL: MT. CHIMNEY


LATE AUGUST. 2:00AM. The League has called upon its forces, including The A.Q.U.A. Initiative to handle a dire threat. Atop of Mt. Chimney, Groudon rampages. Despite the rest of the region being blanketed in night, the mountain is bathed in day. An artificial sun of Groudon's creation rises above the volcano and casts its hot rays onto the peak.[break][break]

Scientists that have been dispatched to the scene have been alerted to a sudden surge of PRIMAL ENERGY emanating from the Groudon— or something close to it. Lavaridge Town has been evacuated; however, it is clear that should the volcano erupt thanks to Groudon's uncontrollable rampage, more than Lavaridge is at risk of annihilation.[break][break]

En route to Mt. Chimney, several members of The A.Q.U.A. Initiative have been recalled to Sootopolis instead, where a Rocket invasion is currently taking place.[break][break]

When you arrive, the immense heat burns against your skin. Ash and cinder fall from the sky: a grey, apocalyptic snow. From the peak, a tortured roar rumbles down the mountainside and through your lungs. The land seems to quake at the very sound. Furthermore, some of you can't shrug off the feeling that you're being watched...[break][break]

It is clear that you must scale the mountain to reach Groudon at its magmatic peak. Several options are available to you.[break][break]

POSSIBLE OPTIONS


The cable car system is available, bringing gondolas up and down the mountain on an automated track. It must be turned on with an ELECTRIC-TYPE MOVE to force-start its locked controls. Furthermore, aerial transport is another option, but marred with the dangers of hot ash and smoke. Scaling the mountain physically is possible, should trainers and their Pokemon want to brave the rugged terrain. Lastly, traversal through the mountain's cave could be tried— but is it wise to, when the titan of the lands is rampaging nearby?[break][break]

IN THIS RAID, should a round's ROLLS TOTAL 1000 AND ABOVE, a "cataclysm" will occur, dramatically altering the battlefield. A cataclysm is not a failure by any means— but will help raise the stakes and add tension to each of your character's actions.[break][break]

sweat beaded his brow already, and they had yet to even begin their real climb. it was a testament to the continent pokemon's raging power. but, he'd stood before the might of moltres in his battle with . this was nothing.

greyson broke free from the crowd and moved towards the gondola system. grimacing, he knelt to wipe the thin layer of ash and residue that had accumulated. despite repeated attempts to unlock the switch, he came away with nothing. when the evacuation order was given, whoever managed the system likely shut-it down and fled. a good practice to ensure continuity, but it made his job here difficult. seeing no other option, he summoned a pokemon.

the dragpault responded in kind, a weakened THUNDER pushing out from it's maw in a single arc. as it hopefully pulsed with new life, he turned back at the gathering. he recognized a few faces. , , and to name a few. all were incredibly reliable trainers, and all had answered the call. he smiles at that.

the roar from earlier had shaken in his spirit, but in the presence of those he could call a friend, his spirit stilled. he now looked at the mountaintop as another step on the ladder of his growth.

They’ve got an angry boy on their hands. All of their research on PRIMAL ENERGY has seemed to climax in the manifestation of Groudon rampaging atop Mt. Chimney. It threatened not only the town below, but the region as a whole. is somewhere in the fray alongside her to deal with this mess and attempt to contain the surge of energy put off by the beast. Ranger, trainers, they are all a part of the effort. isn’t too far away, thankfully.

Naturally, Eva chose to fly. It’s where she felt the most comfortable despite the heavy cloud of hot ash and smoke that looms over the mountain. She’s properly donned protective gear to shield herself from the ash and smoke. The dragon she rides is naturally resistant to the land deity’s efforts to make this an inhospitable land.

Eva has faith in her companions, but a part of her prays Groudon’s ancient brother, Rayquaza, will tame it before countless lives are put at risk. With little regard for their own, Eva and Mehira dive into the cloud, disappearing in search of an approach to the peak.

Groudon’s roar shakes the air, her heart breaks. It’s a lonely, tortured soul lashing out against the region it calls home. But why? Eva intends to find out.

Honestly, he’s more curious than concerned about Groundon. At least at first. Until it lets out a strange shriek and he can almost, almost hear something akin to agony?? Pain even? But maybe he was just imagining things. Legendary pokemon couldn’t feel pain, could they? Man, he couldn’t even fathom it. Whatever the case, his reckless feet moved him faster than his rational brain could process how bad of an idea this was. [break][break]

He’s not running up there and he certainly can’t fly like he sees other trainers doing. Sorbeccito was stil la little guy, he couldn’t fly yet. Cacio could only really make himself float, he doubted he could fly. In any case, that was only for a little bit. The trip up there was probably way longer. “Yeah, gondolas.” He said, mostly to himself as he beelined for them. There seemed to already be a trainer trying to get them to work. He waited for a moment before releasing Cacio. The Luxio hissed, already sensing the dangerous situation his trainer was about to get into. “Cacio, we need more juice, we gotta go!” he ordered. The Luxio paused, translating the order in his head before sparking up. He moved closer, before growling as he let off a Thundershock on the gondola system. “Oh, that’s good that’s good thank you!” he said, praising the pokemon with ease while waiting applying sunscreen. He was already sweating so the last layer might’ve wiped off. Out of courtesy, he offered the bottle to the Dragapult’s trainer. “Want some?”

