The Mawile was caught, she placed the Pokéball in her pocket and returned her attention to Marshall. She gave an understanding nod. “Yeah expanding your collection is a good idea.” Elinor agreed.

But a worried look did hit her when the topic of the fighting came up. “I will admit. I do not like the thought of dragging Trainees into this fight. But I would be much less worried if they’d all come as prepared as you seem intent on being.” She remembered all too well how her first encounter with real danger as a Ranger went. And she would not wish it upon anyone.

Meanwhile, a Turtonator rose from its slumber nearby. Hungry and annoyed by the sound of talking humans. It quickly charged at the group FLAIL’ing and yelling all kinds of draconic curses.

But Kommo-o annoyed from the previous attempt at a sucker punch decided to return the FLAIL with a DRAIN PUNCH square in the face. Quickly knocking out the Fire/Dragon. Kommo-o then dragged the Turtonator over to Elinor.

She knew what had to be done. And so she threw the Pokéball.

Josh suggested they picked his flying Pokémon, to begin with. Elinor gave them a glance and nodded in response to Josh’s suggestion. A short match could provide a good basis for evaluation.

“A short match sounds like a good idea.” Elinor agreed.

Elinor considered which Pokémon to send out in response. For a brief moment, she considered picking a rather basic team. But instead, she opted to test Josh’s Pokémon knowledge.

“Dinja, Vire. Your up.” The Shedinja and Electivire walked to the battle arena.

Elinor walked to the designated trainer area before turning to Josh and announcing. “I will let you have the first move!” And so both Pokémon would wait, for Josh’s Pokémon to take action.

LOCATION: EVER GRANDE CITY -> THE POKÉMON LEAGUE HQ -> ELINOR'S OFFICE

Elinor and Gardevoir fought tooth and nail trying to oppose the Goodra’s strength. But alas they were powerless to do so. Had the battle continued they would’ve surely been dragged wherever the Goodra wanted.

But by miracle or devious choice, they had yet to know, the Goodra forfeited the tug-o-war letting them both fall backward as their inertia got the better of them. Gardevoir felt the harsh sensation of ground against its smooth skin. But Elinor felt the cushioned landing of a psychic pillow above the ground, saving her from an uncomfortable landing.

The opponent revealed themselves. A person clad in green and white, but otherwise unknown even if the voice sounded vaguely familiar. She couldn’t quite place it, but that was not surprising given the number of people she spoke to on a daily basis. Though she might not know the person, Elizabeth would be greeted with eyes starring daggers at her, and a face contorted in anger.

As Elinor got onto her feet alongside Gardevoir. Goodra charged at them, POISON TAIL its weapon of choice. Before Elinor could issue the command Gardevoir held its hands at chest height, palms pointing towards each other as an orb of pink energy formed in the middle. She charged it as quickly as she could, trying to halt the Goodra in its path by firing a MOONBLAST at it.

Meanwhile, Braviary had succeeded in catching their attention. An ICY WIND howled towards him and Braviary would reply in kind. Powerful flames spewed forth from the Hisuian Braviary to melt the ice with its MYSTICAL FIRE and if proving strong enough perhaps even rain down upon those behind the attack.

DRAIN PUNCH connects. Energy seeps back into the Kommo-o as it tries to dodge the counter CRUSH CLAW.

Unfortunately it wasn't able to do so completely as it felt the claws scratch against scales before the Excadrill disappeared underground.

With the opponent gone, it quickly turned its attention towards Steelix for a moment. Seeing the Gliscor land its move to great pain for the STURDY Steelix.

Kommo-o quickly sets off through the coarse painful sandstorm intended on joining the Steelix in a pincer attack from behind. Kommo-o using ICE PUNCH and the Steelix returning the SKY UPPERCUT with an ICE FANG.

With a heavy thud did the Hisuian Braviary land upon the battle-scarred ground. Breathe heaving for air after having flown about with its trainer upon its back. The group found some protection at the edge of the entrance out of view hopefully.

“Rest now.” Elinor gently whispered as she summoned her Gardevoir to help the bird. A gentle light-green shimmering energy bathed the Hisuian Braviary. Relieving it from the pain of Thunder-singed feathers and Dreepy-infested bite marks.

