"Got it, I will find the fanciest one i possibly can!" A reassuring nod was given by Elinor, she would remember to wear the fanciest Kimono that she owned. As for the Toughness, both her and Aggron had that in spades.

With the promise of a toughness competition Andrea’s Pokemon seemed to flare into playful roughhousing.

Aggron was not inclined to join them given their limited space.

“I certainly am!” Elinor chipperly remarked, quickly gazing back at Gron. The Aggron raised its head from beneath the water and growled eagerly while giving its specie’s version of a thumbs up.

LOCATION: Lavaridge Hot Springs

“Not as far as I know. But I will look into that.” Elinor sighed. Too many unknowns for her liking.

“Anyhow, the takeaway from all of this. We need to start preparing for disaster.” Elinor allowed another sigh to escape her, the Shaymin in her arms began to make little Shaymin noises, it wanted attention.

Now here came the odd part, the part she could never get used to.

Being Lars’s superior.

“We need to make sure that Verdanturf disaster ready. I do not want Verdanturf to be an easy target, even if the entirety of Team Rocket should decide to descend on us.” Elinor declared.

“You’ve had prior experience dealing with this sort of thing, so I want you to write me a full report on what preparations we need done, extra focus on where we are lacking, alongside an estimate of what material and equipment we need.”

“I want it as fast as you possibly can, without going down on the quality of the work.” An implied ‘understood?’ hang in air while she waited for Lars.

“Hmmm maybe.”

“I didn’t think much of it, since this is really a police matter.” Elinor began.

“But there have been a string of break-ins hitting PokéCenters and breeders around the region, recently. As far as I know there hasn’t been a specific pattern. But I am not privy to the details of the police reports.” Her voice was thoughtful, contemplating what it could possibly mean. Admittedly an idea had already wormed its way into her head.

“Are you thinking Team Rocket might be up to something?”

Her focus had blinded her. Single Mindedly trying to deduce an answer had left her blind to the obvious.

Approaching disaster.

“Huh, good catch.” Elinor mumbled. By then she felt the tiny pokes of Shaymin feet at her ankle reassuring her that it was okay that she had not noticed. “Even Wailmer...” She noted before she quickly bent down and placed the Shaymin in her arms, cradling it as one might a newborn.

“A looming disaster big enough to cause this sort of reaction in the Pokemon populace.” Elinor continued. “I wonder what it could be, any suggestions?” Admittedly the list of possibilities were sure to be long and even more sure was the fact that the people of Hoenn was probably behind it.

“No idea.” Elinor replied as her gaze moved toward the commotion not too far away. From here she couldn’t quite see if any of the local Rangers had reached the place yet.

But before Elinor could run off to offer her help, she spoke. “You wouldn’t happen to be a trainer would, you? I am sure the local Rangers could use some help.”

Another bang resounded nearby, it seemed the Voltorbs weren’t all going off in one big boom, but rather one by one. Elinor had no idea why they might choose to do it that way, but maybe it was their roundabout way of running the Mauville Rangers into the ground?

LOCATION: Mauville City

“It’s as fancy as it gets.” She allowed dear cousin to guess just what that meant and how much money she had splurged out of pocket. But yes, it was one of those fancy holographic ones.

Then Lars moved her attention to an important detail she had missed in the forest of pop-up dens and food scavenging. “That’s a good catch. Any idea about what could possibly be making pokemon LEAVE the region like that?”

“I have no idea.” Elinor spoke, her eyes never strayed from the map but rather danced from pin to pin.

“Gathering food, sheltering down in new dens, migrating to safer places.” She repeated it all as if something might magically appear before her.

The more she thought about it, the more a certain logic became clearer to her. “These are all behaviors Pokemon, or people for that matter, might indulge in when they feel unsafe.” But something on this scale, when was the last time they had seen that?

“Do you remember if the Ranger reports looked similar during the Meteno Crisis?” Hoenn had been locked away from the outside world during then but if the Pokemon had displayed similar behavior then perhaps something equally dangerous was approaching.

It had been a nice quiet day in Mauville City. The sun was shining, not a single cloud to be seen. Rising temperatures as the sun came closer to midday. And everything was good. Elinor had taken a day off from work to do some shopping.

Currently she was walking down one of the more trafficked streets, shopping bag in hand as she pondered her next target. But unfortunately for her, her peace and quiet would be disturbed.

A quick crackle of electricity followed by a resounding boom announced the sudden appearance of a swarm of Pokéball looking Pokemon. They had clearly been agitated somehow and decided to make that everybody else's problem.


MISSION: VOLTORB OBSTRUCTION
LOCATION: Mauville City

Elinor was moments away from answering his first question when the second one pressed itself forward in the priority list.

“Two days ago. Figured the office was due for an upgrade.” No offense to the previous holder of it. “Anyhow, that’s not important.”

Elinor stepped toward the screen, gave it a quick tap and all the pins went into preview mode, revealing a summarized description of the Ranger reports they each represented.

“Take a look at the map and tell me what you see.”

It was all a variety of unusual Pokémon movements spread all over the region. From increased foraging tendencies to new dens and even larger herds suddenly up and disappearing from public view.

Something was coming. She didn’t know when, she didn’t know where. But the reports that she read from the first half of May told her a story.

Perhaps she had too much time on her hands to be reading reports from other Ranger Jurisdictions, but perhaps this was just what she needed to be ahead.

But stewing in her own concerns wasn't going to do her any good, and so she had called in her most trusted Ranger for a meeting.

While waiting for him to arrive she stood, clad in her Ranger Captain’s attire, in front of the large digital screen that covered one side of her Ranger’s office. A modern choice in favor of the old fashioned map of Hoenn, though it displayed the same. Digital pins had been placed in locations with noteworthy reports.

Brow furrowed in concern as she kept gazing at the map trying to find some common ground between the data given.

Luckily the pleasant smell of Shaymin flowers kept her from getting too tense. The little green Pokemon slept quietly in what was supposed to be Elinor’s very comfortable office chair.
