The door swings open after it was shut previously. It shouldn't have startled him, but there was another adult who towered over him. The wait. Was he supposed to be here too? He wasn't even at the meeting. The meeting he put little effort into throwing, to be clear. Just a mass email. Could've been a video call, just to cut down on risks.

Giona meets Raphael with a smile, and slowly backs up into the wall of the office, so as to not have his back to either of them. He looked like an overgrown child in his jorts and chains. His Zangoose sat there next to him, looking aside at Giona. It's too big to climb on him now, and slightly upset by that.

"...Giona Ferrara. I work with our smugglers and informants. Recently, I was... helping Groudon keep people away from its grudge-match with some kind of monster. As were and ."

The arena's shape caught his one word command. Could he see, or was he simply paying attention with his ears to compensate? Either way, the word Attack rang throughout the room. It was like having a word stuck in your head, in a sensory deprivation tank.

The next attack went off. Though the shadow ripping through the flash of light missed, it was the sort of thing that would've knocked out his still young Mimikyuu.

In response, the little imp lit up as Giona whistled, as if siccing a dog on someone. It responded with Shadow Sneak, a cast shadow that acted as a sucker-punch of sorts. 5cP3s5|v

The battle slowly ground to a start. The prospect of carrying on like this... Giona was close to just flat out surrendering.

"...Have you tried patches? They put the nicotine in you intravenously. They come in three different sizes." He said, thinking for a moment. The Pursuit made its mark. Sableye was clipped for 2/3 of its health right away. With Rotom on the field again, it was time to capitalize on its speed advantage by using Electro Ball against Tyrannitar. dR||XlZo

Rotom used Electro Ball against Snorlax, trying to capitalize on its speed advantage, that being the only advantage that it had.

The nearby labs buzzed with the activity of countless assistants, either setting up the room for what she had planned, or working towards some other project.

After a long period away from the sub, he had this period of... basically learning to walk again. This was aided by what looked like an overgrown ferret giving him a shoulder to lean on. The dirtbag pet of choice, for want of a sable, or raccoon. A bead of sweat trailed from his hairline down, but curiously, stopped near his cheekbone.

A knock at the door came. Following a moment's pause, Giona walked in, in a men's henley shirt and black denim shorts, with three wallet-chains hanging out the side. They seemed to go down as low as the hem of the pantleg, and made little noises as he walked, like a bell on a cat. Rather than take a chair, he folded his arms and stood with all his weight on one foot placed slightly behind him.

"...I got here as quickly as I could. I’m sure you have other projects that you have to make time for, so I’d like to start by saying thank you."

The room was cool and dry. Was. Two roaring waves of water rose, and descended, trying to clip his team. The waves thankfully didn’t hit the breaker switches, which would’ve killed everyone.

"...Rocket, huh? You have a tough battle ahead of you." He said, looking to the taller man. The other failed to make its mark, grazing Mismagius. The Mismagius fired back at Snorlax with Confuse Ray. An attempt to turn its terrifying power against it. J8HhHrsy

"That’s so kind of you. I’ve only ever interacted with the Rangers. I don’t think I’ve seen League Officers recently."

The room was briefly lit by any flashes of light from either side. The room was so quiet that Zac speaking rung out. Whether or not he used his "inside voice", they'd both hear it. Well, it was either that, or the cavernous gym itself.

"...Thanks." He said, looking to the taller man. He hadn't a clue what he was doing, truth be told. It just looked and sounded important, and got him in the door with the right people. Nonetheless, Zac's team took the stage already. One shone through the darkness, while at the same time its mere presence added humidity to the room. Taking a breath of air inside felt like doing so during a rainy day.

Giona whistled, trying to take the initiative. His Rotom picked up on this, and tried to use Confuse Ray on Spectrier, though this move would run head-first into the darkness like everything else. xdNHNtIt

Meanwhile, his Mimikyuu tried to swing first in earnest, lighting up the room in an orange flash with Burning Jealousy. A gout of flame that briefly made all in the room visible, regardless of whether or not it grazed either opponent.

"...If you're willing to go through that with your team, you've probably already met the learning objective for the gym. To demonstrate the connection between people and nature. If anything... I see Fortree as a model for the country."

The Musharna is from Giona. It is infact wild-caught, with Forewarn as an ability, and its default moves are Defense Curl, Psychic Terrain, Psybeam, and Hypnosis.

Something about his look kind of shut down her question. He felt bad. The two of them had just met, and this was the perfect opportunity to really get to know eachother. He tried to speak up again when she asked him. "Yeah. I've always lived in Mauville, up until moving. Mauville and Rustboro are in a circle around the same volcano, so I guess I didn't go that far."

She then presented him with a gift. A gift befitting the person he turned himself into, to distance himself from the person he was. From the boy who played with fire, and even got an arson charge to stick. A statue that'd likely drift towards his dresser that held dozens of black t-shirts and a handful of pairs of pants. "...This is so cute. I'm sorry that I couldn't be at the festival with you. I don't know what I can and can't promise, but I want to keep setting aside time for you."

He had to say something. "...I'll cover our meal, then."

The sun slowly crept across the sky. Slipping away as the two talked, like someone who was pulled aside as the opportunity to escape arises. Clouds overhead that once held white light now reflected the dark yellow of the burgeoning night. Among these clouds is the moon, fighting for attention with light it borrows from the sun.

Got him. Got his ass.

"Kinda tellin' on yourself, if that's what you think my job is. I didn't say anything about kids."

He smiled. Conkeldurr and Gengar traded blows, descending into a whirling cartoon ball of fists. Gengar must've been restless and itching for a fight to not just use Dream Eater and get it over with. "I tell concerned citizens that... we can pressure the League. We can heighten the contradictions in them. We can make them either get their shit together, or make them no less than the people they want to protect the public from." He said, looking aside at King.

The little bout ended in what looked like a draw, with both parties looking satisfied. Conkeldurr barked at Giona, as if asking for a chance to fight again. He obliged, throwing a pokeball at the thing. "And what do you do?"

Gengar then held its paws over its mouth and snickered, jogging back to the two. It then held out the ball for Giona, and Giona grabbed it, this time prominently displaying the ball to King.

The display above was all the more exciting because it was slightly out of reach. Pancham immediately looked to Giona and raised his little hands. A sign that any parent would recognize as a child wanting to be carried. Giona obliged, and hefted the bear cub into his arms so he could get a closer look.

Not even the fog machine could completely obscure the performers soaring overhead. In fact, their long shadows dancing as they did made for quite the show, completely capturing the attention of the little bear. It was like Cirque du Soleil by way of Plato's Cave.

"...Thanks. It means a lot to hear you say that, even after how rude I was."

The people above them danced under the stars, as the two silhouettes talked to eachother.

Giona turned his head down, and paused for a second. His eyes darted off, but even his body language made it clear he was trying to put two and two together.

"You were there at Mount Chimney, right? There were about twenty of us, and we all went our separate ways."

Giona nodded. A phone notification sound came, a snickering that sounded like any Gengar, rather than the phone default “ding”. To return to his hometown, having finally made it somewhere else. He wore a white button-up, a black tie, and black slacks, with a violet scarf spun around him to keep the sun off his shoulders.

Meeting outside the café, the street pushed people up and down at an orderly pace, like a heart moving things through arteries. A raised hand caught his attention. A familiar hand. He made a beeline towards her. His earrings jingled. A last summer breeze carried them, before the fall.

He stood beside her, careful not to block the door. "...I’ve lived here as a boy, but I’ve never been here before. Have you been here?"
