For a moment, it seemed like the flight upwards would be smooth sailing. The Moltres (a Moltres! and she was pretty sure she'd seen a Heatran going into the caves! there were so many legendaries to encounter here!) had provided them with a handy Tailwind, making their path that much faster.[break][break]
And then the mountain erupted in stone. A quick yip from Nash was what gave Banana Bread enough time to bank to the side and avoid a stone pillar that would have skewered them otherwise, but she could already see more stone spikes breaking through. And those glowing shards and veins definitely didn't signal anything good. Nash's attention was already focused on trying to predict which of those would be the most immediate threat, but there was still the ever-present danger of smoke and ash. Cardamom reached into her backpack to grab a towel-there was no time to properly moisten it, but she wrapped it around her face anyways, before directing Banana Bread to glide forwards.[break][break]
"We need to deal with that ash. Blow it away!" she called. The Tropius started flapping his wings harder, calling up a swirling Whirlwind that would hopefully catch much of the ash and embers before they could hit the flying group. He made sure, of course, to angle it so that he wouldn't end up blowing it at any other member of the party.[break][break]
tl;dr: Nash continues watching out for exploding rocks, Banana Bread uses Whirlwind to try and blow away some of the smoke and embers! Cardamom puts on an improvised face mask.[break][break]

As the group scattered which way they wished, Sam took the hands offered. He didn't know either of them, but that didn't stop him. If they wished to tag along his way, then so be it.

's offer to take around the north side and make sure they weren't flanked had Sam relieved and he showed as much with a smile, reflecting his gratitude. Somebody call HNN, Sam's smiling, calm down Sam.

With the group settled his gardevoir used her TELEPORT, but catastrophe struck as they teleported. His absol's DETECT saved him. She was able to predict where the spikes would hit, and gardevoir's TELEPATHY helped catch on. She moved off of the absol enough to allow absol the opportunity to grip Sam and pull him away from the jutting stone.

His eyes widened and he was pulled and his heart rate increased exponentially.

Looking to his absol, his gratitude reflected in yet another smile, he looked around to the others, @jess and .

TL;DR
GARDEVOIR used TELEPORT to get up the mountain a bit.
ABSOL used DETECT to sense the spikes of doom and got Sam out of the way.
GARDEVOIR's TELEPATHY ability allowed her to know the locations of the spikes through ABSOL's DETECT.

The tailwind from was helpful as it allowed Draco to move easier through the air, and Amor looked on as the woman riding the Moltres breezed past them. Of course he was in a hurry, but he also understood that if he rushed in without knowing exactly what was going to happen, then it would spell doom for him, and those he cared about. In fact he had no clue if anyone he actually cared about was present among the group, though he suspected that was somewhere. Just a nagging feeling he had in the back of his head almost like a sacred latin chant. Shaking it off he focused, and let those who were to eager be the test subjects for him, and soon enough the heat surged to disproportionate levels, and that is when he hears the roar.

It was frightening, and he gripped Draco tighter to keep himself from being shaken, the lava like lances sprouted from the ground threatening to impale everyone that got near them. Though he did catch the glint of shards of red within the pillars of volcanic rock, but he didn't have much time to contemplate what they meant, or what he wanted to do. Instead Draco wasted no time kicking into gear, and he used Extreme Speed to attempt to dodge everything that was coming at them. If anything did manage to hit him, his thick hide, compliments of Multiscale would negate the damage further. There was nothing that this dragon wasn't prepared to handle, and do to keep his trainer safe. Hopefully using the Tailwind of the Moltres combined with his Extreme Speed would give him the boost needed to avoid them.

"Draco...Our target is the sun...Get us close to it!" He ordered his Pokemon, the more he thought about it that artificial sun might work similarly to the move Sunny Day boosting Groudon's strength. He couldn't have that, they would need every advantage possible. So his target was to git rid of that thing as soon as possible.