The mission began in earnest. He'd heard rumblings of another war flaring up, but... Groudon sounded like a much bigger threat. There was something comforting about being shoulder to shoulder with 21 other people who agreed. 21 people gathered at the foothills of a mighty volcano.

Every movement of Groudon made the rock rumble, and heat lines fly up from where the land met the sky, like a desert on a hot summer's day. It felt like they were all standing on a muscle it was flexing. Giona wore his white button-up, black slacks, and boots.

A pokeball rustled in his pocket as he grew claustrophobic, darting from the group. A red beam called forth a little indigo imp, who chirped at him. Ushered him into the cave. Surely with its prismatic eyes, it'd catch whatever light could be found there and guide him.

Sableye held his finger in its entire hand like a toddler, as the two bolted for the mouth of the cave. AEPwOdkZ

it was time to begin. the sun blared heavily upon her porcelain skin, and she recalls the conversation she had about scars with . subconsciously, she would look around for the man. there were so few Rockets in this crowd. too many unknowns. she had to be careful. Siobhan spots racing for the tunnel with his partner.

the woman thinks for a split second before throwing a capsule and releasing her Dragapult. hopping onto it's broad head, she would soar into the blazing sky. she hoped to hell this was the right move to make. Groudon's energy was out of control, and it had to be stopped fast for both the Legendry's sake and their own.

A somber expression is all Derek can afford as he looks up at the false sun Groudon has created, reluctant to give much of any thought to the agony it's call portrays. His only objective is to prevent Groudon from laying waste to Hoenn, nothing more.

"Alright Dredgen, your turn." Speaking to his pokemon, the trainer releases a newly matured Garchomp that too fixates it's gaze upon the artificial light looming overhead. "We're going up for a better look. Be careful of the debris, I won't be able to just shake it off like you could." Fixing a pair of goggle-like glasses to his head, Derek quickly takes his place on Dredgen's back before launching into the air.

There weren't many, if any familiar faces around. One had been trying to get the electrical systems online for the gondola, but Derek had no intentions of chancing the tin box. Not with all the superheated rocks flying about, or the rumbling of Mt. Chimney threatening to compromise whatever anchored them in place. Even so, he hoped that they would make it to the top for whatever awaited them...

outside of taking small jobs this was her first big work with the league. of course she was nervous. she was excited. she'd thrown up this morning at least four times due to the nerves. it was hot as hell out here though and she was glad that she'd brought a bunch of water. especially if other people were going to be on the mountain investigating too. dehydration would be one of the number one issues if they weren't careful.

though that wasn't accounting for the very pissed off groudon at the top of this mountain. without a flying type pokemon she would need to find a way up... and she didn't have an electric type to help get the lift going either. though maybe she could find someone to give her a ride up. she waved and in order to get their attention, rushing over to the gondolas with her large backpack and tank in tow. "can i catch a ride up with you guys?" it would be better than trying to walk up there after all.

Ruler of the lands, a fairy tale that lingers upon a faded breath. Once she'd promised to follows the trails of Groudon together and now, she's pursuing a dream alone. The further they ascend into the ashes and smoke, the uneasier she feels as she grasps tighter to her Yanmega.

How were the others fairing in their battle at Sootopolis? By now, they would be beginning their conquest of the island, wouldn't they? She's a little worried for and but more than anything, she's feeling guilt eat at her heart. Should she have warned about this? She might not have been able to give any details given her lack of access to such privileges but she could at least have tried talking him into fleeing...

The erratic buzz of wings pulls her back to reality, her eyes training in on the mountain's peak as Groudon's cry echoes through the land. Why has it awakened at such an odd moment? Does this have to do with the rocks they've been finding through the region? The so-called mini sources of Primal Energy?

shapes form through the smoke and ash and cinder, bare and unrecognizable, but he sees one that vaguely resembles a salamence. he assumes it to be , knowing she'd also be responding, and decides to follow her flight path.

When Vic had first moved to Hoenn in order to work as a ranger, he had never expected that one day he would be stepping into an active volcano in order to go tell a primal and ancient being to “chill out or you’re gonna destroy the region”. But, alas, here he was: stepping into an active volcano because Groudon really needed to chill the heck out or the whole of Hoenn was going to turn into a not-so-fun game of the floor is lava.