While the treatment was going on, the sound of continued battle nearby clawed at her ears. Death screams and people pleading for their life, like a discordant choir rang loud to her ears. Filling her with pain and misery. Her hand trembled, only for them to clutch into fists.

Why did have to be like this? Why do my people need to suffer for the folly of a few?

Anger welled up in her as she pondered the question. But she knew she would get no answer, only justified anger. And this anger needed someone to lash out on.

Luckily that would come soon enough.

Whips lashed out at the group. Having lowered their defenses for just a moment, neither was prepared for the assault. Gardevoir was caught and dragged along the ground. Elinor’s eyes went wide. Reacting before she could think, she flung herself at the whips trying with futile effort to stand fast against the powerful drag of the whips. Come hell, high water, or pain. She would not let them take Gardevoir.

Braviary had a more proactive reaction. With powerful flaps did it take to the sky and flew towards the Goodra. But just before it was about to attack, its KEEN EYES caught the sight of spikes between the Goodra, Elinor, and Gardevoir.

It wanted to attack but knew that in doing so it might just be putting its trainer in danger. With a loud screech did it announce its location hoping to perhaps draw some ire away from its friends. A blue swirling mist formed around its wings, and with a quick beat did it send the DEFOG against the spikes hopefully removing all of them from the field.

Hours upon hours of experience dealing with people of high status had not prepared her for this. This insurmountable mountain stood before her. Autumn had placed her in checkmate, as much as she loathed to admit it.

For a moment she pondered how she could weasel out of this. Throwing Autumn out would merely give the press a field day. And she figured Autumn wasn’t about to accept another housing option provided by her, due to pride, which would put her back at option number one.

With a sigh, Elinor began. “Well, of course, I wouldn’t throw my poor helpless little sister to the streets.” Two could play at that game. Though she would have to admit. She was too tired for pretense right now.

Turning her attention to the two Pokémon on the floor, they had not moved or spoken since. Clearly hoping for mercy. “And you two, get up from the floor. I presume you’ve given her a tour and assigned her a room?”

The Porygon-Z nodded.

Elinor gave a quick nod in reply.

Now that she had assured that this wasn't a break-in, she would leave for the entrance for a short moment to take off her shoes and place them at the entrance. Giving her valuable time to compose herself. Returning to the room, Elinor’s strained face would now be clad with a friendly-but-fake smile. “Well, if you are going to stay here we will need some rules. First off, I will be holding you responsible for any destruction of property that your Pokémon does.” She looked towards the Sneasel, she had a growing suspicion that it wasn’t the only one. “Second off, while Pokémon is obviously permitted. I don't want the place overrun. So I need to know how many Pokémon you intend to be keeping here.”

Elinor’s Kommo-o accepted Treble well enough, and it seemed to return the favor as best it could before Shalin got onto its back.

Elinor gave the woman a curious glance. She couldn’t imagine it being comfortable. But perhaps she should give it a chance. She pondered it even more so when Shalin offered to teach her. “Well, if you are giving free lessons…” Elinor spoke.

Her gaze turned to the family. Pondering which one she should try and ride. Well, the only one who had the size would definitely, and ironically be the youngest of the bunch.

“Thank you. His name is Kaleo.” She said.

Kaleo suddenly looked to the side. Sniffing the air, its scale began to clang quietly. For a moment it looked to Elinor, then a loud roar emerged into the area. She gave it a nod in reply. And of it went. With powerful footfalls did the Shiny Kommo-o storm off towards a Steelix who had emerged nearby ready to cause havoc.

A short battle began once the two forces met. But alas, Kaleo was well versed in fighting experienced Steelix, given Elinor already had two. And so he came out victorious, ready for Elinor to claim her prize. Whenever they’d get there.

It seemed his punch had not been enough. Kaleo sighed.

“Dodge and Springtide storm!” Elinor commanded, hoping to gain the upper hand by using a move that surely Josh wouldn’t know unless he was familiar with Enamorus.