Battle Breakdown: Amor is heading towards the Artificial as he assumes it works similar to Sunny Day.
Draco used Extreme Speed along with the Tailwind boost in an attempt to out maneuver the Precipice Blades
If he does get hit by anything Multiscale will activate mitigating the damage via half.

the healing mist filling the cable car blunts his reaction to  the way the track trembles and all hell breaks loose. "oh man, it's blowing shit up out there!" he announces, forehead pressing against the thick glass of the window beside him as he delineates the bad news that literally anyone else could see for themselves.

he nods to @giselle and pulls his shirt up over his nose. he's all for her taking charge until she opens one of the windows and starts climbing out. "wait, where the fuck—" are you going? he stops short as she yells for her pokemon to use protect.

aaron reaches for his belt and releases his braixen, knowing they're going to need a lot of help getting to the peak of mt. chimney in one piece. "put a light screen up, quick," he urges. the fire-type's eyes begin to glow as she concentrates. outside, the air shimmers with a LIGHT SCREEN as the cable car is walled in by another layer of protection.

Ohhh, you gotta be fucking kidding my guy.

As if the ash, pumice and occasional superheated rocks polluting the air weren't enough, the mountain showed further signs of discord as Precipice Blades began gouging up from the earth. Promptly releasing a pokeball, he called upon the "Weezing!". Even so, he wasn't sure it would amount to much, if anything at all.

"Try clearing some of this up!" Ragged breaths portrayed his growing distress, as the hot air and fine particles within were not a well made match for his lungs. Whilst the poison gas pokemon pokemon used Clear Smog, Derek and his Garchomp flew in something resembling a serpentine maneuver to avoid the erupting mounds of earth.

The momentary detour would cause them to drift from the fliers crowd, aspiring to regroup once the area could be more clearly seen. Or not...


tl;dr: Derek releases Weezing to employ Clear Smog in an attempt to both improve air quality and eyesight. Using the provided Tailwind his Garchomp breaks off from the fliers crowd as it tries to avoid being struck by indiscriminate threats.

The mission began in earnest. The gathering of 21 splintered immediately. He suspected that Groudon would be a much bigger threat, and that was made VERY clear with his foray into the cave. It felt like being inside an artery. Like feeling a heart nearby. The heart rumbled and throbbed, and rippling waves of heat threatened to knock him out.

Every movement of Groudon made the rock rumble, and send spikes through the ceiling of the cave. It was unclear if the people above fared well, under these conditions. They were stalagmites hot to the touch, like the coil on a stove.

Sableye saw the gems crop up, and had to use Power Gem  to check the depth of the cave. It could see perfectly well, but this was a matter of seeing if it could hit the wall uninterrupted. A semi-liquid jet of stones, the Water Gun of rocks, tried to check the wall.

Sableye held his finger in its entire hand like a toddler, as the two made their way deeper, to try to investigate the source of the sound. bGnLYq2N

from above his kingdom, the Legendary would preach. jagged rocks split from his order, threatening them. Lich would do his best to maneuver around them. but as they went higher, the smoke and ash became too much. Siobhan would call upon her Froslass, ordering a Protect immediately from the spikes. "do your best, Lich" she encourages the Dragapult as he tries to protect and scale at once.

she raises her black shirt to make a little mask over her nose and mouth; that is all she could hope to do. compared to the others, she was woefully unprepared to ascend the mountain in such a state. but she had to. she had to see first hand the Legendary Pokémon that had more or less resulted in the death of the previous champion. she had to know what sort of power it held. eyesight is limited during this excursion as well;

the higher they get, the thicker the ash gets. Siobhan winces as the burning came next. "Hail" she commands her Froslass. the ice-ghost calls forth a small hailstorm to soothe some of the burning. her Snow Cloak activates, keeping up with Lich's maneuvering as her evasion is boosted.

"hey, you. i think so. not sure how good an idea it is to ride it, though. but, i think it's safer than flying."

he was still iffy on that, but projected confidence ⁠— the fake kind that illeana might see through, considering their friendship. the idea of hurtling down hundreds of feet trapped in a steel death-cage was haunting, to say the least.

the lot of them stepped on, greyson tearing a page from illeana's book and having his dragapult fly alongside them, opposite of the dragonite. then, all hell breaks loose.

only 's HEALING MIST keeps him calm enough to act without blunder. the comfey on his wrist, acting like a flower braclet, begins to take on a soft-pink glow, and in consort with the PROTECT and LIGHT SCREEN, summons a FLOWER SHIELD around their gondola. he coughs roughly, burying his face into his sleeve. the heat causes his eyes to water, and lungs to ache for water.

Shouldn’t have said that. Or, more like shouldn’t have thought that, because the whole thing about the region turning into a game of ‘the floor is lava’ was now dangerously close to reality. Except that it was not the floor but the sky that was lava, or… like… rocks filled with lava?! It was crazy!

