Killian's eyes darted up at the sound of his name. "Killian." he called back, "Or are we back to surnames already?" and after all the progress they'd made in the name of science. He shrugged. Oh well, at this point, he was getting used to constantly being called Decker.

"Unlocked?" Killian questioned as he opened the door and made his way up. No one knew where he and Lex lived, not really, but even he didn't leave their door unlocked. "I know you don't have neighbors but isn't that risky?" Lulu had to have enemies. The resourceful kind who'd be able to find out where she lived.

"Actually, never mind - I don't really care." he added, meeting Lulu at the top step. Espeon meowed in greeting when they reached her. Odd, considering all that transpired between them, but Killian thought little of it. Too excited about deciphering the message to care about much else.

Deep blues eyed the coffee in Lulu's hands. "Do you have another cup? I've been up for awhile trying to figure this all out."

He holds his tongue back from saying anything more. Killian's already let more slip than he wanted to. Besides, the topic of death and the cost of power capture his attention more.

Killian sank until the water came up to his neck. Eyes closed tight; he took a second to consider his response. The answer came barreling like a freight train to the forefront of his mind.

"I don't plan on dying." No sense in arguing a view he shared. Power meant nothing if you died before you could use it. "I'm just saying that if I die in search of it. I've accepted that."

Alexandra Briarwood wouldn't share his view. She'd rather he stop, confident that all they needed was each other to handle the terrors before them.

"And what do you think I need that power for, Mars? I'm curious."

She's calmer than he expected her to be. That can either be a good or bad thing. Killian shifted against the wooden bench, hands lacing together and coming to rest on his lap.

"Nothing." he replied bluntly, "But what I expect or want doesn't matter. What do you plan to do now that you know?" Lis owed him nothing. She could take that information and run straight to the League. Ruin Killian's entire life, more than he already had.

"If you wanted to tell the League, I wouldn't stop you. I'd be hurt, but if that were your choice Lis, then I'd accept it."

Hard copies and meteorite in hand, Killian left to do what he did best - find answers. The sun raised and fell thrice before he reached out to Lulu again.

"I've figured it out. Meet me at your lighthouse tonight. I'll explain."

Killian waited for her at the foot of the tower, briefcase in hand and Espeon on his shoulder. "I'm getting closer, Loveless." he whispered to the feline.

"So close."

As far as Killian's concerned, Mars had no reason to care about whether he lived or died. Their friendship, if you could even call it that, is more business than personal—a product of circumstance - both wanted something from the other.

He chuckled.

That's how all his relationships outside of Lex were, weren't they? Give and take. Once people got what they wanted, they were gone, even him. Killian didn't care. His world ran like that for a reason. Because it was necessary to survive.

"Hmm? Oh, right." he hadn't told Mars about Deoxys yet. Killin didn't mean to at all - caught up in the moment, Deoxy's name slipped from his tongue without thinking. Maybe it was a sign that he trusted Mars more than others. More likely, Killian needed to slow down on these drinks.

"It's the name of an alien Pokemon that crashed land on Hoenn several months ago." Congrats, Mars, you're one of three people who know anything about his search. "I've been looking for it since I became an admin." desperately so.

The two men lock eyes, silence crawling over them like a dark cloud. When Mars parts it with his question, Killian's gaze turns dark, and his voice grows heavy.

"Then I die. I've already accepted that as a possibility."

Killian sighed.

"Power has a price, Mars and I'm willing to pay it - whatever it is."

Anything to keep her safe.

Killian nodded in agreement. Rocket's hurt more than anyone will ever realize. As Head of Intel, even Killian has only begun to scratch the surface of the things they've done to get where they are today. Atrocities that be war crimes if Rocket weren't the victors of Kanto. What amazes him is that despite being aware of their evil, Lis is indifferent.

Is there darkness in her, he wonders? Something vile flowing dormant in her veins, waiting to be drawn out and nurtured. Though they've only just met, and she seems a sweet girl, Killian's already seen similarities to himself. Perhaps a sinister shade runs in the family.

"I'm glad you don't hate them." he says, leaning forward. "Because I'm with Rocket, Lis." like when he told her they were related, Killian speaks so casually, as if he's not changing her world for the second time.

"I help lead them."

He nodded in agreement. "No, I suppose you won't be." Loveless would be with him always too. A permanent friend and piece of his mother left behind.

"Hmm."

Without no one around, maybe now would be the time to ask an important question. One Killian put off since he introduced himself. Especially since Rocket took over Sootopolis, the damage of which they were still working to fix.

"Hey Lis, what are your thoughts on Rocket?"

"I was there. I almost drowned, actually." and if the thought of leaving Lex alone in this world hadn't tamed his curiosity, Killian would have. Too bad she wasn't enough to solve his current problem.

He stared at his glass; a somber wind blew from the wings of a Braviary into his chest. Killian crumpled under it. Apathy once a switch easily flipped suddenly caked in rust, refusing to budge.

Was he worried about his fate?

The faintest hint of a frown threatened to curve Killian's lips. A bit of force, and he managed to keep his mouth in a line. For a man supposed to have all the answers, lately, he'd been struggling to find them.
