Bringing angelo vestri's bike to a stop near familiar pass, the youth gazed down into a thicket of the tough trees planted around Fallarbor's surroundings.

"Oh." He uttered at the information, glancing back to the cyclizar now on the bed. "This won't take long, then."

Who would've thought— a pokemon already capable of self-regeneration took to healing like a fish to water.

Still—

"Did ya know?" He asked as he popped open a box, revealing a bunch of vials seemingly filled with glitter. "All Cyclizar's are capable of regeneration and skin shedding. But depending on a specific chromosome, they get the ability of either high-speed regeneration or instantaneous skin-shedding. Pretty cool, huh?"

Minor of moment of trivia over, he turned back to Isaac and Vespa, casually smacking his digit against the vial as he fit it inside the syringe whilst approaching.

"Thanks man." He said to Isaac once he got the book. "Open it up to... what was it again... Uh, it's somewhere 'tween 295 and 310. Just look for the one with a schematic of a Cyclizar's body."

The book was, as the name implied, a resource on the anatomy of the pokemon found in the Paldea Region. The details on were about as extensive as one would hope, given its purpose.

"Right, hold it open, just let me check..." Doug said as he looked over the schematics presented to him. Bones, muscle, organs, nervous system... "Ah, there it is."

Casually, he reached for a box inside his case— one filled with several disposable latex gloves. With practiced finesse, he suddenly used it to tie up a knot around the lump that was the cyclizar's tail, before stuffing his mouth with a small lantern.

Bending over the bed to look over the lump, he squinted briefly before reaching with a hand to daintly touch it, feeling around for something briefly before finally bringing the needle closer.

His hand briefly glowed a magenta against the lump just as he pushed in the needle— and just like that, Vespa perhaps did not even notice the insertion.

At least until the cool feeling of something being pumped directly into blood stream hit.

With that done, Doug casually undid the choking glove— at which point:

"Ta-dah."

Well... that's that.

"Sorry Eris. Looks like our research's stalled for the day." He said with a sigh, rubbing at the back of his head as he turned off his flashlight, chucking the rest of his equipment back into his bag before turning back to the still small girl.

Crouching low, he held out his arms for Jirachi, humming.

"Aw well. Maybe we can ask Hideo for help next time." He suggested, wiggling his hands as if to tell her to pass the baby. "So... wanna go get some ice cream before we take Jirachi back home?"

Doug was quick to pipe down at maverick noah ryder's shushing, flushing slightly. The floor underneath their feet quaked, but didn't immediately give away.

He would rather they didn't test its structural integrity, though.

That wasn't the only issue either, if Elaine Highland's words were anything to go by.

"...? Well, now that you mention it." He muttered, crossing his arms over his chest, brows furrowing thoughtfully.

Admittedly, this was supposed to be a ship... but then again, it seemed as though they had long since transitioned away from the steel works of a space vessel to a more chiseled, rocky terrain akin to the innards of some ancient desert ruin.

But still...

"Oh, right!" He said, before reaching into his bag to produce... direshrooms. "These were analyzed in the lab... they increase cognitive functions and focus when consumed! Maybe these will help?"

He let his fellow explorers take one for themselves, before downing his own in one gulp.

A moment later... he felt it kick in like a shot of adrenaline, a deep, sharp breath following as his pupils dilated, and the world around him seemed to at once become much more colorful and contrasting.

Almost as soon as he did, though...

He realized they weren't standing in a room filled to the brim with treasure.

They were standing on a precariously at the edge of platform of old stone blocks, its foundation pillar already half way through crumbling as it teetered dangerously in place.

And underneath it?

Spikes. Lots and lots of spikes— and dead bodies.

"... Uh Oh."

Several other crumbling platforms stretched out before them, leading towards the other end of the room, where another hallway started...

"I don't get paid enough for this shit." He complained to the void as he found himself standing upon an empty, floating isle; just a small part of a larger archipelago hovering over a white, misty abyss.

If memory wasn't failing him, that would mean he had somehow wandered into the abyss without realizing it. A tall order for most ordinary folk, but he supposed it was within his unique capabilities to fuck up walking.

"Well, this is useless now." He huffed as he casually chucked his league issued pickaxe and hard hat into the abyss before sighing. "Man, I don't wanna report this. I'm on vacati— er, Leave."

Whatever. Bigger problem:

"... How do I get back from here?"

He looked around wearily, patting himself briefly before...

"Aw fudge." He only brought his mining team with him. No Orbeetles. How very unlike him.