One of the precipice blades passed right by him, barely being avoided in time, but instead his life flash before his eyes, Vic ended up thinking back to when had nonchalantly asked him if they didn’t have interdimensional alien attacks in Unova. Ah, so this is why he had been so casual about the whole thing, huh? This is what the Hoenn life was like.

”Pez! Don’t go near those things, it’s too dangerous! We gotta go fast!” Talking was a struggle. Even when using a bandana as a makeshift mask, every breath felt like the hot air burned his lungs. Vic found himself coughing, eyes watering despite wearing goggles, and he could do no more than hold on tight. Pez, in turn, rode the Tailwind that had been raised by Moltres, steering clear of the Hail and increasing his speed with a DRAGON DANCE. Hopefully, it would grant them a better chance at avoiding the precipice blades, although the pink-haired man was starting to almost wish he had instead chosen to go by land. Still, he trusted his Dragonite.

Then, there was a sound. A ringing, or rather, a beeping, and for a split second, Vic felt an urgent need to check his phone for new texts. But, obviously, this wasn't the time or the place!… He could do that once they were back on land!

Whatever the other boy's answer, it would pale in comparison to the mountain beginning to explode in tandem towers of hot light. Of course, the destruction was sprinting right for them. Immediately he was reminded of the ridonculous levels of power that rayquaza had displayed at Sootopolis. Was every pokemon of this caliber just irate and destructive by default?

The gondolas spring to life after enough electricity from the group of electric types and Mint gets on without a fuss. The cable car moves, though it's not as fast as those flying, but at least it's cooler. For now. That is until Giselle climbs out of the car with her pokemon. “Wait what?!” he yelped standing up from his chair before beginning to cough as ash and heat poured into the climate controlled gondola. That wasn’t safe. Cacio growled, leaning his weight into Mint’s legs and trying to keep from coughing. Mint’s panic seemed to ebb thanks to a weirdly sweet smell in the air. He was still alert though, but his heart rate wasn’t sky rocketing. He’s not about to let any more ash into the thing and, despite prior instructions, moved to the window. “Knock when you want back in!” he shouted @giselle , eyes tearing up as he caught sight of the peak and the strange blades of rock erupting and exploding from the ground. [break][break]

But the worst part, the worst part is definitely seeing the gondola in front of them suddenly struck with a hot spear. He let out a choked scream despite the barriers that were already starting to stack up around their own gondola. Ok, that's not good. He grabbed a pokeball off his belt releasing a timid little vulpix at his feet. "Gelato, time for some wor-" he was cut off as he picked up the ice fox as it began to scream before the mist calmed him down. Still Gelato shook in Mint's arms. "I've got you baby boyyy~" Mint cooed as he held him up to the open window. "Hit those spear thingies before we die. Anything will work!" He added, trying to sound calm as he pulled out his phone and tweeted something real quick. [break][break]

Gelato whimpered before crying out as the rocket held him out of the window, his back legs shaking as they tried to hook onto the edge of the window. As the fox pokemon screamed again he released a series of Ice Beams towards the ground before Mint pulled him back to safety. Hopefully they hit some of the blades before they got too close to disturb the outside force fields. "See? You're ok buddy." He said as he closed the window. He held up his phone in front of them afterwards. "Yeah, its ya boy Mint live from Hell itself on Mt. Chimney. Say hi everyone!! This place sucks and I'm currently facing my own mortality after watching another gondola crash to the earth. Anyway, Gelato…"

Before he could even take a seat, there were two sudden appearances; the first was a familiar voice shouting from outside the cart, saying that she’d keep an eye on it from the outside. It took a semi-groggy Hideo a moment to recognize that voice as ’s. “O-oh,” Hideo stuttered, his mind quickly catching up, “Ok. Just be careful out there.” He wouldn’t refuse the help, but he didn’t want her getting hurt in trying to keep him safe.

As for the next person, Hideo could feel them arrive first - namely due to what felt like leaves brushing against him. His Gardevoir was immediately on-guard, though getting between Hideo and the Trevenant was rather difficult with how little space they had. Best she could do was try to push Hideo into the side of the gondola.

It was best that revealed himself. “Andy?!” Hideo said, shocked. “Didn’t know you were here too!” He paused for a moment, realizing it hadn’t been that long since the Type:Null incident. “Hey, are you really up for-”

Before he could finish, he could hear the Groudoun act out - and his Gardevoir informed him of the incoming danger. “Ah shit,” Hideo muttered, realizing his gondola was next in line to get stabbed. His Gardevoir was just about to Teleport him out of there, but Andy acted first. Before Hideo knew it, he was standing on rock.

