Zac caught the falling crab with both hands. "Gotcha!" he said, brushing chunks of shattered Minior crust off the little crustacean. "I knew you could do it buddy. Are you ready to go again?" he asked, but something caught his eye.
John Sullivan leapt from the top of the lighthouse, helped to the ground by his Orbeetle. He landed and mounted his Flygon. Where is he running off to? Zac wondered, looking back to the lighthouse.
    Rayquaza scratched and tore at the top of the construction, ripping a hole in the volcanic bricks as it searched for- The Quartz! It's after the Primal Quartz! Zac realized. "Nana! Fly up there and snatch the Primal Quartz!" he shouted at his Corviknight. The bird had been floating nearby, bobbing on the waves made by the falling Minior. "Squark?"
"It should be a big chunk of shiny rock right in the, uh, light...tip? The top room? Whatever, it'll be in the light-tower-bit. Should be on a pedestal or something. Can't miss it!"
Nana took to the skies like an overweight Chevy. She circled the bay, dripping seawater and gaining altitude before she flew at the top part of the lighthouse. The Corviknight burst in through the same section Doug had exited, swooping through the room and snatched at the pedestal, her talons closing on the shimmering shard of nothing.
    Under her metal mask Nana's eyes went wide. The Primal Quartz was gone. She wheeled, and made a hasty egress. How could the rock be gone! Zac was never wrong. Had the great, green serpent already snatched it? Where was the Quartz?
She splashed down in the ocean, slapping the water angrily to show her displeasure. "Squark squark!"
"You're back empty winged? Where's the Quartz?" Zac called at his bird. Nana had already turned away, her feathers huffed up in annoyance.
    "The bloody Quartz is gone?!"

Nana the Corviknight used Thief to steal the Primal Quartz!
It failed!

Yui slurped down the healing milk, and she immediately looked better.

"There you go!" Zac said, giving her a supportive pat on the back. Around them, the milky rain was starting to curdle into generic yogurt. If anyone else wanted to partake of its healing they would need to drink up, and fast.
"I know what I'm doing Yui," Zac said, giving the young Silph a knowing smile. "Trust me:

a) I'm a Gym Leader
b) I'm currently homeless
c) I'm a redhead
d) I own a cola company

," he said, confidently.

-Zac gives Yui some life advice

04. EXCURSION: TRICK HOUSE

With a sound like an unplugged vacuum cleaner, the robots powered down. Their battered husks fell to the ground, joining the dozens that had been blasted to scrap by Lulu Flint and Kazimir Wynter 's Pokemon. The background hum of the machine faded to nothing, and the quiz teams were left in the silence of the lifeless warehouse.
"Nice one Yui!" Zac said, giving the wounded girl a thumbs up. He frowned, seeing the Ditto copy of himself standing beside her. He joined Yui at what was left of the machine. "Here, let me take a look at your foot," he said, checking her injury. "Hmmm, Nyx, can you heal Yui?"
The Hypno nodded its pink head enthusiastically, and used Metronome again.

Hypno shot of burst of fluff at Yui, covering the youth in relaxing feathers that calmed her nerves, soothed her wound, and lowered her attack 2 stages. "Bloody feathers? Again!" Zac said, and Hypno obliged.
The Pokemon drew back its hand. The shadows grew sharp around it as it prepared to attack Yui. "Wait! But this time go for the roof," Zac suggested. Hypno nodded, and swung its Night Slash at the ceiling, cutting a gaping chunk in the upper level of the Trick House.
Afternoon sunlight poured in. "Don't worry Yui," Zac said with a wink. "I've got a plan. I just needed to see the sky." Clouds rolled in, thick and milky. They smothered the sun wetly, dripping with thick, white precipitation.

Milk rain fell through the hole in the ceiling, splattering Zac and Yui. "Drink this," he said, slurping down a handful of the delicious dairy to show that it was safe and sanitary. "It'll heal your foot."

-Hypno used Feather Dance to heal Yui
-Hypno used Night Slash on ~~Yui~~ the roof
-Cut open a hole in the roof
-Zac used Moo-Moo Monsoon to summon a rain of healing milk

"Pink mist? Yeah, I remember that..." Zac said. The dual-concussions had laid a thick blanket over Zac's memory of the events. Ki's words tugged a little at the blanket, slowly revealing the shape underneath. "There was a weird haze over everything...Creams? Yeah Kev Mega Evolved too. I don't remember doing that...Why did they just fight on their own? We had a signal and everything but I never gave it..."
Ki mentioned the Pokkenger, and Zac's blood went cold. He and Kazimir Wynter had talked about the event in the days since, but hearing that Kaz had been recognized during the battle was worrying to say the least. "Yeah, that was Kaz alright," Zac said, shaking his head. He had fuzzy memories of smashing the blonde. "He's a got one hell of a set of thighs on him, you're not wrong." Zac looked for a part of Ki that he could squeeze supportively without damaging him. "You're the coolest of them, mate. I'm just happy you came out of it alive-"
Another flash of memory hit Zac like, well, like an explosion. For a second he felt the wave of heat as Kev burrowed up through the hearth. He remembered the shockwave as he was thrown from the building. He remembered regaining consciousness in the backyard, and seeing Ki's broken, unconscious form being carried away by Ezra Zeke and Lulu Flint .
"I said I'd be there to heal you if you wanted it," Zac said, as he instinctively pulled in life energy from anything nearby. Downstairs in the hospital cafeteria, salads wilted. Flowers in the adjacent room crumpled into grayscale swirls. The Nightshades on Ki's bedside table wilted.

Zac held the drips of energy inside him. He glowed, greenly, steeling himself to blast Ki back to full health. "So how are you feeling now? Want a top up?"

"Balance in what?" Zac asked, smiling at his wardmate. The redhead had never had a chance to really chat about the island legendairys, let alone their powers, or even about being being an avatar in general. "And how do you know what Tapu Fini wants?" He asked, the second question pushing itself from his mouth as soon as the first was formed.
Zac grinned at Fernando, struggling to rein in his natural and professional enthusiasm. There was something about having another avatar nearby that brought Zac's natural enthusiasm to the fore. It fed that biologist side of his personality. The side that thrived on uncovering the secrets of their world. Zac felt himself calm a little, and he let out a little breath. With it came three more questions. "Does it talk to you? I can control plants, can you control water? Have you noticed any side effects since you've bonded?" He ended the stream with a chuckle, met Fernando's eyes, and smiled. "If you don't mind me asking. It's not often that I have a chance to chat with another avatar."