He looked around, and he thought he saw a few familiar faces among those who had shown up at Mt. Chimney to help, but even the ever friendly and cheerful Vic knew that this wasn’t the time or the place to be acting all happy to see his friends. He could read the room! Or, rather… read the mountain?! Damn, that sounded way more impressive!

"well that's not good," aaron says quietly as groudon's earth-rumbling roar peters out. on his shoulder, his pikachu bobs her head in agreement. the crowd begins to disperse as people jump to action, which spurs him to look around for some way to make himself useful.

a flash of light in his peripheral vision, then another. his head jerks towards the cable car where and   are trying to restart the control panel. since he lacks the poképower to scale the mountain otherwise, he makes a beeline over to them.

"hey," he greets in a rushed tone, stopping to stand beside @giselle . he gives the tiniest sup nod of acknowledgement to greyson. "got room for another? i can help power this thing up."

on cue, his pikachu jumps off his shoulder and lands on the ground, electricity crackling from her cheeks. she fires off a THUNDER WAVE in an attempt to help disengage the locking mechanism.

It was 2AM. The sun was out at 2AM. Why was the sun out at 2AM? The sun should not be out at 2AM. Hideo didn’t care if it was because Groudoun was literally roaring at the top of a mountain, about to cause a volcano to erupt; there were some times of night where it was the moon’s turn to be in the sky.

At least Hideo still had his hat and sunglasses with him. And frustrations aside, he knew he had to help get things under control before things went from bad to worse.

Though that lead to an obvious conundrum: he was all the way down here, while Groudon was roaring all the way up there. How was he to get up to Groudon? Fortunately for him, his Gardevoir was able to fill him in on his options: enter a cave, go in a gondola, or climb/fly up the mountain.

His experiences with that Type:Null did not endear him to caves, and none of his current Pokemon were able to fly him up a mountain. So that left him with one option. “Gets us on one of the Gondolas, Dancer,” Hideo said.

His Gardevoir placed her hands on Hideo’s shoulders, a bright light enveloping the two of them. In an instant, the two were gone - and now within one of the hopefully-now-functioning gondolas - though Dancer had chosen to send them to one that seemed empty at the moment.

Sam stood to quietly watch what the rest were doing. This was his go to.

He knew a great deal of the trainers there. Some took off in the air and he could recognize them as they passed. , , , , and . Though so far one in the sky he didn't recognize was a woman(). His eyes traveled back to the ground and to the gondolas.

Falling pits of death more like.

took action first in getting it to work, followed by , then a woman(@giselle) and man() he didn't recognize immediately as well. Before what appeared to be an actual child() teleported into the gondola.

The next feasible option was a cave, which he saw a young man() dart into with his sabeleye... yeah, he didn't want to enter the cave either, considering the mountain hardly looked stable and if cracks lead to lava leaks within the cave he could burn alive.

Any move was dangerous. Most of them would trigger his claustrophobia and render him useless. Because of this, he chose the most open, and safe route. He released his gardevoir, who appeared sitting atop his absol who held her weight without fuss like she was the gardevoir's noble mount.

"I'm going to use gardevoir to teleport up the trails, absol will keep an eye out for disasters as we go. The teleportation will be in small spurts, since its reach in territory she's unfamiliar with is limited to her sight, and we don't want any surprises."

The subtle announcement was made to those remaining close to him, he held out his hand to the group.

"Those who want to teleport with us, hold tight."

How had it come to this? Cardamom's family had simply intended to visit Mt. Chimney to see some of their family friends, until they heard the rumbling of the volcano and the roars of Groudon. At first, she'd wanted to stay away, but as she waited she started seeing a few familiar faces moving towards the foot of the volcano. People she knew from the tournament. If they were all trying to stop this...why shouldn't she help too? She had almost a full team, after all. She'd packed several supplies into her bag, along with a collection of various baked items from the family bakery. And plenty of water, of course. Luke'd pressed Nash's Pokeball into her hand with a nod as she set out to join the rest, ruffling her hair lightly and whispering a "come back safe" into her ear.[break][break]
Now, though, it seemed the big issue was how to get up there. At least it seemed like other people had Pokemon who could power the cable car. However, a few other people had apparently had different ideas. Cardamom turned as offered up teleportation as an option, but shook her head, sending out Banana Bread and climbing onto his back. "Thanks, but I've got my own way up," she noted. "Banana Bread can fly me up there, and he can take one other person too! Although having your Absol look out for us is a good idea." She palmed Nash's Pokeball and sent the Absol out, stroking the fur on his back. "We're heading up this mountain," she murmured. "Keep an eye out for anything that might hit us, alright?" The Absol growled affectionately in agreement.[break][break]
tl;dr: Cardamom sends out Banana Bread the Tropius and Nash the Absol, prepares to ride Banana Bread up the mountain. She offers for one other person to come along with her, with Nash on alert for any potential disasters.[break][break]