He had no idea where he was now, but it was better than the gondola her heard fall down.

“Yeah, we’re good,” Hideo said. “Since it’s still hot and all, I’m assuming we’re on the mountain now? We gonna have to climb all the way up there now, huh?”

“And is Ruby alright?” Had to make sure she was safe too, before going further.

even without the order, charizard's swerving in the air, dipping left, right, up, down, in attempts to avoid the PRECIPICE BLADES that strike out towards them.

a glimpse of odd red catches their attention, and after matias points, charizard lashes a claw out, attempting to snatch a RED SHARD out from one of the PRECIPICE BLADES.

as they level with , matias manages to meet her gaze right as several PRECIPICE BLADES explode.

once again, charizard's forced to evade. it summons a strong gale of HURRICANE that rushes from the side, looking to redirect the brunt of the explosions away.

they continue up, battling the intense heat.

The heat is oppressive, and the ash thick and suffocating. Eva shifts, pulling the mask tighter around her face for protection. Her personal protective equipment isn’t quite as fancy at ’s, a bit bulky, weighing down her petite form. It gets the job done though.

The boost from TAILWIND is noticeable. The doctor casts a glance behind her shoulder to see the avatar herself riding on her deity. Mehira shifts uncomfortably beneath her. The combination of Moltres and Groudon has her nervous. A gentle, reassuring touch soothes the beast. Mehira presses on.

As difficult as it is, Eva tries to peer through the smoke and ash. The whirlwind from ’s Tropius helps a bit, but Groudon’s rage is hard to match. The danger only intensifies as the thunderous crack echoes across the mountain. It’s a telling moment of silence before the earth erupts with power. Even the pokemon flying high above the mountainside aren’t safe.

Eva screams in surprise as the shiny Salamence banks right, narrowly avoiding the piercing shard of a PRECIPICE BLADE thanks for Moltres’s Tailwind. It’s too close for comfort. The shimmering red shards catch her attention, they remind her of the Unown she recently encountered. It wouldn’t surprise her. The working hypothesis is Groudon’s Primal Energy was the ultimate demise of the old champion and Piggy Smalls.

Within their group, manages to dodge the pillars with extreme speed while. Eva is always acutely aware of the lives around her, it’s her duty to protect. A flash of ’s Dragonite soars by with a boost from Dragon Dance while wraps her pokemon in a protective Hail.

Eva feels nearby. She meets his gaze and finds comfort. It’s cut short, as the blinding light of an explosion drives them apart. She grips Mehira tightly as flames scorch the underside of the dragon. Eva wastes no time releasing the Gardevoir onto the saddle behind her. Adele peers into the FUTURE particularly those of the trainers around them, she knows Eva values their wellbeing above her own. TELEPATHY connects the the group’s pokemon, warning of what’s to come.

tl;dr: Eva releases her GARDEVOIR who uses FUTURE SIGHT to peer into the future of their flock and connects them with TELEPAHTY to warn of what’s to come. Hopefully it helps them survive the initial onslaught of the cataclysm.

The path to divinity is a treacherous road. It is only by Ame's Speed Boost that they even stand a chance in this field, weaving through pillars of fire as they navigate through billowing smoke. Times like these are where she thanks her past self to remembering to wear a mask, keeping her from choking on the dust in the air.

Specks of ash kiss her skin with momentary heat, her attention barely wandering as she whistles for the Yanmega to dive a little closer to the Precipice Blade. Strangely enough, there seem to be red shards sunk into the structure, ones that inevitably draw her in with their glowing veins.

With a quick Night Slash, Ame attempts to dislodge and snatch the shard on the way past a pillar but he doesn't dare to linger for long. They ascend soon after, staying well on course with Moltres' Tailwind to guide them. And yet, some part of her feels nervous about having the phoenix here, the scar on her back burning ever so slightly at the sight.

But she has no time to fully analyse her thoughts, warnings of falling debris reaching her mind as Ame takes heed, dodging the projectiles with grace. In due time, they draw close to the group but just far enough to ensure there's space to move. Up ahead, she swears she spies a familiar figure but she isn't quite focused on them just yet. For now, their main goal is reaching the summit in one piece.