What to do now...? Maybe the portal back was nearby, since he had just been dropped?

One look around the place told him that no such luck was to be found.

He did see a pale, long haired, ghostly silhouette in the distance though.

Inside the place with all the dead people...

"... Eh." He had made actual contracts with actual demons under church basements at this point. What could a normal ghost even do to him? "Hey! HEY!"

He shouted at the silhouette in the distance from his island, waving his hands in the air.

He refrained from clapping when the man suddenly performed a near perfect standing backflip, giving him a thumbs up instead.

"Don't worry, I'll give ya a proper, full examination once we're done 'ere." Wouldn't do to send Hoenn's first masked hero home with a possible concussion.

But speaking about masked men of the night...

"Yes sirree." He said, turning towards the rockets in time with Kaz. "I ain't 'boutta hang 'em up to dry just 'cause they're rockets; sorry."

He didn't know how the hero would feel about that— he had just finished having a car-crash turned fist fight with the lot of them.

"Mind helping me out?" He asked the other, popping his case back open before producing a number of syringes. "Let's lay 'em all side by side.""

"Take a closer look." He said, before a small jet of water hit the young woman in the cheek.

Water gun casually pointed at Yuina, the youth gave her a huge grin of the shit-eating variety— the worst kind.

"How about now?" He asked teasingly.

"Sir— At least pay before using the equipment."

His grin shrunk the smallest bit, taking on a more sheepish quality as he quickly turned around and placed the gun back on the counter, patting himself for his wallet.

He pointedly ignored Isaac's cut-off sentence, humming as he began to drag a clean rag over the table, erasing away the splotches of blood.

"That she is." He said simply, nodding. "Everyone's a little scary. Comes with the territory."

People in Hoenn in general seemed more willing to end a motherfucker's life than the average civilian, for one. He supposed living in an active warzone could do that to a population.

Though perhaps that wasn't what Isaac meant.

Like an action figure's limb popping out of the socket, Isaac's Cyclizar had gotten rid of its own tail, the lump of flesh falling to the floor with a distinct splat.

"I guess." He replied to the other wryly, crouching down to look over the lump formerly known Vespa's tail. "Is this one a shed skin, a regenerator, or both?"

He reached into his breast pocket, producing his notepad and beginning to write.

"I could use some data on pokemon as well, I suppose. Vespa, yes? Please, take a seat." He said, gesturing to one of the med-beds inside the tarp. "Or... lay down on it, rather?"

Whichever.

As he waited for the pokemon to do that, he fetched his case once more, popping it open before producing some prefilled syringes as well as the respective vials.

"There's several ways I can apply healing— I'll be using syringes in this case." He said, before pointing over his shoulder at a nearby, small book shelf. "See that book over there? Anatomy of Paldea? Mind fetching it for me? Thanks."

Not realizing the foolishness of his actions, Doug simply smiled as the legendary bit into the lollipop, taking the opportunity to approach once again with his mini-lantern stuffed in his mouth, a pair of thin forceps in hand.

Staring at the crystal briefly, he examined it all over, staring at its structural integrity and narrowing his eyes... before finding what he was hoping for.

"Ms. Mesprit— There's a minuscule chip on your crystal that seems structurally weak." He said simply. It looked loose; he suspected the rock probably lost minuscule particles of itself every day. "May I procure it for examination?"

"There's more sweets for you if it'll make the decision easier."

"Fair question, counterpoint: I am perfectly hinged." Doug said, not answering the other man's question at all as he picked up his now extra finger. "Just a sec."

His whole hand burned a bright magenta before the entire finger began to bloat and decompose, before seemingly beginning to dissolve. The doctor casually chucked it into one of the cans meant for disposable syringes.

"I'll get rid of it properly later." He said, before plucking his knife off the table and producing a rag to clean the blood from it, leaning back against the wooden frame as he addressed Isaac once again. "Anyway— so you've met Dr. Reyes, then!"

Good, he didn't need to explain where his powers came from, then!

"Anyway, as you saw, my body is perfectly capable of regeneration, thanks to Lele's gifts." He said, before propping up his index finger, from which a single, glimmering scale rose, hovering just an inch off the tip of his digit. "These are the source of that healing."

Casually, he held out the knife to Isaac.

"I can demonstrate on you as well, if ya want." He said, before pausing. "Uh. You can just scratch yourself. I don't think I can regenerate your fingers... yet."

He paused again.

"I could reattach them, though." With or without the powers, he almost added with a little too much pride.