Kaleo didn’t even nod. A small sphere of swirling pink energy formed in his right hand. He quickly threw it at the charging DRAGON RUSH Dragonair as he tried to jump out of the way. Should the sphere hit, it would burst into a huge swirling storm of Fairy-type energies.

Meanwhile, Swampert had but one choice to make while his trainer was preoccupied. While he liked warm showers, bathing in flames was not an option. So the moment Josh spoke his command. Swampert quickly summoned the greenish field of energy that would PROTECT him from fire and all manners of damage.

A slight tch escaped from the Kommo-o as the Excadrill maneuvered away from its punch. Leaving Kommo-o to feel the coarse sand getting its rough grains everywhere.

Elinor noted the speed and decided to put her bet on Sand Rush as the ability. The preferred choice out of the three known ones it could have.

But Elinor knowing did not save Kommo-o from feeling the sharp CRUSH CLAW that ran over his chest. Luckily pain was not an unknown concept to him. With the Foe close the Kommo-o decided to return the favor in kind with another DRAIN PUNCH aimed straight for the Excadrill’s body.

The Gliscor appeared seemingly aiming for a pincer attack toward the Kommo-o. Steelix wasn’t about to let that go through. With a loud powerful slam of its tail the Steelix sent forth STONE EDGE aimed to protect the Kommo-o from the attacked direction, and perhaps even hit the Gliscor if lucky.

“I appreciate the concern,” Elinor replied as the Beedrill was retrieved to its Pokéball. Elinor was a bit let down by this. But couldn’t really do much about it.

Though Elinor could not help but look surprised when the Kommo-o was summoned wearing what she presumed was some sort of Riding gear. “Do you also ride Kommo-o?” A curious glance was sent at Shalin.

Meanwhile, the family of Kommo-o cautiously walked toward Treble. Led by Kaleo the Shiny Kommo-o. He sniffed the air around Treble not only as a greeting but to see if there was any hostility to be found.

“The one and only.” Elinor nodded, pleased that he recognized her.

Manners were not forgotten. She appreciated his quick introduction. She took his hand and gave it a firm shake, one accustomed to men who’d try to put her in submission with such simple gestures.

“I certainly am. It’s nice to get to spend some time outside the office for once.” She spoke. “How about you? What brings you to these parts?”

As the two humans conversed. Kaleo found itself enraptured by the other Kommo-o, especially as it saw how she so quickly dealt with a Carbink. Unfortunately even he could see she had already dismissed him. As unfortunate as it was. Perhaps it was better this way. He reminded himself that he did have a significant other at home.

A sigh escaped from Kaleo. So lost in thought, had he been that he almost didn’t notice the Mawile that tried to SUCKER PUNCH him. Unfortunately for it. Kaleo was battle-hardened and at the last moment used its powerful grip to catch the Mawile by its throat.

Lifting the Mawile by its throat caused great distress. But it did quiet down after Kaleo gave it a stern look. Kaleo then offered the Mawile to Elinor.

She gave the Kommo-o a nod and threw a Pokéball at the Mawile, hoping for its expedient capture.

Elinor’s eyes could not follow the sudden movements of the EXTREME SPEED using Pokémon.

Luckily The Kommo-o was not hindered by such human limitations. Josh had loudly proclaimed their intentions and so Kaleo found itself jumping in the path of one of Josh’s speedy Pokémon. For it knew as well as anyone else that the faster something moved, the harder it was to make adjustments to the trajectory. Though its intentions were to halt both, It did not go exactly as planned.

It felt its PROTECT crack beneath the force of the collision between it and the Dragonair.

The much faster Arcanine made it past the Kommo-o.

Swarmpert felt the impact of a body against body. Swampert groaned in pain as Its powerful hind legs tried to exert equal opposing force. For a moment it seemed incapable of it though it proved enough to drag lines in the very ground beneath them. But it endured the trial and halted the push.

For a moment the Earthquake was halted. But as soon as inertia stopped pushing him, his fist was sent to the ground. An EARTHQUAKE rumbled out into the Arena. Washing over all who had no means of dodging it.

Even the Kommo-o felt the pain but pushed through to attempt to land an ICE PUNCH upon its dragon opponent.
